Your dream vintage store come to life, from original stained glass ceilings and a 1904 tile floor to taxidermy and a photo booth. Even the staff is expertly styled with custom Chuck Ts, Levi’s skinnies, and Surface to Air tie chains. Wall murals, record players with a rotating vinyl collection (in some rooms), vintage furniture and Smeg minifridges stocked with Brooklyn Lager and beef jerky make you feel like you’re crashing at a friend’s pad. The flipside? Like most New York apartments, some of the 275 guest rooms are small. But the Ace is such a local’s hang that it’s easy to forget it’s a hotel. From April Bloomfield’s famous Breslin gastropub and seafood joint The John Dory to the buzzy lobby bar (packed with a mix of freelance creative types checking email and sipping Stumptown coffee during the day and a bespectacled, skinny jean crowd boozing at night) to the downstairs event space (home to DJ nights, movie screenings and celeb parties) to their edgy boutiques, you’ll be lucky if you ever make it back to your room.
In the Area
Most tourists know the hotel’s neighborhood because of Herald Square and Macy’s, but locals know it as Koreatown. Grab some Joo-Mool-Reok at Madangsui and then kick out some karaoke tunes by renting a private room at Gagopa. For a fine-dining splurge, head to chef Daniel Humm’s Atrium restaurant at the flawlessly styled NoMad hotel, a block away. Or stay onsite and score some new duds at the hotel’s outpost of the ultra-hip Opening Ceremony before checking out FIT’s free Museum of Fashion.
How to Get There
ok, so I am a little biased since I got a random, un-asked for upgrade which completely made my day, so a big thank-you to ACE Hotel!!
The staff at the front desk are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very eclectic and modern, so much character.
Some of the best coffee in all of NYC in the lobby in addition to a few bars/restaurants and room service. Small gym downstairs.
Great location, a few blocks from Penn Station, easy to walk everywhere.
Some of the softest and nicest towels ever.
Will most certainly stay again.
The place is beautiful and charming. The staff is friendly, thoughtful, helpful, and very good looking! The location is perfect. The rooms are well-appointed with great views. Even in a small room, one feels very special in this unique and reasonably priced get-away! The lobby is a cozy hang out and the bar staff knows how to pour. The restaurant is very good for that special occasion and the coffee bar is just perfect for the early check-out. By far, the Ace is my favorite spot for a weekend (or mid-week overnight!) stay in NY.
Booked for spontaneous NY weekend to escape being housebound in PA during a snowstorm. What a find! Kind and efficient lobby staff. Our 'small' room was very thoughtfully designed - nothing is cheap, bland or missing for comfort. Real art on the walls, luxurious textiles all around. Full size bathroom with lots of hot water/pressure, nice to have a steaming hot bath after being out in the cold. Quiet at night, loved the coffee shop downstairs in the a.m.. Easy access to uptown/ Met where we spent most of our time. Planning our next visit!
My wife and I decided to do the New Year’s in Times Square this year and we decided to stay here since they are one of the few pet friendly hotels in the area. The rooms were nice and so were the amenities. What got us most was their welcoming attitude. While parking our car our dog went into a bit of a spaz out and started barking. Despite the number of guests that called to complain (which we apologize greatly for) the shift manager addressed situation in an awesomely calm way. Needless to say our pup had no further incidents but just the way they addressed the situation kept us in awe.
We will certainly return to this hotel when in the area since the time we spent there made our New Year’s celebration a great one. Great location close to Time’s Square and many other locations. Friendly atmosphere and from the number of guests congregating in the lobby something is always going on. Overall great place to stay. Thanks guys!
I stayed at the Ace for a girls' night out and it was perfect - the view, the decor, the vibe, the food... and shout-out to the amazing Front Desk staff who was willing to help out to make it the most memorable girls' night out ever. The room was spacious, well-lit, and extremely clean (the housekeeping team deserves a big thumbs up, I'm a stickler for cleanliness, and I couldn't find a speck of dust, they are VERY thorough...) If you stay in NYC and you want a real experience, you need to stay at Ace Hotel; you'll enjoy it as part of your experience, not just as a hotel you can return to just to sleep. (Speaking of sleep, those mattresses are super comfortable!!)
