How to Get There
Right on the seaside! We chose a suite facing the sea. Had a balcony where we saw seals playing in the sea just below us! Room was great, service excellent, location was perfect. Suggest paying the extra to have a view of the ocean!
We stayed there 4 nights in September during the Monterrey jazz Festival weekend.
Our room was very large and luxurious. The staff were all round helpful and extremely knowledgable. The location was walkable to everywhere,
We had dinner there 2 nights and weree surprised how good the food and service were. It was a very pleasant and romantic evening for us on both occasions, we even brought our own wine one night.(no one minded).
Stayed here for 5 nights on a business trip. I truly enjoyed my time at the Clement. The hotel fits right in the quaint cannery row area where you have access to some nice restaurants as well as easy access to the famed Monterey Bay Aquarium. The hotel is right on the ocean so you’ll have amazing views if you get a nice ocean view room. If not, just go to the restaurant and you’ll enjoy equally amazing views. The food (breakfast) options were good and tasty, though not on the cheaper side. The room was tidy and clean and spacious. I like the amenities at this property: a decent gym (albeit small), an outside pool (small as well), plenty of lobby/lounging space and the beautiful seasonal decorations. All the staff member I encountered were professional and friendly. The house keeping team did a great job with turn down service daily, a nice touch that fits the IHG name.
If you’re a runner (or enjoy casual walks), don’t miss the amazing trail along the beach. It’s easy to find and if you run along it up to Lovers point, you’ll have an opportunity to sight some seals leisurely enjoying their sun bathing rituals on the beach. It’s particularly awe-inspiring during sun rise.
I’ll definitely come back on a non-work related trip and spend more time strolling around and exploring the city. I won’t hesitate to stay here again on a future occasion.
This is a review of my recent stay at InterContinental The Clement during the Thanksgiving weekend. I arrived around 1:30pm on a Saturday. I used the valet parking, which costs about $35/day. Self-parking, I believe, is the same price. Anyway, I tried to check in, but the room was not ready, so I took my family for lunch. I returned to check to see if the room is ready, the time was around 3:45pm. They told me that it was not ready yet, but the clerk called housekeeping to see if it was ready. I waited for another 15 minutes, before I got my key card. Everything was okay with the check-in. They recognized my status with IHG, Platinum Ambassador. The thing that bothered me most is that they had told me the usual check in time is 3pm, but when I checked on the room around 3:45pm to see if it was ready, I was disappointed that it was not. The other disappointed thing was my daughter loves swimming pool. When we get to the gym to check the swimming pool, it was small and tiny as well as the hot tub. The way to get to the swimming pool is to get to the second floor walk the cross bridge the follow the sign to the gym and the pool area is just across from it.
The rest of the stay was pretty darn good. The room that I got was ocean view (with the terrace) on the third floor. The view was great.
I just wished that I'd have a room at the ends of the hallway, since whose have 100% ocean view. I am not complaining about the room that my family got. As a Platinum Ambassador, I received a lovely not from the head concierge, a fruit plate, and a very nice chocolate, which my family all shared (it wasn't an individual size) It's a prime location, meaning that the location is within walking distance to everywhere, especially to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which my family spend most of the time after checked in. The staff were great.
I have to say, apart from the bad check in experience, I would say that my overall stay was pretty darn good. I would definitely come back, using my award certificate from my Chase credit card. And, I would definitely recommend to my friends and family.
My family absolutely loves staying at the intercontinental monterey, and likely have stayed 10+ times over the past few years. It has a special place in our hearts. Their oceanfront rooms are incredible and we also enjoy staying in their pet-friendly rooms at the back of the hotel. However, after many great stays, my most recent stay has left me feeling somewhat upset.
1. They tried to charge me the pet fee twice. (the explanation was lame- said it is applied daily and has to be manually removed = at the customer's request) I wonder how this works with people who don't check their bills, or people whose english is limited, or those who are unfamiliar with their exact pet policy, etc.
2. The driver seat of our car was reclined all the way back when we got it back from valet. My husband was upset . Someone probably hung out in our car and forgot to put the seat up.
3. I found an additional $34 charge after checking out. when asked about it, they said it is from the minibar, and listed off an itemized list. We didn't eat anything in the minibar, SO HOW EXACTLY DID THEY COME UP WITH THESE VERY SPECIFIC ITEMS THAT WERE SUPPOSEDLY CONSUMED? this upset me the most, because, it seemed quite shady and unethical. Something is wrong here.
This was my first time booking through a third party website, and I wonder if that is the issue. But for a hotel that has a special place in my entire family's hearts (it was where we took our last family vacation together before a family member passed away soon after) It is quite curious how all these events arose and I do hope that things improve, esp for such a beautiful hotel.
