How to Get There
Unique atmosphere. Located in the canyon. Amazing view. A lot of attractions. Nice spa. Service was helpful. Good hospitality. Great food. Room was wide clean Pool located up to the canyon. Infinity to the canyon. They have cinema at hotel. And many other things to do.
A beautifully designed hotel that blends in with the background so that you feel part of the desert.
Room elegant and well appointed - without being stuffy.
Open spaces beautiful and wonderful views of the crater.
Food and wine service very good. Wine quality very good. Food quality great - but they do need to be sure the hot food is hot......
The location of the hotel is amazing - overlooking the crater. The feel of the hotel is very zen, with massage type music playing throughout and the infinity pool overlooking the machtesh is wonderful. The breakfasts were fresh and delicious. It's lovely seeing all the ibex roaming around the property and there are some great hikes that are walk-able from the hotel. Now for a few areas that could use improvement. Many of the check in staff are trainees and it takes much too long to check in. They are also not too knowledgeable about the hotel and the area. We waited over half an hour for our luggage and when we called to check we were told they couldn't find it. After they took it out of the car they left in the lobby unattended and unidentified. Service at breakfast was extremely slow. Sometimes it took 20 minutes to get a cup of coffee. Instead of coming around with pitchers of coffee they made each cup individually, which sounds nice but is very impractical when you have a large crowd. Service at the pool was not much better. The guys working at the pool were not particularly friendly or helpful (for example when I was struggling to open an umbrella they just stood by watching) and it was very difficult to get drink service there. It was quicker to go to the bar yourself. Considering this is one of the top hotels in Israel I was a bit disappointed in the level of service. However, we still had a wonderful time and would definitely go back.
I stayed here 6 years ago and it was truly a 5 star hotel. While location and rooms are still beautiful, the cleanliness, upkeep and service are nowhere near 5 stars or the price they charge.
The room we received was not clean, dust on food shelf (see pictures), missing pillowcase cover and other small things that should have been checked before we received our room. Also the stairs leading to the room had a banister full of splinters.
The dining room service was very slow, an omelette took 30 minutes in morning, and coffee not much faster. In the evening I was served meat with aluminum foil (see picture) on it.
Together with this, I will probably come back in a few years, but with much lower expectations. It is in an amazing location, the rooms are beautifully designed and the whole place has a peaceful feel about it.
Maybe the management will get it's act together and not coast on previous reputation.
We'd heard great things about the luxury and beauty of this relatively new hotel. There are a lot of "apprentice" employees who are unable to answer simple questions. What we encountered on our 2 day stay:
(1) We were taken to our rooms by golf cart, and told our luggage would be delivered shortly. After a half hour and no luggage, we called the front desk who didn't know anything about it and said they would "send someone". After finally returning to the lobby, finding our bags still sitting there, we were able to get them to our rooms.
(2) Leaking toilet in our room left the floor around it wet. Called the front desk who said they would "send someone" who never arrived.
(3) I tried to get answers about accommodations, amenities, etc. in 2-3 emails prior to booking and received no response, so I went online and booked 2 standard rooms for what I assumed were standard rates. Upon check-in, I learned one was a standard room & the other a family villa - more than what we needed. I asked to change the villa to a standard room but was told we had to stick with what we booked, which cost more.
The views are breathtaking and overall the accommodations are beautiful, but the staff falls short of making it an incredible experience.
