How to Get There
We have been visiting Branson for years, and this is the nicest condo we have ever stayed in. We’ve stayed in SEVERAL timeshare type rentals, hotels and resorts in town over the years... so happy we found The Cliffs because we will be staying here the next time we visit! The beds and pillows were perfect in our 2 Bedroom 2 Bath in Building S. Loved the high ceilings, tall doors and huge windows! The view was beautiful and the area is very quiet. There is a Dollar General close by if you forget anything... or want to pick up a few groceries. You can see Silver Dollar City from your deck.
First, let me clarify that I am a business owner and recognize that you can't fix it if you don't know it's broken. If I don't care to help a business, I won't bother pointing out something that's wrong. I just won't do business with them again. All that follows was in an initial attempt to help this business get it right. Unfortunately, it has devolved into a situation where I will never darken their doorway again. They simply don't deserve my dollar and by this point, I'm pretty sure the feeling is mutual.
The unit we stayed in was quite nice - 2 bedroom penthouse. Plenty of room, well laid out and so on. That's about the only plus to our stay.
Upon check in, we immediately noticed a smell that I described as cleaning chemicals. My wife described it as musty/mildew. (She's probably right) In any event, it took an hour of airing the unit out in the very low temps of a December evening to get the odor to dissipate to a tolerable level.
During this time, I notified the front desk clerk that we had this problem and that if the airing out doesn't work, we'd need to relocate to another unit or move out. I asked about their refund policy in the event we had to leave under these circumstances. (Normally, there is no refund for any unused days) The clerk was not empowered to make these decisions and I requested that a manager call me. They told me a message would be left for a manager and they would call the next day.
The following morning, we left a few windows in the unit open and left for the day. Upon returning (after no call), we entered the unit and were still greeted with a bit of this odor in spite of airing out all day.
Back down to the office to express my dismay at not hearing from the manager. Once again, there was a distinct impression that the clerk was powerless to help and would leave a message.
The following morning, we notice that we missed a call at about 9PM along with a voicemail from a manager. The same manager called again that morning. It seems the initial message from the clerk didn't indicate I wanted a call regardless of the "airing out" procedure outcome. As I didn't let them know the airing out went sort of OK, there was no rush to call. After the 2nd clerk message, it was more apparent that I really wanted to talk with a manager.
This was where it went straight downhill. While I won't pretend to have been cheery and pleasant with either clerk, I was polite and to the point. The manager was on the offensive very quickly. It was obvious I was wasting my time. By the conclusion of the call, I told this person not to bother calling again.
A course in conflict resolution is my recommendation.
Our room had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with 2 balconies with excellent views of the lake. The carpet was a bit stained, but with so many people renting that maybe don't care I'm sure it's hard to keep up with. Our room had a fireplace and small kitchen suitable for some quick meals, plus a full refrigerator and table/chairs. No WiFi in the rooms but it is available at the main building free. There are docks available. The main building had a small indoor pool, games, movies, pool table, table tennis, couch and chairs. Relaxing stay. Maybe a half hour from Branson.
I will start with the pros. The location is great if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. There was a very pretty view of the mountains from our unit. The employees were polite in our interactions. The unit was a comfortable size for our family of 6. It was helpful having a washer and dryer.
The unit, however, had some very dirty aspects, the worst of which was a fresh blood stain on a pillow and a white crusty substance on the blanket of the guest room. There were stains that looked like coffee or soda on the throw pillows. There was also hair in the sheets of the guest bedroom, and hair throughout the master bathroom. A couple of pieces of trash and a sock were left behind from a previous guest. There were a few dead bugs throughout the room as well as a live decent-sized spider on the master bed when we first arrived.
One minor inconvenience is that we were not initially supplied with enough towels and washcloths. We were given 5 sets when our reservation was for 6, but the office staff was helpful and generous in giving extra towels, as well as switching out dirty towels for clean ones as needed. Bath soap, shampoo, and toilet paper supplies were stingy. We were supplied with a package of coffee, but no starter pack of sugar/creamer for our first morning.
The most critical issue was the lack of sleep that we got at this resort. Our first night there was fine. The second night, the people above us stomped around and dragged chairs across the floors until the wee hours of the morning. Additionally, they went onto their balcony several times from 1AM-5AM and howled like wolves and laughed repeatedly. The second night, they were doing what sounded like Karaoke and the stomping and chair dragging was completely out of control. I called the emergency number sometime after 11 PM, because my children kept being woken up. Josh answered and apologized for the inconvenience. He said he'd call and ask them to quiet down. They did not answer their phones, so my husband demanded that the police be called out. At this point it was close to midnight. The police came out and spoke to them. They lied to the police and said it was the unit above them on the night before, and "said" they'd quiet down. The police left sometime around 12:45 AM, and they continued to stomp around drag the chairs, as well as do something that sounded like dribbling a basketball until 2 AM. They were back up and at it again at 6 AM. On our final night there, the people quieted down around 11:30 PM. I suppose they finally wore themselves out. So much for the 10PM-8AM "Quiet Hours" contract that you sign at check-in. Basically, there is no support located on the premises after 8PM and there are no landlines in the rooms, so if you have an issue like this you're pretty much on your own.
I really wanted to like this place, but it was truly a disappointment.
I absolutely loved everything about this resort. It was a beautiful place to stay, both inside and out. Had a great view from your own balcony. I did adjust my dates to a less busy time and it was definitely worth it. The two bathrooms and two tv's were great! It looked like a fairly new building and everything was very clean. There is not a single thing I would change, a really wonderful stay. This was a one bedroom, kitchenette, and separate living area. So much nicer than a single hotel room but didn't cost any more, and away from the noise of Branson.
