On 75 rural acres just 90 minutes from NYC, this cozy inn offers pampering spa time and hearty farm-to-table dinners
On 75 rural acres alongside the Hudson River, the inn is a country charmer with all the modern trimmings. Shades of white, cream and taupe, wood floors and antique furniture define the Main House, where guests mingle for breakfast and afternoon tea (and reliable WiFi) every day. Settle into one of the rust-red leather sofas next to the roaring fire, or wander the lush grounds, which are filled with ponds, rustic outbuildings and the namesake falls.
Bed & Bath
Rooms and suites are spread across the 18th-century Main House and four free-standing guesthouses. On a cliff with river views, North Cottage is a charming two-bed stone and wood house with a cozy cottage feel. City slickers with more contemporary tastes, especially those traveling with a group, will prefer Riverbirch House for its sleek modern style, 5,000 square feet of space and setting in a grove of birch trees.
Just a few steps from the Main House, Henry’s Farm to Table Restaurant (closed on Monday and Tuesday) uses local ingredients on its inventive, ever changing menu. Nosh on local delicacies including a Hudson Valley Cattle Company strip steak with roasted butternut squash, or a selection of pizzas (the white sauce with apple and cheddar cheese is divine). A highlight of any stay is visiting the on-site Millstone Farm, which grows many of the organic fruits, vegetables and herbs used in the restaurant — I was instantly smitten by the resident doe-eyed alpacas. And for sybarites, the lovely spa focuses on natural and organic products. Try the Buttermilk Body Bliss, which uses Fiji cane sugar and drift nut oils to buff away dry skin, followed by a scalp massage with warm oils.
