Historic downtown Napa landmark with wine-tastings, riverside dining and an onsite bakery
Built on the site of the former Napa Mill in the heart of downtown, the Napa River Inn’s main building dates to 1884 and holds a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Common areas feel similarly historic with antique furniture and a mix of dark wood and heavy brocades, plaids and florals.
Bed & Bath
Eight of the 66 rooms are located within the old mill, and they’re the best in the house. Successfully blending period pieces with contemporary style, the Historic Rooms rooms have sitting areas with tufted loungers and velvet ottomans, fireplaces, crown moldings, exposed brick walls and bathrooms with claw-foot tubs. The remaining rooms are divided between two modern buildings, which also front the river and continue the tasteful (albeit conservative) Americana design with raspberry-red chintz and heavy colonial wooden furniture. The Embarcadero building has occasional nautical references; the Plaza building has the added plus of balconies or patios, many with full river views. All have the requisite details, including sumptuous beds, his-and-her bathrobes and nightly turndown service.
Other thoughtful details showcase local artisans. Breakfast comes hot from the oven at the dee-lish onsite bakery, the nightly wine hour features Napa vintages, coffee is roasted nearby, and even the bath amenities are locally made. The spa offers treatments such as grape love body polish, which uses organic grapeseed oil and mill-crushed grapeseeds for a full body exfoliation before cabernet butter makes your skin silky smooth.
