Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Gallivant Times Square garners mixed feedback, with its central location often lauded by guests for its convenience to nearby attractions. However, the hotel's service has been called out for lacking efficiency and courtesy, with several instances of disorganization and unresponsiveness noted. While rooms are generally clean, many visitors report maintenance and noise issues, including disruptive sounds from both inside and outside the hotel. Amenities and overall value are frequently criticized, as travelers cite inconsistent housekeeping and unexpected charges. The atmosphere is dampened by the noisy connected nightclub and the need for decor updates.

This place needs some SERIOUS renovations. It holds a lot of potential and it’s sad to see the owners have let it slip. I had my own personal discrepancies;however, my experience was uplifted by the staff. Leo and Aziz are a power dynamic in that hotel and aspire to carry the perfect energy the hotel needs. Leo is a very compassionate, high energy, people person. As a manager he looks from the inside looking out and the outside looking in. If there is a problem at your stay I can ensure he’s on top of it to fix it asap. Aziz is very collected and kind making the check in and check out process smooth sailing. His mannerism and kindness makes all the difference. My husband and I loved coming down from our rooms to see their faces and chat for a few! If you plan to book make sure you are reading and viewing properly as my first room was maybe the size of my body as a whole. Avoid third party sources! Side note: Balconies are inaccessible from the rooms if that’s a selling point for you similar to how it is for me! I do plan to return for the people and the absolutely amazing location: however, I hope when I do that their will be some renovations taking place. Don’t take your frustrations out on the staff and direct it to management to make a change. Thank you Leo and Aziz for a blissful stay.

Dont believe everything bad you read! Check in was seamless, staff were friendly and guided us where to go to our room, bed was slightly small so we requested to change to a twin room, this was resolved within minutes and room was lovely and clean with a fair amount of space, was on a higher floor so room was slightly warm. The hotel is slightly dated and in need of a lick of paint but this is reflected in the price. Location is 100/10 absolutely amazing and a stones throw from the main part of times square and some fantastic restaurants around the area. Room was cleaned daily and housekeeping staff were lovely. Can be noisy at night as to be expected in a city centre but earplugs solved the problem and beds were really comfy. Check out was easy enough, taxi to the airport was organised well by the staff and they offer a bag holding service so we could venture out while we waited for it. Would definitely return to this hotel, excellent value for money.

After reading multiple reviews, we were apprehensive, but I can’t fault this hotel. Yes the rooms are tired and could do with updating in places, but they were clean and beds very comfortable. Staff are friendly, location of the hotel is great. We were worried about the ‘club’ that is attached to the hotel but it didn’t disturb us at all, the streets are noisy as you would expect in the middle of NYC. Would definitely stay in this hotel again!

Booked a romantic long weekend in New York with my husband through a tour operator in uk! Did not expect to turn up at this DUMP! I am well travelled and have stayed in many different types of accommodation over the years and this hotel is horrendous. I wouldn’t even call it a hotel it’s a hostel. With most clientele school trips. Every single person I witnessed checking in during my stay either checked back out or asked for the room to be upgraded. We had no hot water for our whole trip and the air conditioning blew hot air out! The maintanance fixed it and it lasted A couple of hours! I would dread to think of the heat in the summer months as I didn’t sleep for the entire trip, the wallpaper is hanging off in rooms and hallway, carpets are hanging by a thread with huge holes everywhere. Rooms are dirty with extreme updates needed. Reception staff are unfriendly and unhelpful and completely unsurprised at any complaint! They probably have so many a day! I would avoid avoid avoid this hotel! Only positive is that it’s right on time square. Trip advisor should request more recent pictures of this dingy disgusting hostel! Absolutely no way it’s a 3* hotel it’s more like a 1*

Arrived here on the 16th Feb with my wife for three nights. Firstly we were met with a broken automatic door at the entrance with caution tape all over it and reception didn’t look much like the photos. When checking in the lady on reception wasn’t very warm at all and took my credit card details without explaining exactly what for- I assumed as a damage deposit. However I found out when I checked my bank account when I got home that they had taken money off me for tax’s etc and also for a room upgrade. This would have been fine if they had explained the details in advance. Then there was the ‘lift’ which was extremely slow and often stank of cannabis as many of the guests staying here were what I would call ‘stoners’. Next there was the room which appeared dirty and old. Not much worked in it bar the necessities like the shower etc so I can’t complain too much. Although you could hear a lot of noise throughout the night, especially from the nightclub next door that played loud music until 4.30 am but when you go to NYC you have to expect noise in my opinion so we were expecting this. Some positive points are that the cleaning/maintenance staff were very friendly and helpful. Also there was a very nice lady on reception when we were checking out(pity she wasn’t on duty the other days). Finally, we wouldn’t stay in this hotel again as it seems more like a hostel now. I would up my budget and try and get a better hotel. However my wife and I didn’t let it destroy our trip at all as the room was mainly just a place to sleep at night as we were out all day enjoying what the city had to offer!

Last week, 5th of February I checked in at The Gallivant till 12th, and I can say without any doubt, this was the worst experience I had in a hotel. For different reasons and not only one. First, when we arrived, we had no hot water, we waited like 40min for someone to come to try fix that. Couple days later, same thing. No hot water and they told us: “this is an old building, so you just need to let the water run”. What the heck?? What kind of hotel say this? Second, the room we stayed, is not shown in any hotel company, and worse, not even in your website. Third, the noise. I was in the 14th floor, and I could hear literally anything from the streets. People talking, ambulance, party’s, music, etc. Forth, people at the reception are not very nice. NEVER asked once if it’s everything fine, if we needed anything. During the check out, the lady who was working, was very unfriendly and rude. She was talking so quiet, and once again, didn't even ask if we enjoyed. Never looked at me in the eyes. Fifth, when I checked in, I payed 68$ tax, and I asked the gentleman on the reception if we were going to charged more. He said “No”. After a couple of days, I had less 52$ in my account. This was a terrible experience. 7 nights I stayed in this hotel for like 100$ a night. This building is not how you guys show in the pictures, is nothing like it. The only one good thing about all of this, was the house keeping staff. Very funny and friendly. The rest, very disappointed. What a waste of money. I work in hospitality, and I never across nothing like this. Xavier Gomes, room 1400.

The only thing about the hotel that really stands out is that it is located near Times Square. Which although is very convenient, it may not meet many peoples standards. But, if you’re looking for a low end, budget hotel, then this is the one for you! Also, most of the staff are helpful and welcoming , so there aren’t any issues with that. It’s just mainly the cleanliness that overtakes it coupled with the shoddy paint jobs in and out the rooms as well as the unfinished bits around the hotel. This was made worse by the loud noises that came all throughout the night. BRING AIRPLUGS

BEWARE! None of this hotel's photos online bear any resemblance to its actual current state. This is now more akin to a hostel, and will likely be the worst hotel experience of your life! We checked into three rooms last Xmas and all were obscenely hot, the worst of which featured an electric heater that was stuck on, whilst the windows were sealed shut so unable to open, and the smoke alarm was missing (see attached image). The thermostat read 81 degrees Fahrenheit, and we were unable to cool the room down. This was truly terrifying at 4am when the heating kicked in on full blast, whilst the hotel corridor was swarming with other guests who were shouting - clearly drunk and / or high. Smoke alarms are mandatory in hotels in the USA, and the next morning when I questioned this at reception I was told, “lots of the rooms are quite small”. We were offered a 'free upgrade', and yet that room was seemingly identical and still had no smoke alarm. None of the rooms had been cleaned properly (neither hovered nor mopped), and there were towels and toiletries missing. Bedside lights did not always work, and wall plugs were pulled out leaving exposed holes. One bedroom door was also bent so did not lock properly. It had likely been kicked in previously. The radiators made scuffling noises, or perhaps these were rats. We will never know. There was also scaffolding attached to one of the exterior walls, on which workmen were looking through the window when we arrived. We assume they were carrying out a repair to the external walls, which was a complete insult given how much we paid for the room and how much the inside of the hotel is in of renovation. Beyond just the furniture being chipped, stained, and generally dated, one of the elevators also had a floor that was damaged, which creaked substantially on entry and will clearly soon collapse. After two nights in dirty, hot, and unsafe accommodation - in addition to the fire hazard, there was copious noise in the corridors - likely people coming from the nightclub in reception - we checked out, and we will never be coming back!

What a disappointment walking into this dump for 6 nights. This was booked for me by Flight Centre in Wollongong, Australia and I’ll be throwing the book at them on my return, never would I book this for myself! This place is a dump. There is a nightclub at the base of the hotel accessed directly from the hotel lobby. The lobby stinks of cannabis and cigarettes and the thumping music and bass from the club will keep you awake every night until 4am. Zero security, no cards needed for main entry doors or the elevators so anyone can roll in and the main door to the street is left permanently open. Our bedroom door had clearly been kicked in at some point. The shower flooded the bathroom after every use we had to use 4 towels daily to mop up. Small roaches and flies came out the drain. The air conditioning vent was a death trap of dirt, cut into a hole in the window and boarded up. You could hear every siren and every single sound from Times Square due to the old thin glass windows. The elevator you need to wait at least 10 minutes each time for one to arrive. Ripped carpet, chipped paint, broken window blinds, no care taken. Awful.
