A five-star stay at a Victorian-era hotel with plenty of character, centrally located in vibrant Yangon

The Lowdown

Step into a piece of history when you visit The Strand in Yangon. The Victorian-era building, completed in 1901 was first restored in 1989. Retaining the charm of its heritage, the iconic building was transformed into a suite-only, luxury hotel. Just recently, in November 2016, the hotel was rejuvenated once more with technologically advanced amenities for the modern traveller.
But never fear, its colonial grandeur remains, albeit with some modern touches. Step through its marble-clad lobby and spot decades old chandeliers, authentic period furnishings such as faille curtains, Myanmar rattan chairs, some painted red for a pop of boldness and fixtures from a time past. A must-visit is the Sarkies Bar. The century-old bar, now refurbished with a comfy, gentleman’s club feel, has played host to luminaries such as Noël Coward, Rudyard Kipling and Orson Welles.
A stay here is one of comfort and extreme luxury, (24 hour butler service is on hand) with the romance of a time long ago. Experience the best of Myanmar’s rich culture just outside the hotel’s door while you return each night to this award-winning, 31-suite hotel. The Strand is a member of The Leading Hotels Of The World group, hold multiple TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards and Certificates of Excellence as well as accolades from Condé Nast Traveler and more.
