Designer digs with a locavore restaurant in downtown Milan, within strolling distance of the Duomo and La Scala
Designed by lauded Milanese architecture studio Ara Associati, Starhotels Rosa Grand is a sleek sleep in Italy's fashion capital. Decked out with acres of marble, polished metal, parquet floors and plenty of gold accents, it manages to showcase typically Italian design elements without being ostentatious. Gold-glazed ceramic “flying disc” sculptures by Francesco Faravelli enliven the public spaces, and during the day the main entrance is flooded with natural light from a giant glass-encased courtyard. Open every day from 7am to 11 pm, the Wellness Center offers state-of- the-art equipment, Turkish bath and Solarium. Personal trainers (booking required) are available on request.
Bed and Bath
Dressed in muted tones with a hint of bling, the guestrooms feel spacious despite the square footage (Superior and Deluxe Rooms are 215 and 236 square feet, respectively). Parquet flooring (in Deluxe Rooms), light wood furniture and fresh flowers keep things light and bright, and creature comforts come in the form of pillow menus, goose down Starbeds and plush throws. Dressed in earthy and creamy tones, the marble bathrooms are a pleasure for the senses with cascade-style showers and chic Etro lotions, soaps and creams.
There are several wining and dining options, including Roses by Eataly, an intimate dining spot for typical Milanese fare (such as risotto with saffron and parmesan), Sfizio by Eataly for light bites overlooking the city's oldest fountain, in Piazza Fontana, and the Grand Bar & Lounge by Eataly for cocktails under striking chandeliers. Hit the bar at happy hour for a flute of prosecco served with pineapple and prosciutto skewers.
In the Area
The hotel sits in the shadow of the Duomo, Milan’s famous cathedral, and is a five-minute stroll from many of the city’s main attractions, including La Scala and Castello Sforzesco. If you feel like a meal outside the hotel, try famous Milano mainstays like Bice or Da Giacomo. Be sure to stop for an espresso and pastry at Sant’Ambroeus, and if the weather cooperates catch a sunset over the Duomo while sipping a cocktail at the rooftop bar above La Rinascente, an upscale eight-floor department store.
