How to Get There
The location is great - lots of great shopping and eats close by. Our room was lovely but the view was very unexceptional. We loved the rooftop pool and had drinks there one night, but it was way too dark. We had an extremely hard time reading the menus. Also, the service on the pool area was poor. The waitstaff hardly checked in on us and it took forever to get our check. The front desk service was very slow. They were very friendly but seemed understaffed the weekend of our stay. We tried to use the complimentary taxi service but it took forever to get a taxi to come to the hotel that we just took an uber instead.
This "four star" hotel is a beautiful property. . . . but the staff (including the Senior Staff) are "one-star" in quality and helpfulness.
The stay (three nights with four rooms) began when our daughter checked in and found dirty laundry in her bedroom from the previous guest, a molding tray of food from the same, and a refrigerator that had smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in a year. Worse was the fact that the room (and nearby hallway) smelled of dope.
With her asthma, she wanted to change rooms-- but staff said that the hotel was full-- even when there were rooms still unchecked in--and they could have moved her to a different room and cleaned her room for someone else.
I got involved. . . suggested this resolution, but the front desk staff were not authorized to do this-- and the hotel does not have a Manager on Duty (EVER) to deal with these situations.
I eventually ended up talking with (same early evening) the Reservation Manager in the hotel who said he would resolve the problem. He DID NOT-- and (according to the front desk staff) immediately left to go home (if we was even on property when he talked with me). So he basically lied to me.
At 11 PM that same night, I left a long voice mail with the hotel GM who called me the next morning with apologies and a room comp.
I told him that three different staff had independently told us that earlier night that a "big spender" was staying in the hotel and was being allowed to smoke dope-- thus "smoking up" all the nearby rooms and hallways. The GM must have know that I was talking about (we found this out later) Drake-- the rapper. . . and that what I told him was true.
Indeed, the next night the same thing happened with Drake and his entourage.
Never mind that this is illegal. What about the two members of my party (both adults) with asthma !!!!
There were three or four additional MAJOR issues. . . but you get the point here.
As noted, the GM comped us for one night (of our three), but given the problems during the ENTIRE three day stay, this was not clearly not enough. The whole stay should have been comped, and an offer for free nights in the future should have occurred.
But, believe me. . . no amount of additional nights would make a difference. They would NEVER be used because we will NEVER go NEAR this "four-star" property again.
Stayed at The Fontaine for 3 nights. Hotel is stunning! Staff was very accommodating and hotel offers free cab vouchers within 5 miles of the hotel. Even though we had a rental car this was a bonus as we were attending the Keith Urban concert and didn’t want to mess with parking. Very centrally located. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in KC.
The Fontaine is a very chic, urban, upscale boutique hotel, with all amenities you'd ever want. Located just west of Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, it is a 7-story property with a definitely modern, upscale feel. The hotel boasts a very posh restaurant, bar and pool with a northwesterly view on the Seventh Floor. Definitely the place to be when the sun sets.
Guest rooms are very well adorned, and no amenities are spared. From super-heavy-duty coffee cups, to soothing lotions, shampoos and body washes, to a huge walk-in, rain shower, this is a place you'll enjoy sleeping at. Beds were very comfortable, as were pillows - so much so that we asked the front desk where the pillows could be purchased.
All in all, this IS a great place to stay, especially for a romantic weekend away. I highly suggest it. (This review also replaces my prior review concerning The Fontaine's honoring a gift certificate from its predecessor hotel - The Fontaine did in fact honor the gift certificate, and I am extremely grateful.)
I see all the reviews other guesses made. But in reality this Hotel is NOT exceptional by any means under the ownership. Started by the hotel not providing or had available the room that I booked so I had to settle for a downgrade.
We were shopping at the Plaza all day and when I got to our room at 5 PM we were surprise that our Room was not clean yet. We had to call housekeeping and they actually were rude like we were inconvenience them.....
I stayed in this hotel several times in the past but this time is my last one. NOT impress under the new management.
