Foster + Partners created a contemporary architectural landmark with this sleek, double-towered building in Sydney’s tony Darling Harbour area. The hotel is located in the smaller 33-story tower overlooking St. Andrew’s Cathedral. Public areas include the lobby’s rainfall chandelier suspended from a silver leaf ceiling, and a cantilevered 164-foot pool over the triple-height entrance. The 201 guest rooms, ranging from studio suites to two-bedroom duplexes, have restrained, modern furnishings in browns and creams with pops of sunshine yellow. Most have minimal modern white kitchens with fridges, microwaves and laundry facilities. For those who don’t want to cook (you are on vacation), breakfast is served in a mezzanine lounge.
In the Area
Central Sydney is well placed for exploring Darling Harbour, a car-free zone lined with restaurants, bars, and stores. Other attractions include the city’s Sealife Aquarium, which recreates the Great Barrier Reef, as well as the Chinese Garden of Friendship – a good stop to escape the crowds — designed by Sydney’s sister city of Guangzhou. The area also neighbors Chinatown, another good spot for restaurants and gift shopping.
How to Get There
Functional Serviced Accommodation in a Decent Location. The accommodation was very spacious and had all the facilities we needed. Location was a couple of blocks away from Darling Harbour, very near Chinatown and just 2 stops on the tube from Circular Quay. Would happily stay here again.
Mentioned in notes at booking that we were celebrating our anniversary. Upon arrival we were given a free upgrade to the penthouse suite and a bottle of sparkling wine, so we could t be happier. Thanks!
We’ve stayed with Fraser suites previously and had an amazing experience and so when it came time for my partners 40th we booked again. The staff were incredible, welcoming and so accommodating! They even delivered up a bottle of champagne to help us celebrate with our gorgeous view. The staff were so helpful from booking, to checking in, to greeting us every time they saw us.
Our view overlooked the whole of darling harbour and we even could watch the 9pm fireworks that are on each Saturday from the comfort of our room. We could walk around to alll the shopping districts with ease and the amount of delicious cafes, bars and restaurants close by is incredible. The queen Victoria building is a 2 minute walk for a great breakfast or high tea.
We highly recommend Fraser suites for either your short stay or the long haul! It has swiftly become our favourite place to stay and we are so grateful for everything they did to make our weekend incredible and memorable!
Overnight stay, surprise early check in and upgrade to 1 bedroom apartment :) accessible room :( which isn't an issue however the complete bathroom fills with water when showering... which makes it very awkward to access other areas of the bathroom without getting wet, or transferring water to carpet. Interesting... we have been 'upgraded' to accessible rooms in the past 3 stays in the city....
Overall we enjoyed the hotel stay and was delighted by the additional gesture such as room upgrade and complimentary wine for our anniversary. However, we feel that the room could be better maintained such as the clothes dryer (with broken filter attachment and stained interior) and yellowish moldy bathroom grout. Also, we are disappointed that our luggage’s wheel was damaged (I.e. outer layer falling apart) while placed under the concierge’s care and the staff whom we collected our luggage from was quick to deny responsibility, claiming that it was already in the damaged state when we placed it under their care. We have no qualms claiming the damage from our travel insurance but it was the staff’s immediate response that felt short of our expectation of the hotels service standard.
