How to Get There
Let me start by saying that this hotel was pristinely clean...even in areas that others may not notice, such as far underneath the bathroom vanity and in the deep recesses of the headboards...so kudos to housekeeping!
The location is great with a beautiful view. There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance...Fire & Oak is attached, Ruth Chris is a block away. The mall is right there if shopping is your thing. The PATH train into Manhattan is a two minute walk.
There is a modestly-priced gift shop with a very nice man working and some great toys for purchase to bring home to the kids.
This hotel seems to cater to the airline industry, which is great because it was nice and quiet at bedtime. The shower was very peaceful, something like a tropical waterfall...very nice and refreshing for a few days, but not strong enough to thoroughly rinse my long hair quickly...not even using the water wand...something to note if long haired girls are there for long stays.
The downsides are the price...though for this location and level of cleanliness, that’s to be expected...the valet & parking situation, which was a nightmare much like parking in the rest of JC...and the peculiar odor in the lobby. The odor was not foul, but not at all appealing to me, and it was present throughout our three night stay, so I’m doubtful that it was from the hotel’s restaurant. Also, the prices of breakfast were ridiculous! I completely understand the prices of lodging in this location, but for a bowl of cereal for a 5yo?! Spare me! We have status that translated into $10 vouchers towards each adult’s breakfast....which maybe covered the tip on an extremely inflated breakfast price even after the vouchers. Scant selections of food and the feeling that the hotel we were paying all this money to already felt the need to nickel and dime us left a bad taste in my mouth.
I struggled between rating this hotel 3 or 4 Stars, but I went with 4 because of the exceptional job housekeeping does, and the comfortable bedding and restful nights sleep we had. Showering was delightful in the waterfall shower completely with lovely White Tea Aloe toiletries. All in all it was a good stay in a beautiful and quiet hotel, so thank you Weston! You may want to look into that ridiculously overpriced breakfast menu and the strange lobby odor though. (-And give your housekeeping staff on the 22nd floor a raise!)
We stared our US round trip at the Westin Jersey City Newport and could have not asked for a better start. The room was nice even for the four if us (parents with 2 children, coming from Germany) and the view was beautiful. The hotel was close to the path, easy to get into Downtown NY but staying at the Jersey side gave us a nice and quiet rest from NY after exciting days. We did not have breakfast at the hotel but there are many nice restaurants very close by. The hotel staff was wonderful. All were so friendly and helpful at all times. Phantastic was the concierge Ben. He was the nicest guy and had the best advices for us and helped us in such a warm and personal way...we still think of him as one of the best people we met on this whole summer vacation. On our next trip to NY..we will definitly choose this hotel again.
This was a great place to stay to be able to explore NYC. Parked at the Westin and walked or took transportation everywhere we needed to be! Great location for the nightlife in Jersey City! Beautiful view of Manhattan.
