How to Get There
Everything about the Inn speaks (screams!) Luxury but not in an ostentatious manner.
From the real drip coffee maker to the glasses, wine and water, we felt pampered just being in the spacious, tastefully decorated room.
The modern, quiet ac unit and ceiling fan kept the room at a comfortable temperature even when the streets hit 101 deg.
The Inn is only 2 easy blocks away from the downtown area and its location is removed from street noise.
How or why we ended up at the inn at Vanessie, I don’t recall. We were staying at a hotel off the plaza for the first part of our visit and then moved over the the Vanessie for the second part. The location was a few blocks away from the plaza and offered a different experience of Santa Fe - more low key and dare I say authentic. It also got us to extend our shopping and drinking to areas outside of the plaza and that was a great move.
Our room was decorated in true southwestern style, but it was all the details that jumped out to me. Each piece of wood in the room was hand hewn and stained - a great display of craftsmanship and certainly not your typical hotel furniture. Even the woven blanket on the bed was amazingly heavy and screamed quality... enough that I looked for a label to buy one for my home.
The hotel is quirky, off the beaten path, and one that you may need to change your expectations or at least be open to a different type of experience. That being said, I really enjoyed it. The staff was unbelievably helpful and added to the fun vibe. We did attend the piano bar which provided fun entertainment for one night.
I did try to workout in their gym. Keyword: try. At the time it was housed downstairs in a cramped damp room. I didn’t like the vibe and while I am sure otherwise, It didn’t feel safe. I hope that has changed.
Loved this place. Well located just a few minutes walk from the square, very large room, and lovely breakfast (included!)
I happened to get a very good deal on the room, which made the whole experience even better.
So dissapointed! Booked two nights through Hotwire/3rd party. When we arrived, they had us in in one room for the 1st night then, a different room for the 2nd night. Our pet peeve is to change rooms at the same hotel. Called 3rd party, gave us a full refund and booked us in a luxe hotel. (The Hacienda, gorg people! Free Happy Hour, breakfast and shuttle) SCORE! The Vanessie would not issue a refund so, they resold our rooms and doubled their $$$$$ . . . Hummmmm, smells dishy to me!
We stayed for only 2 nights and really would have stayed longer if we had know how convenient and romantic Vanesse is. The room was classic adobe with pine trunk beams in tall ceilings. The breakfast came with the room and was wonderful eggs, sausage, bacon and cereal along with fruit, yogurt, muffins and toast and if that wasn’t enough you could order off the menu for a small charge. The office staff was very helpful and cheerful. We could walk anywhere in town with no problem which made it so easy to navigate Sante Fe without worrying about the car. Lovely stay!
