How to Get There
I travel to ABQ quite a bit on business and after trying a few others, this is the only place I'll ever stay again. They do everything in their power to make you comfortable. Staff is awesome here. Really like the food choices and the 5th floor lounge is very nice, if small.
The location is ideal… Next to restaurants, malls, and close to the interstate. The hotel is nice, with some modern upgrades. Conference rooms are a great place for business meetings. The catering is also very good.
Had the New Years Eve package which included room, buffet dinner, the Pink Flamingo Show, midnight snacks and breakfast the following morning. Great pet friendly hotel, left dog in room while we partied downstairs, she had a great time also. Everything was wonderful.
I was in town for short 1 night family visit. Staff was very friendly. Hotel had a jazz band on Friday night. Club floor breakfast had nice fruit and eggs, and good coffee. Not far from foothills for my morning run. Very enjoyable stay.
My husband and I were in Albuquerque the weekend of January 4, 2019. I thought it would be nice to stay at the Sheraton Uptown because we had never stayed there before and it was also a bonus since they merged with Marriott and we are Marriott rewards member.
I like to start with the positives because if you're like me the negatives are enough to keep you from reading further and you probably have made your impression. The hotel itself looks nice and clean. The lobby is very welcoming, there is fruit infused water available. Check-in was very easy and the hotel clerk was pleasant with a smile. The bar looked nice there were several people enjoying beverages. We were on the sixth floor so the key was needed in the elevator which I felt was good for security. The room was large (632) very roomy the king size bed appeared to be nice and comfy.
The pool area was nice, one thing they had that I had not seen before is seating that is built into the wall and the seating is large, I didn't try it out so I don't know about the comfort but the cushions looked thick so I imagine that it is a comfortable seat.
The bar was nice with lovely bartenders that are very engaging, prices are in line with the area so no problem there. The dinner menu had plenty of options, we usually don't eat at the hotel at least nothing more than appetizers. The bar doesn’t have a happy hour or managers specials. This would be nice since there are several restaurants and bars in the area that do offer this. There was one particular bartender, I forget her name but she is originally from Washington State, she is super nice and when we did inquire about the food menu and asked for suggestions, she knew the menu inside out and had recommendations she obviously has tried several items on the menu so you felt like she knew what she was talking about and wasn’t just trying to upsell and keep the money in the hotel.
Now for the negatives, when we went to our room and I was highly disappointed the room smelled like it had been fumigated not a real strong smell but enough that you could tell. My husband opened the window slightly to get rid of the smell. The bathroom door is a frosted glass door cover, it is enough that you can't see in, but there still is the feeling that the bathroom isn't so private.
The room is large and spacious but nothing that made you feel that you were in a Marriott property. The hotel room walls are thin, there is quite a bit of hall noise and noise from rooms from the floor above and rooms next to each other. The other issue is that when in the shower and the toilet flushes from the, the room above then you can feel the effects, the pressure drops.
We only stayed one night and a lot of these are probably long term issues due to the age of the building. You are probably ok is just staying overnight, if it's a longer stay then what I have outlined may be something to consider.
Finally, next door is a restaurant Eggs & I, this is a fantastic place to eat, it's only opened for breakfast and lunch but the food and service is outstanding (I'll leave a review).
