Tony uptown mainstay with sweeping Central Park views, Ritz service, and a serene spa
Uptown has its share of grand dame stays, but few claim the jaw-dropping views of this elegant aerie, rising smack dab from the middle of Central Park South. The Ritz has more the feel of a discreet residence than a hotel—there’s no sceney restaurant or bumping bar scene. Instead you’ll find sprawling rooms with oversize marble bathrooms, flatscreen TVs and DVD players and extras like packing/unpacking services (for Club level guests), 400 thread-count linens and custom Asprey toiletries. Kids are catered to with Bulgari baby bath products, cookies and milk at turndown, babysitting and toy store tours. On-site you’ll find upscale bistro Auden, which focuses on sustainable seafood, as well as the tucked away La Prairie Spa.
In the Area
Just across the street sits Central Park, with its grassy knolls, picturesque bridges and gurgling fountains. Or head south and you’ll find more than 150,000 photographs, sculptures, drawings and prints at the Museum of Modern Art, not to mention its stellar French-American restaurant, the Modern. The upscale gastronomical opportunities in this area are outstanding: Per Se, Jean-Georges and Marea are all within a couple of blocks. Afterward, take in a show at Jazz at Lincoln Center, which is located in the Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle and is home to a 15-piece big band led by Wynton Marsalis. No stay in Midtown is complete without a shopping spree along Fifth and Madison avenues—go for retail therapy at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, and Fendi, to name a few.
