Centrally located Montreal hotel with modern style and true French flavor
Located in a glass tower in the historic Golden Square Mile district, the Sofitel Montreal has serious modern style, true French flavor and excellent downtown views. The rooms may not be large (Superior Rooms are just 240 square feet), but what the hotel lacks in space it makes up for with a comfortable and sleek approach. Each room has floor-to-ceiling windows, rich wood paneling, large closets, goose featherbeds and pillows, and marble bathrooms with rainfall showerheads and L’Occitane products. The on-site Restaurant Renoir has a sunny, open atmosphere and serves classic French dishes, which you can enjoy alfresco on the outdoor terrace during the summer months. With its oh-so-chic urban decor and somewhat corporate vibe, this hotel is slightly more formal than a casual guest may prefer. The staff is more business than play, but you’ll still find the Sofitel an excellent home base for exploring everything Montreal has to offer.
In the Area
Check out the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montreal, Canada's oldest museum, housing lots of Quebecois art, Mediterranean archaeology, decorative arts and European masterworks (including handsome Picassos, Rembrandts and El Grecos). Those looking to stay active should visit the century-old Parc La Fontaine, which offers bike trails and jogging paths (you can even cross-country ski or snowshoe in the winter); it also has waterfalls, fountains, playing fields, tennis courts and an open-air theater. Want to get in touch with nature? Head to the Biodome de Montreal, which has walk-through recreations of a tropical rain forest (complete with monkeys dangling overhead), a Laurentian forest, the St. Lawrence marine system and a polar environment. When you're ready to flex that plastic, take a stroll down Rue Ste-Catherine to peruse the stylish department stores and luxury boutiques; head to Rue Sherbrooke for international and Canadian fashion boutiques and galleries.
