Less than an hour north of Napa, the Sunburst Calistoga is a comfy, stylish base for exploring the region’s wineries, spas and boutiques. Fully renovated in 2013, guestrooms are done up with a retro-modern look in bright orange, white and black, with flatscreen TVs, mini fridges and coffee makers. All of the en-suite bathrooms have black-and-white tiled showers stocked with Gilchrist & Soames amenities, plus robes and vintage-style vanities. For travelers with pets, the hotel partners with a local pet-sitting service to provide private walks, group exercise and more (for a fee). Fresh coffee is available in the lobby and guests are welcome to refuel from a day on the vineyards with picnics and wine in the manicured garden. Or, for serious relaxation, there are three outdoor mineral pools heated naturally by local hot springs to between 80 and 100 degrees.
In the Area
Historic Calistoga is a gateway to some of California’s best wine regions, including Sonoma Wine Country, Russian River Valley and Healdsburg. Most wineries now have daily tastings for a small fee — check out favorites like Chateau Montelena, plus Bennett Lane Winery and Castello di Amorosa. Beyond the vines, the region is known for its Old Faithful Geysers, just a short drive away, hikes along the Palisades Trail and the vibrant art scene in downtown Calistoga. For foodies, nearby Yountville is a hub for Michelin-star restaurants. Book well in advance to score a table at the legendary French Laundry, Bouchon or Redd, or head to downtown Calistoga for dinner at local fave, JoLe.
How to Get There
One of the best places in Calistoga. The rooms are always clean and the staff is very helpful. The pools are awesome.
I like that selection of little goodies in the main area you can purchase, they have bikes that can be checked out... its my favorite Calistoga destination.
On a recent stay I forgot my sweatshirt and I called like 4 days later, they had the item and mailed it to me! Incredible!
We were looking for a dog-friendly place in Calistoga and chose this based on the website and reviews. We are really happy with the choice. The property is at the edge of Calistoga, so it doesn't feel cramped, yet it is just several blocks from the charming restaurants downtown. The pools are just immaculate and the patio is a friendly, laid-back place for soaking or casual swimming. There was a very large, grassy dog area. Unfortunately it isn't fenced, but it is one of the best dog walking areas I've seen at a hotel. The spa is great, too. Great massage! Lovely facility. All in all, it was a great getaway for us and for the dog, too. (Hint: Ask for rooms on the back side of the property as the front faces the main road into Calistoga.)
Very sweet spot with lots of fun amenities. It's definitely a motel, so don't be expecting anything exceptionally fancy from the photos. But the pool and lobby and spa are all very nice and everyone is very kind and helpful. I had a great time!
Pleasant simple place to stay. Well located; slightly out of town. very simple but comfortablele and clean. There is no restaurant (though they seem to be constructing one). and it is necessary to find breakfast elsewhere. Snacks are available in the lobby. The pool area is a bit shabby, but the spa is nice. Very friendly nice staff Who helped me with a midnight medical emergency..
This place was perfect. From the little mason jars of (really good) coffee to the mineral water pools this place hit our entire wish list. The spa was really fun, I did the mud bar, and I loved the puzzle table and adult colouring books. We ended up spending more time at the lodge than the wineries so that says something! Would absolutely come back.
