Hey Jody Hall (GM - the Fontaine- who signs the generic e-mail I received), something is off at the Fontaine. I was a small but regular customer at the Fontaine and looked forward to my next visit which I reserved through your website. Upon my arrival at the hotel, I was told you had no more rooms. I didn’t cancel and even confirmed again on day of arrival! A higher paying group more important to you? If reservations mean nothing to you, you are in the wrong business The hotel that finally took care of us said this is a recent trend. I will never come back and will tell those who need to know .

Clean and beautiful hotel in a really nice area. The rooftop restaurant was really gorgeous, loved the jazz duo at Sunday brunch. Self parking was $20 in the garage, validate at the desk when you go out. Very nice overall, though I would say the service was more average for this level of hotel.

Just perfect for us

Even though we could only stay one night (on a road trip up north)... we really enjoyed the hotel. Staff was perfect... friendly and accommodating. Room was large with a comfy bed. BONUS POINTS for providing a cool Courtesy Car (first come first served basis) ... the new Tesla SAV...the one with the gull wing doors. We will likely stay again on our next stay in KC.

Do not book early and management doesn't care about repeat visitors

We had stayed at this hotel several times in the past couple of years for our wedding night, anniversary etc. With our last visit, we had booked early with a "special package" which ended up not being a special package and our rate was inflated. Do not book early with this hotel as they will lower rates. Their packages are not a deal. The restaurant has never had more than 5 individuals in them during 2 visits. Management does not respond to complaints or emails.

Good overall hotel; service needs some improvement

Positives:

1). Beautiful hotel with large guest rooms & bathrooms. Beds are comfortable.

2). Staff is polite - especially at the hotel bar. They were excellent.

3). Stellar bar with great drinks and the best bar nuts I've ever had ($7.00 order or $5.00 I believe during Happy Hour)

4). Nice looking pool (negative: closed in April)

Negatives:

1). Lackadaisical housekeeping: only decaf coffee stocked in room (no caffeinated coffee pods); after first night they only made one of the two beds (both had been used) - the second bed was left disheveled (I have never had this happen at any hotel I have stayed at).

2). Keycard issues; unable to unlock fitness center with my key. Had my card re-keyed and still unsuccessful. Had to have a staff member open it for us with their key. Then afterwards, couldn't get up to our floor to get back to the room. Had to have card re-keyed again.

3). Fitness center was horrible. Once we finally got in, tried to use bicycle machine and the foot strap on one of the feet were broken. Tried using the incline on both of the two treadmills; incline on both machines was broken. Tried to change the channels on the machine's screen as I didn't want to watch a documentary about an abduction/murder (that was playing on the screen) - all I could get it to change to was static (and remote didn't work). Fitness center is tiny; if you run on the treadmill the whole room echoes. Nearly one month after daylights savings time, the clock in the fitness center was still not updated to the correct time.

4). Called down to get car brought up through valet. Came down to lobby five minutes or so later; front desk clerk had to walkie talkie the valet guy when we got down there to tell him that a customer needed their car. She seemed embarrassed/frustrated that he hadn't gone to get it yet. He came out of a room down the hall and went to get the car. Once he got the car, he pulled up and did not put the car in neutral (I drive a stick shift). I think he must not drive manual cars very often.

5). I had a package sent to the hotel. Hotel never informed me of its arrival (full disclosure: I knew the package was coming and forgot to ask for it at the front desk. However, most hotels will notify you if you get a package... also sometimes you might be getting a gift package you aren't expecting and if so, you aren't going to ask for it). Positive result though: I called the hotel and they are forwarding it to me free of charge.

6). A couple of room issues. One of the lights in the room I couldn't get to turn off and had to unplug it. Secondly, the on/off valve for the shower was coming loose.

General observations: If you are looking for an upscale hotel in a nice neighborhood with a good bar/restaurant, can get a good rate, and don't mind some things not being "just so" this will fit the bill. I get the feeling that the hotel is letting some things slide. If you are looking for a hotel with a good "working" fitness center, I would stay elsewhere.
