French manor house charm and a sumptuous vino-centric spa in the Napa Valley's foodie fantasyland
This inn and its sprawling grounds looks like what might happen if an elegant French country manor were deconstructed and dropped into the heart of California Wine Country. From this charming spot, rows of neatly manicured rose bushes and the occasional white picket gate are all that separates you from the gourmet fantasyland of Yountville. Among the orange trees and rose bushes you’ll find tumble-down farm carts converted into planters and stone-lined pools filled with water from a burbling fountain. The evocation is fitting, since parts of the property are converted from the original Groezinger Estate winery, which dates back to the 1870s.
Bed & Bath
Overlooking the grounds are 80 spacious guestrooms set in clusters of two-story wood-paneled or brick cottages. The rooms offer luxe amenities that belie the property’s rustic feel. This is pure country charm — with a much higher thread count. Each room has its own wood-burning fireplace, and ground-floor rooms have private patios, while second-floor spaces are equipped with balconies and wood-raftered cathedral ceilings.
Days start with a free champagne breakfast and wind down with you warming by the wood-burning fireplace after a soak in the oversize hot tub. In between, you can play a few sets of tennis on the on-premises courts, relax at the world-class Spa Villagio on the Estate grounds or stretch out with a yoga or Pilates class. Travel the wine trail on your own (the inn provides free iPod Touches preprogrammed with winery maps and suggested tour routes) or with a bike touring company, and, of course, eat your way through the Michelin Guide. No joke: Yountville boasts more Michelin stars per capita than any other hamlet in the nation.
How to Get There
My wife and I stayed in a King Deluxe room and really enjoyed our stay. The room was very nice and well kept. The staff were always friendly and the breakfast was good as well. We enjoy the fire pit in the evening as well. Will definitely return.
First the good, the location in Yountville is fantastic. Breakfast was pretty good, but as others have noted pretty limited when it comes to hot items and the same everyday. What wasn't acceptable was the fitness center- run down and there were a total of 2 treadmills one which was out of order and the other wouldn't go past a certain speed. The road noise in the rooms by the back parking lot is terrible, there are no dressers and the closet is small. I thought the beds were uncomfortable. I asked to switch to a first floor room at check in and and was told there was only one available. It was a handicapped room, wish the desk clerk had told me this before switching as I asked if the room was the same as the second floor room and she told me it was. Other front desk people were friendly and professional. The battery also died in the door lock and it took awhile to get back in the room. After the new keys didn't work, they sent us back to the room with a bellman, his key didn't work either. Only then did they call maintenance. When I spoke to the front desk manager about these issues he said he would look into it and get back to me. I never did hear back but my final bill was reduced by $52. Not sure if that credit was for the problems or not. I won't return.
4.5 stars rounding up :)
It was our first time staying at the vintage house, and we weren’t disappointed.
Room: we got the deluxe king, which had a nice tub with jets and a rain shower. The bed was extremely comfy. While I was looking forward to the high ceiling as shown in the pictures when we had booked it, we got a room on the first floor with regular height ceilings. We also found a couple hair on the side of the tub before we used it. It had been raining outside so the balcony furnitures weren’t clean for our use the. These were pretty minor issues though.
Service: everyone was so friendly and helpful. We arrived early and they let us check in one hour early with no problem.
Hotel property: really well kept. It was cold so we didn’t use the pool or the sitting area outside. However it looked really nice. We also walked by it’s sister hotel, villagio, which was down the street. We like the more cozy and intimate setting of vintage house better, although both were beautiful.
Location: perfect. Bouchon and bakery are right across the street. Bottega is right next door. Also within walking distance to many wine rooms and French Laundry.
Breakfast: it was quite an amazing spread! We really enjoyed everything.
Wine hour was great—would be perfect if they had more glasses! Thank you to all the staff for an amazing stay.
Property was clean, beautiful, plenty of umbrellas handy. Staff was extremely helpful with wine on arrival and spotless room. Car was fronted the entire time and valets were superb. Lots to do in Yountville and managed to snag a table not only at Bottega but Bouchon as well. I would come back in a heartbeat for fun, relaxation and friendly, helpful people.
We arrived early on a rainy Saturday and the hotel staff was incredibly accommodating to our early arrival, providing us with umbrellas and an offer of the hotel breakfast. The location was excellent -within walking distance to all the restaurants and tasting rooms in Yountville. The room itself was cozy, clean, and newly updated, and the breakfast was delicious.
