How to Get There
Just came home from a pleasant stay at the Westin. In terms of the basics everything was fine - AC, Wifi, Cleanliness, Bed Comfort, TV, Quiet, wonderful bathroom fixtures. The concierge and front desk staff were wonderful - friendly and helpful. Honestly, I was glad this hotel was not a "bring the kids hotel." No kids running up and down the halls screaming. The pool on the 5th floor is narrow but nice and clean. Nice hot tub. There is a beautiful mall across the street with all kinds of chain restaurants and standard mall shops if you're into that kind of thing.
What I was not impressed with were the add on costs. You would think for spending $200+ a night you could get free coffee in the lobby? Nope $2.50. How about Free Wifi? Nope $9.95 unless you sign up for a Marriots Reward Club. In 2019 at American Hotels free Wifi and Coffee should be "a given." I feel that's a cheap approach for a luxury hotel. Self Parking? $25 a night, but don't take your car out. If you leave and come back you just paid $5 for that privilege. Valet parking - how does $47 a day sound? For that price I could park in NYC.
The location is quite good. We drove South to the vibrant downtown scene - because the restaurants within a walk were not appealing to us. Try Roman Nose. But the neighborhood around the hotel feels 100% safe! It's a short, safe 5 minute walk to the Path train which brings you to WTC or Chelsea/Greenwich Village stops in 20 minutes. And FYI it takes the same subway card for 2.75 a ride. You can also grab the light rail train behind the hotel to ride other places like Hoboken or downtown Jersey City. We came back from Bway shows and dinner at 1 am on a Path train loaded with families. You could walk down from the hotel to the waterfront for some very pretty views of the city - reminds me of DUMBO on the other side. Just a 5 or 10 min stroll.
When I factored in the parking, round trip trains, wifi, coffee etc.. I'm not sure we saved much over staying right in the heart of the city. I think there are better options in Jersey City and Manhattan. Probably will look elsewhere next time.
The staff was super friendly and had some great recommendations for things to do in JC. The amenities were great and the pool is awesome! Parents were here visiting and stayed here while visiting JC and NYC. Had a great experience and will definitely return when visiting JC in the future.
very nice, staff excellent ,very clean and pretty up to date.the Bartender ws very helpful and knowledgable. At times the front desk was empty but never waited past 3 min for help. This is a better than decent hotel, although it was a bit Pricey for the location and still have to travel a bit to NT and airport.
For a special getaway long weekend we booked one of the Westin's City View rooms and used it as a base for visiting sights in lower Manhattan. We could not have been more pleased with the Westin location, the room, and especially the incredible view of the Manhattan skyline. Staff was very friendly. The Westin location is only two blocks from the Newport PATH station to take the subway into Manhattan. The only issue is temporary closure of the lower Manhattan WTC PATH station on weekends to you need to go into midtown and connect. There is also a mall and there are several reasonable dining options within walking distance of the Westin. The bedding was comfortable and the view of the Manhattan skyline was worth leaving one of the curtains open all day and all night! Spectacular.
Beyond expectations! Cordial staff and top-notch amenities. Travelled for business and was extremely content. Would definitely recommend for multiple reasons, not to mention the ideal location for exploring the Metropolitan!
