The Lowdown

A $270 million renovation transformed this polka-dot 1960s building into a glittering clubhouse for the downtown fashion set. Orange and velvet chesterfields curve below a peep show ceiling that looks into the second-floor pool. Pieces by contemporary It-artists including Avone, LJ Lindhurst and Domingo Zapata pay homage to the hotel’s location near Chelsea’s art galleries and Meatpacking’s design and party scenes. Buttery leather campaign chairs, featherbeds and overdyed kilims add a warm counterpart to the clean lines of the 316 loft-like guest rooms, which are a riot of Jetson-inspired chrome, marble, and silver. Equally futuristic are the tech amenities, from 40-inch LED TVs that connect with your laptop or iPad to Tivoli alarm clocks to recessed speakers in the bathrooms. Some even have teak bars, so you can host your own afterparty. It’s a buzzy scene, from the DJ’d lobby to the French-accented Japanese restaurant Cherry and Côte d’Azur–inspired second-floor pool bar and its see-through bottom, on up to the rooftop PH-D club. PH-D runs a strict door policy, so even guests will have to dress the part for a spot among the A-listers sipping champagne against the panoramic skyline views.

In the Area

Head to Chelsea Market, a block from the hotel, to get picnic provisions before walking the High Line, an urban park built on an abandoned elevated railroad track. You’re also well situated to explore the galleries of Chelsea, from powerhouses like the Gagosian to the cutting-edge Zach Feuer. Score some new duds with the personal shoppers at famed boutique Jeffrey, the glam Diane von Furstenberg flagship or at such of-the-moment stores as Yigal Azrouel and Carlos Miele. Daredevils can learn to fly through the air with the greatest of ease at Trapeze School New York, which sits on a pier on the Hudson during the warmer months.

Good Service
Reviewed 1 day ago

Service was excellent. A gentleman named Daniel at front desk helped us throughout the trip, I would say if it wasn’t for him our trip wouldn’t have been the same. He knew exactly what we were looking for in terms of restaurants and hot spots. It was our first time in New York so we definitely couldn’t have managed on our own. He remembered us by our first names and always greeted us with a smile. Thanks to Daniel I would say the hotel staff nd service was above average. The hotel it’s self was good, I would encourage slippers in the hotel room next time and and body lotion. Otherwise prime location walking distance to all the best spots and lots to do in the area. Would recommend.

not what expected

Using this Hotel for a business trip in the Area, it was very much below my expectations, Rooms small and not very clean, during 4 day stay, rooms were 2 not cleaned. Hotel very noisy, even on the 7th floor, you could still here nice from nightclub, the only positive aspect was a very friendly Reception employee. but i wouldn't book this hotel at my next trip anymore

A/C not working well
TINY rooms (yes, even for NYC)
Internet horribly slow ( under 1MB)
RUDE front door security staff
Dismissive front desk staff
Ineffective and poorly trained front desk
NO PLUGS near the bed
Random charges on credit card a week after departure
Terrible customer service
*** Upside: good location

Had a great time with the family. Hotel was lovely and the staff were really helpful. Mr Scali, the Lead Concierge who helped me get a late delivery forwarded onto me in the UK deserves a special mention. Barrington Roberts on reception also helped us with a room switch on our last night which really made a great end to our stay. Recommended

Birthday celebration
Reviewed 3 days ago

My husband and I stayed here beginning of the month (Sunday night) to celebrate his birthday and had a great time. Location is perfect, walking distance to great neighborhoods and good food. We stopped in Sunday night to Mexican restaurant and enjoyed some tapas and drinks...food was fresh and tasty. Staff was courteous helpful and did everything to make our stay pleasant. We will be back with the kids (young adults) and take advantage of pool!
