How to Get There
We arrived at 7AM and thought we’d ask about an early check in. YES! Plus an upgrade to a junior suite. Wow, what a start!
Room was nice (#1505). Mini bar, kitchenette, good size bathroom. Ok view, but we weren’t planning on staying in the room much.
Breakfast was fantastic.
Service is excellent!
All plus, plus and more plus!
The negatives: room AC was ok but did not get cool enough for a 95° day in NYC. So especially at night, when the temperature was still high 70s… We literally slept without blankets or sheets and were still sweating. Not the end of the world but I did bring it to management’s attention.
Also, the items in the minibar we’re not very cold either… Particularly the champagne and the beer… Maybe a little cooler than room temperature.
I hope this review does not come off the wrong way, these were really small hiccups, that in the big picture, we had a tremendous day and I highly recommend this hotel.
Would absolutely stay here again.
We stayed here because we could easily walk to Central Park, to Times Square, to a subway stop, to so many places! The breakfast was in an adjoining restaurant that would have huge line ups at night - in the morning it was just for the hotel guests. Cool! The room was big enough for a family of four, although we did not stay in the room much, obviously. One last thing: My son left a binder of Pokemon behind and we did not realize it for 9 days! But the hotel kept it long enough for us to call them when we realized the loss, they still had it and were waiting for the owners to call for it. 9 days... very impressive. I think most places would have gotten rid of it sooner, but they recognized the value and knew someone would call eventually. That is superb customer service!
Although we’ve been to NYC on several occasions, this was our first time staying at The Blakely. Knowing that we wanted a m place that was a close, walking distance to Carnegie Hall, Times Square, and Central Park, we chose The Blakely based on its location and Trip Advisor reviews. It definitely met this criteria!
It is an older, smaller hotel in terms of the actual number of rooms; smaller hallways and elevators, but size of our “deluxe” king room was surprising in a good way. Very nice and clean. We had a mini-fridge, wet-bar area with Keurig coffee maker, microwave. Nice sized closet with safe.
The bathroom was good size, but no storage area and lighting was a little dark. Assume due to building codes, the only electrical plug was in the wall opposite the vanity/sink area. Extra mirrors had been put up along with a (dimly) lighted makeup mirror on the wall with the plug - definitely workable, but somewhat cumbersome. Hair dryers provided.
Staff very friendly. The concierge was very personable and helped us book a play, a harbor cruise, and dinner reservations.
Free wi-fi. Also, continental breakfast was included - cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, pastries, English muffins, bagels, coffee and tea. This is served in the Black Tap Restaurant (adjacent to and accessible from hotel lobby). Check out their burgers and “gourmet” milkshakes for which you will see people in line waiting all times of the day and evening. You can ask the concierge to make a reservation for you
but they told us to request it at least 2 hours before you want to go. Other restaurants within walking distance.
Lastly, our room was facing 55th Street (10th floor) and it was a little loud - it is NYC! We turned the air conditioning/heat unit fan to “continuous” versus auto at night when sleeping to provide some “white noise” to block out noise, and this helped a lot. We would stay here again. Maybe ask for room on back side. Mom
This hotel is in a very good location of Manhattan, with easy access to Central Park and some great restaurants. Our hotel room was clean and comfortable, but they gave us a room smaller than the one actually booked. To make up for it, they adjusted the price accordingly. I give them credit for making it right, but would have preferred the one we actually booked.
We also ordered room service, which was very slow to arrive (1+ hour).
For the price (even with the adjustment), we were a bit disappointed.
Besides being well located in midtown, this hotel provides great value and friendly professional service. I left a piece of luggage behind and after speaking to Christian Carrera at the concierge, the whole thing was resolved and he was quick to offer to overnight the bag to me. Thanks Christian!
