Overview

Contemporary lakeside retreat in central Myanmar with a restaurant over the lake and a walk-in wine cellar

The Lowdown

An ultimate get-away-from-it-all retreat, the Novotel Inle Lake Myat Min is for lazy lakeside relaxation in a cool, contemporary setting. Architecturally inspiring, the hotel features bold cubic buildings, wood panel walls and vast windows. Accommodation options include 60 junior suites and 60 lakeside villas; each is decorated with dark wood flooring and royal blue and charcoal-gray furnishings. All rooms have patios or balconies, but it’s well worth splurging on an overwater villa for spectacular views. The outdoor pool deck is great for a cooling dip, while afternoons can be spent sipping a cocktail (or two) at the Sunset bar. The stylish Terrace restaurant serves Asian and international dishes as well as daily specials. There’s a handy on-site spa and hammam if you’re seeking relaxation; for a little gentle exercise, use the free bikes to explore the area, or take a slow boat out onto the lake.

In the Area

Located in central Myanmar, Lake Inle is surrounded by lush countryside and small villages, including the traditional town of Nyaungshwe. Learn how to cook local dishes at the Bamboo Delight Cooking School, where chefs help you choose ingredients at a market before showing you the ropes. Strolling around the town, you can’t help being charmed by the cultural sights and traditions; two must-sees are the Ywama (floating market) and Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery. Of course, plenty of the area’s activities are based around — or above — the lake. For spectacular views of the region, head up in a hot air ballon.

Nice hotel but unfortunatly.. food poising

First of all let my start by saying this is a beautiful hotel with nice accomadations.
When we arrived we got an upgrade to a villa which was very nice. We went to have a dip in the pool and have drinks.
After our boattrip we went to gave dinner. Since we are both vegetarian it is always diffucult to choose but i found my thing. There is an acomplentary salad and dessert bar which is really nice.

My husband had the salad and a risotto which he thught tasted funny so he put it on the side.
For me i ate my belly full.
We had our dinner an webt to sleep.

In the middle of the night my husband needed to run like 20 times to the toilet because it all came out on both ends. No keedfor further details. In the morning we called the doctor and as we suspected he had food poising.

That sitt us back for 50 dollars and we had to change plans fir our futher trip which sets us back another 100€ because of changing fees.
We thought it might ve safer since we were going to the remote chin state.
So we decided to switch our schedule and stay in bagan fir safty reasons.

So this food poising was not only unpleasant but cost us a lot of time, money and effort.

Which is a pitty since otherwise the hotel is great.

Fantastic hotel in a lovely setting

We would happily return to Novotel Inle. The staff is exceptionally helpful, the rooms are beautiful and comfortable, the setting on the lake is perfect. We slept deeply every night. The food was just right. We have zero complaints. Su Mon and her team went the extra step to ensure we had everything we needed. We are delighted!
A note to those considering travel to Inle off-season: we are glad we came in May. There are no crowds! The flowers are in bloom. The bird life is astonishing. The down side is that the lake is low, so we couldn’t get to all the pagodas we intended, but May otherwise was a good choice.

Life saver

This Novotel came to my rescue at the last minute - the accommodation my planner had made up the lake was absolutely unacceptable - the Novotel had availability and went to lengths to make my time in Inle Lake wonderful. Great cuisine, excellent staff. I’m not sure when I’ll be back in Myanmar, but if I do return, this will be my choice for Inle Lake.

Absolutely brilliant

Although we stayed here for only a night, we can't stop talking about how awesome this hotel is.

The Terrace Restaurant
The staff at the restaurant speak really good english and were extremely attentive. The food was great as well. Especially their local cuisine. While the breakfast spread was not as lavish as some other resorts in other parts of the world, it was sufficient to keep us very happy. We liked it here so much that we didn't try the other restaurant.

Accom
Due to status, we got upgraded to the superior villa. The villa is something out of a dream. The room was extremely big with a huge balcony. The toilets were also spacious and cleverly designed. The attention paid to design and cleanliness is something I can't say enough about. The bed with the mosquito net canopy is definitely the highlight. There was little need for it though as we didn't encounter much of those.

Lobby staff / Concierge
The staff here were equally adept in English and were also equally courteous. They were also extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the tours and things to do around here. They were able to organize boat tours within an hour for us.

Location
With a hefty on the lake itself, you can't be better placed to explore Lake Inle. The fact that it is about 90 mins from the airport is more a case of the airport being far from everything else than a reflection of the resort's location.

Something to note
They are quite particular in the USD notes used to make payment. This is actually the case throughout Myanmar. The note can't even be extensively creased.
