How to Get There
Our room was extremely comfortable and plush, from the bedding to the bath robes to the luxurious toiletries. We loved the indoor fireplace and fire-making supplies were always well-stocked - although the keeper always offered to make a fire for us or have one burning when we returned from our chilly adventures. The cleaning staff was very attentive, but made sure not to disturb us at any time. They visited to tidy up and restock whenever we were out. The giant jacuzzi with disappearing edge and fabulous views was wonderful - especially when the keeper made sure to bring wine and keep the outdoor fireplace burning. I could go on - but I'll just say: we cannot wait to return!
The Resturant at Rainbow Lodge was by far our finest high end dining during our one week stay. Start with the daily 4-6pm happy hour for drinks and appetizers (basic hamburger is one option) and you may not need dinner ! Dinner gets pricey but well worth it, elk chops, filet mignon & ribeye regular beef, bison NY strip, presentation, service, and the view was noteworthy !
Our visit exceeded our expectations. From the moment we walked into our room, we knew we were in a very special place. Our room had wide pine floors, a log wall, a wood-burning stone fireplace, and a bath/dressing area that dazzled us (two sink/vanity areas on opposite walls, a tiled rain shower, a large soaking tub, huge open closets). Yummy cookies awaited our arrival. Outside our door was a private wood and stone porch with Adirondack chairs, and beyond that was a view of the pond. The grounds were beautiful: flowers, a little bridge and waterfall, the Gallatin River flowing by. Breakfast was served upstairs in the great room and bar area with seating in both the dining room and on the deck. Lovely. We would return in a heartbeat—and stay longer.
Bucket list trip for me to Big Sky and Rainbow Ranch is in a beautiful location on the river. The pond view room was nice but the bathrooms need an overhaul. Dirty/discolored grout and rust in the jets of the tub. No cell service for phones is something guests should be warned of prior to booking. Needing to drive 1/2 mile to make a call is not convenient. Skip the overpriced restaurant , the food did not live up to the billing. No air conditioning and it was pretty warm in the room at night although fans are provided. Service in general was good and personnel were nice.
We stayed at Rainbow Ranch Lodge to celebrate my parents 70th bdays, the location of this place is stunning we had 2 river lodges. Unfortunately attention to detail was sorely lacking, no hand soap in rooms and despite complaining on arrival none materialized the entire trip in fact I had to go and buy my own. The breakfasts were a huge letdown. We had read that the restaurant is supposed to be top notch but when you are served ‘Costco’ like bagels, motel packets of cheap corn syrup jelly and anemic over cooked eggs it doesn’t exactly entice you to shell out to see if they can actually cook dinner. They also repeatedly ran out of breakfast items or just didn’t serve things depending on who was working or not working. Surely if you tout yourself as a gourmet destination you should at least have some home made museli/granola, or some home made bread??? Local produce?? Not once during our trip did anyone mention my folks big birthdays despite me emailing to let the hotel know that’s why we were there and asking if they could make it special. In fact no one checked in with us for our entire stay, until I checked out as if an aside! Whilst our rooms were relatively clean you could certainly not say spotless. Adequate but like much of our stay underwhelming. Rainbow Ranch so much potential get yourself a decent manager who pays attention to detail and look to exceed guests expectations not fall short. Disappointed.
