How to Get There
If you are looking to drop off the face of the earth, sunbake by the pool, drink moreish cocktails, eat AMAZING food, have lazy days on the beach and be pampered like no where else.... Halcyon House is the place for you.
From the moment you check in the experience is wonderful, from welcome gifts to bedtime treats. The staff are really hospitable and attentive.
Every room is unique and a wonderful surprise, well designed and extremely clean. The bathrooms are classy and comforting and the towels and amenities are of the best quality.
The new spa offers a range of amazing treatments as well as a beautiful steam room. The Purifying Body Boost is TO DIE FOR! a must try! as well as the Thermal Infusing Facial. I was glowing!
I would suggest going outside of holiday periods, especially Easter. It seems there are more young couples with young children and babies. Its a small hotel and does not cater for kids so they tend to take over the pool area.
Halcyon house is a beautiful getaway for couples and honeymooners or solo travelers (like me wanting to drop out from the world) i would not suggest it for families with young children.
Do yourself a favour, break the budget and go for a weekend of bliss and relaxation.
My husband and I had dined at Paper Daisy some 18 months previously and had a wonderful lunch and service. However a return visit on a Saturday night was not so memorable. The menu we felt was quite unbalanced with all the entrees being fish dishes and most of the starters. The dessert section did not offer a cheese platter either which was also a little disappointing. My biggest gripe being coeliac is why do top restaurants offer white only supermarket GF bread. There are so many good GF artisan breads available so I cannot understand why white bread is only offered. I would prefer they don’t offer anything. On that basis alone we did not return for breakfast.
Overall the food was underwhelming with flavours and textures missing and no wow dishes. The trend now to season all dishes and not offer salt and pepper on the table also means that many dishes are way too salty for my liking.
The service was patchy and perfunctory. Dining is not just the food but the whole experience and we felt that this was not there on this night.
We visited for our first anniversary celebration on the 28th April 2018.
On the whole we had an excellent trip but there were good and bad sides to this hotel. I'd like to write about them to give feedback.
Amazing decor - really stunning
Food - beautiful and very tasty
Cocktails - exception
Location - right on the beach, nice area, very chilled
Complementary bikes and yoga
Decent swimming pool with attentive staff
Spa - out of this world good!
Room - we were put in the disabled room 203 where everything was low down so we had to keep bending down to make a cup of tea etc. Although the decor was nice, being our anniversary it would have been nice to have a lot suitable room.
We booked with a Mr and Mrs Smith voucher which was a wedding present, however upon check out it had not been taken off our bill and they tried to charge us for the total amount.
The weather... If the weather isn't great there isn't too much to do here. So i would definately hire a car so you can drive to Byron or the Gold Coast
On the whole it was a lovely trip! We will be back.
It was a splendid lunch, in a great location and the food was superb. The menu and wine list were mouth watering without even ordering! The setting and beachside ambience enhanced the dining experience, which was completed by a great lunch, complimented perfectly by the wines suggested by the Sommelier. Have not stopped talking about the place :))
My daughter and I stayed at Halcyon House for a girls weekend away! It was perfect in every sense. The decor and architecture is fabulous. Respectfully keeping the feel in the 1980’s original motel is genius. The food at Paper Daisey is absolutely gorgeous and clever! We ate breaky and dinner each day and loved every morsel. And the spa....wow! We had a massage and loved to whole experience. Apparently this has only been open since December - what a great addition. Finally, we had lovely weather and the beach swims and walks made the whole weekend perfect. Thank you to all the Halcyon House staff members for their service and smiles. I am already planning when we will be back!
