How to Get There
We would absolutely stay here again. Wonderful location and very close to multiple Metro stations connecting to Uptown. It was about a 3 minute walk to Rector Street (yellow line). I’ve never stayed Downtown before and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it, I’ve always stayed Uptown- Times Square or Upper East Side. Nice hotel, updated/spacious rooms, Starbucks inside hotel, comfortable bed, quiet, and a super legit blackout shade. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again.
This was my first trip to the Downtown Marriott - I had avoided in past as it had not received the best reviews from colleagues. However, I had noticed they have undergone renovations and had read very good reviews on TA so I decided to give it a try.
I called in advance to ask for a quiet room (high floor, away from elevators, away from the West side highway). The staff were very accommodating and the room was ready early which was very nice! The staff at the hotel are all very friendly, it was much appreciated.
The room was newly renovated and a very good size (not just by New York standards either). The bed was very comfortable, the washroom was large with a very nice shower, lots of outlets and usb ports for charging, lots of towels, a good size closet with a safe.
A few small issues - the alarm clock in the room went off Sunday morning at 6am - I didn't set it. The thermostat didn't work, it was repaired quickly however but needed two trips. The room also seemed a bit damp, maybe an issue with the air conditioner.
I had asked for a quiet room, and they were very accommodating with a high floor, away from the main street, and away from the elevator. However, the room was right next to the staff elevators I believe and the housekeeping room - so those elevators were loud in terms of banging as they ran and doors slamming early Sunday morning from housekeeping going in and out (not slammed intentionally, just a big heavy door).
This was a business trip and the proximity to the office was great. They even had umbrellas which was nice as it rained a few days during the visit.
I think I will most likely return for another trip the next time I'm in town for business.
This hotel has a great location. Our room was a decent sized. The bed was very comfy. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly! They had a free breakfast buffet which was pretty good. Highly recommend this hotel.
Well appointed room on 34th floor. Good size bathroom, TV, space in general. Toiletries and linens are above average. Overall, above brand expectations. Cool location. Stupid steps between lobby and street. Attentive service.
I was forced to pay a $25 a day “destination fee” I spent over 900 nights on the Marriot-SPG hotels and never ever was forced to pay a “destination fee”
I definitely will never come again and it’s not the $25, it’s that you’re forced to pay it so the actual price of the night is not the one you see at the time you reserve. A trick to squeeze you ....
