Superb Italian food in Cuernavaca

I have been before in this classy hotel and restaurant with the family of a close friend and enjoyed a small evening meal after a social event. Today I wanted to treat my lady, who did not know this place, even if she had spent a good part of her teenager holiday time at a nearby villa. So I offered her a lunch experience at the antica Villa restaurant who offers a menu that is half Italian and half Mexican, like our couple. Upon inspection of the menu, I went for a full Italian meal with a fantastic salmon carpaccio followed by a superb main pasta dish, homemade spaghetti alla chitarra (scqyared section) with shrimps and a variety of vegetables, from artichokes to asparagus. There was no need for the Italian owner of the place to recommend the chef to maintain the pasta ‘al dente’ as he heard I am Italian - the homemade pasta was cooked fine, amalgamating its green (by spinach coloring) starchy texture with the vegetable and crustecean source in a delicious mix. Only one pinch of salt was probably missing for my taste but this very minor defect was promptly corrected also with abundant black pepper. Mouth watering, isn’t it? And it was, but also filling!
My lady choice of main was not of equivalent quality but still in the top 20% range for Italuan food here in Mexico.
The ambiance fantastic and the service excellent. Si why I don’t give a top score for this restaurant? Well, because there was a 20% VAT (IVA) surcharge over the final bill, which is unusual here in Mexico (as in Italy and many other countries I visited), also because the menu did not list prices “before VAT” . Why adding a 20% surcharge to an already pricy bill escapes my mind and sincerely hope the management of this restaurant will modify this, for it takes away points from a otherwise superb culinary experience.

A really beautiful antic hotel. For me as a frequent business traveller I always enjoy at pearls like this. I'm getting tired of the standard business hotel chains.
I did stay during the week and the hotel was pretty empty.
I was only disappointed to see that since my last visit the had to cut down the tree in the center of the yards....

Anticavilla wasn’t a surprise for me. Situated in one of the poshest areas in Cuernavaca I knew it would be a nice place. What I didn’t imagine is that it would have such an excellent service. And you know that service depends on people. Every single staff person I met with was caring, friendly and willing to make us feel happy and at home. Another surprise was the combination of Hacienda and modern arquitecture!!! So well done!!! We stayed at the Presidential suite...a place to remember... so white!!And with a singular private terrace. The kind I love because I like to be naked in my room. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is exquisite. Mexican dishes I had never tried before. Anticavilla has become part of my family. I am so lucky to have found it. Definitely a place worth staying!! You have now another recurrent client...
