Coastal retreat on the Bodrum Peninsula with breezy interiors, a private beach and a restaurant overlooking Bitez Bay

The Lowdown

Overlooking tranquil Bitez Bay, on the Bodrum Peninsula, the Doria is a sleek retreat that blends contemporary design and traditional Mediterranean style. The open-plan lobby/lounge has a relaxed seaside feel, with light wood floors, coral armchairs and colorful wall prints. The guestrooms are decked out in a similar bright and breezy style with pale wood furniture, ocean-blue throws and a private balcony with garden or sea views. The minimalist bathrooms feature rainfall showers and marble walls. Sun seekers can spend the day by the outdoor pool, enjoy a cocktail at the Club House or head down to the hotel’s private beach, where you can order a drink right from your lounge chair. Dine on Mediterranean and Aegean dishes at the Blu restaurant, an alfresco eatery overlooking the bay. For a spot of pampering, the Doria Spa offers a range of massage treatments and has a luxe Turkish bath.

In the Area

Bitez Bay is a 10-minute drive from the bustling center of Bodrum, home to ancient sites and colorful markets. Explore the 15th-century castle and the Underwater Archaeology Museum, and stroll around the two pretty harbors and the old town’s narrow, shop-lined streets. Farther afield is the ancient wonder of Ephesus, which can be a daytrip arranged through the hotel. You can also book a boat trip to the Greek island of Kos from the Bodrum marina.

Lovely hotel but lacked a bit of character
Reviewed 5 months ago

Amazing rooms. The view was stunning. Loved the swimming pool and the sunbathing terrace with the scenario over the bay. Maybe we came at the end of season but it lacked a bit of life. It is quite isolated so at night the only options were either to get a taxi or have a drink in the empty drafty bar

Breakfast: Online guests had described a buffet breakfast. However there was no buffet throughout stay, we were given a breakfast plate.

Facilities: We were really looking forward to relaxing in the spa and enjoying a swim in the indoor pool. However, the pool was dirty and extremely cold. As I am pregnant I didn't want to risk getting in. My husband did but couldn't bear it for more than a minute. The sauna was switched off and we saw no-one in the massage area and it appeared closed.

Staff: The gentleman who checked us in wasn't very welcoming. However I must say aside from him, the other three staff members we saw were very pleasant. Especially the lady at reception with short hair, and the man who served the breakfast.

Hotel in general: Considering the rating of 5*, the hotel was surprisingly dirty in some areas. We saw dead insects everywhere and there were many stains in the room on the walls.

I understand tourist season had ended when we visited, and that could explain the lack of useable facilities and served breakfast. However, I was disappointed that we weren't informed of this when booking the hotel or at the very least by the man who checked us in. We were looking forward to a relaxing weekend away from our busy lives in Istanbul, to sit and enjoy our time in a lovely hotel. The hotel website and reviews promised this but the reality was very different.

I raised my complaints with the hotel before decided to write a trip advisor review, however I felt I was sent the standard response they give to all complaints and none of my issues were addressed.

quiet stay in a comfortable hotel

We came, knowing it was out of season, so it was lovely and quiet, the room was super comfortable and a really good size. Amazing views. Decor and set up was very professional and well done. I can imagine it being very different in summer, maybe a little more noise and a little more warmtn (that's the weather - not the staff!). Would happily recommend. Definitely come in off season if you're looking for a classy place that is quiet. I think for us, we would have preferred somewhere more central given how quiet it is at this time of year, but that's a reflection on us and not on the hotel at all. In summer, this place would be a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of tourists in the main towns.

Nice. Great chef!

Stayed with family,2 teens and a 10 year old for 4 nights. Very quiet in Oct, we were almost the only ones there - but that’s Bodrum that time of year. Still worth it to go. Good rooms, well renovated. Nice view. I wouldn’t call this a 5 star. It’s really a very good 4 plus. Friendly staff and very clean. The big surprise was the half board. The food was fabulous! Sea bass lovely, steaks tender. Wine inexpensive. Made the stay. Do the Jeep safari a great day out and it’s cheap. Final analysis is if you get a good rate and we recommend the half board you will be happy. More boutique/smaller style than the big all inclusives. Depends on what you want really. Fresh nice simple style.

Amazing views

The Doria hotel is located in Bitez which is about 10 to 15 minutes taxi ride from Bodrum town. The hotel has two pools both of which have amazing views , one looks out over the Agean and is located at the restaurant with the second near the gym/spa with views overlooking the local town and sea. The restaurant serves very good meals and is where breakfast is also served. The rooms are of a good size with comfortable beds. The hotel sits at the top of a very steep driveway which has a conveniance store, restaurant and bar at the bottom. There is a larger supermarket about 4 minutes walk and the local township with shops, restaurants ten minutes walk. The hotel also has a shuttle service to its own swimming area which is a rock shelf type area onthe sea with loungers and a rstaurant/bar. Had a very enjoyable stay here.
