How to Get There
First, We want to thank the staff at Vanessie for their professionalism, attentiveness and friendliness. They young man who took care of us during breakfasts was super, bringing coffee and additional items quickly. Debbie, who greeted us on arrival and departure is the best!
The room we had was the BEST. We are New Mexicans, splitting time between residences in ABQ and Taos, but spend a weekend or two every year for opera, etc. we’ve stayed at all the five-star locations over the years: La Fonda, Inn at Loretto, Inn of the Anasazi, Bishop’s Lodge, El Dorado, etc. and In at Vanessie is our new favorite. While all the places have great rooms, service and atmosphere, Vanessie has the best solitude. It was so quiet, relaxing and romantic.
This was a six day vacation in May from Austin, Texas. We were placed in room 4 which is on the first floor with a king bed and sofa bed. It is a large room with a ceiling fan, nice bath, TV and comfortable soft chairs. The room was a little dark due to the adobe walls, but adequately lighted. The restaurant was a big plus, with breakfast including eggs scrambled or to order, smoked bacon, sausage, sweet breakfast pastries and breads (locally made), juice, toast, potatoes, cereal, coffee, tea, fruit, yogurt and granola. The hostess was outstanding and met every request. This was a sit down, cloth napkin, silverware service in a beautiful sunroom forty steps from our room. It is not walking distance to the Plaza, but well located and in proximity to all the old town center attractions. Free parking on site, excellent bar and restaurant with live piano music every night.
I think that this place has serious problems in the management.
Please judge it yourself with my experiences at this hotel. There were three issues happened one after the other for just one night stay June 22, 2019
1) This place was fully booked. And they could not find my reservation when checking in. After a long wait they told me that my reservation they found was for next day and I had to deal the problem with a Expedia(=Hotels.com) myself as the payment went through them.
With confirmation info I finally find in my phone they gave a room at last.
2)The room they assigned was not what I specified when I made reservation. I wanted two bedded room like two queen beds or two double beds in a room. Again this place was fully booked. I had no choice but agreed to settle with one king bed
and a rollaway.
3)Shower sewage backed up! It did not drain at all. So I contacted on-site manager to fix it. He came and tried to fix it. But could not fix it. Using plunger made it worse and filthy smell stayed in a whole room through the night.
4)Next morning I rushed to the front desk. No one on duty till 10:30am or 11:00am. There is one piece of paper on the front dest door with number to contact. No one answer!! What the hell is this going on with this hotel!
5)We left the hotel without saying a word and seeing any front persons, no staff no manager. None of them were available.
6)I contacted and claimed it to Hotels.com, booking agent. They tried to contact the hotel while I was on the phone but they could not go through.
With all the experiences we went through they still charged me $35 resort fee on top of the full room charge. I hope that my nightmare like experience is one of a million. Maybe just bad luck. Dont you think that it would be too much asking to hear from the hotel management. What do you think ??
