All-suite, Spanish-style sleep in downtown Monterey with in-room fireplaces and patios or balconies

The Lowdown

This all-suite sleep fits right into its downtown Monterey location thanks to a Spanish adobe-inflected design. The spacious lobby has a homey vibe, from the terra-cotta tile floors and working fireplace to the cowhide chairs and comfy sofas. Outside, a double height waterfall feature anchors a quiet courtyard that’s perfect for soaking up the year-round Central Cali sunshine. Guestrooms start at a spacious 450 square feet, with hardwood floors, seating areas, gas fireplaces and mini fridges. All bathrooms have both tubs and standalone showers, and each room has a private, furnished patio or balcony (accessed via an outdoor corridor in Standard Junior Suites). There’s no restaurant, but a hearty breakfast spread of pastries, fruit, yogurt and more is served each morning, and there are free afternoon refreshments.

In the Area

For family trips, a stop at the town’s famed aquarium is a must, as is a tour with Princess Monterey Whale Watching for dolphin, orca and humpback whale spotting. Spend an afternoon browsing the shops, galleries and wine-tasting rooms along Cannery Row — some favorites include the Cannery Row Antique Mall and Pierce Ranch Vineyards outpost. For a memorable meal, make a reservation at the wonderfully old-fashioned Sardine Factory and be sure to order the abalone bisque, which was served at President Reagan’s inaugural dinner.

The guest service was fantastic and the location is great, however, there was nothing else that truly stood out as "Wonderful!"The breakfast items need to be reconsidered and the small appliances need to be replaced. The toasters do not heat and there was only 1 microwave.

Cozy Hotel

The hotel over all is very nice. It is very clean and cozy. It could use some updating in some areas, mainly just cosmetic. The continental breakfast is included and very nice. Fresh fruit, muffins, toast, out meal, juices, etc. A wine, and cheese and snack from 4-7 is also a very nice touch.

Great stay

Upon arrival we were greeted with WINE and SNACKS - just what we wanted!!! The room was totally clean and very cute (lots of character). Checkout was easy. Location was good - close to the coast, restaurants, etc. I parked on the street with no problem. Casual feel to it.

Good Choice in Monterey
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This was my second visit to this hotel. Again I had a room in the front of the hotel, which can be noisy from the traffic. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the hotel is very well located, so I do recommend this property. You may just request a room that isn't right in the front. There are no view rooms that I am aware of as this is a lowrise hotel, which makes it nice. There is plenty of parking below the hotel but it will cost you $20 a day to park. Still, there is no valet, so it's super easy to go in and out. On both check-in and check-out the receptionist was busy making reservations, including taking credit card numbers, etc., while I was forced to wait. This is something that should be handled by a back office. Apparently, a lot of people reserve directly. When I got into my room I noticed there as no soap so I had to go down and ask for some. I also couldn't find the thermostat and eventually found it behind a non-working lamp. I guess I would say that this place is a good choice for the reasons I stated above but there are some areas that could use some attention.

Romantic overnight Stay

My husband and I decided to have an unexpected weekend trip to Monterey. I found this little gem of a hotel and booked us a Luxury King Suite. Upon our arrival, we were informed that because it was a slow weekend, they upgraded us to a Premier King Suite. Very nice surprise! During our stay there was a pretty big storm. It was very romantic to have the the wind howling outside while we were tucked away in our quaint room with the fireplace running. We will definitely return!
