How to Get There
We had a non-refundable reservation for March 8th, but we were not arriving until after midnight. We called the hotel the afternoon on the 8th to ask them to mark our reservation to show that we were arriving after midnight. The lady that answered the telephone at the Westin said our reservation was valid from 3 pm on the 8th through noon on the 9th and she did not need to mark our reservation.
We arrived at the Westin after 1 am. After a lengthy wait we were told that the hotel was oversold and that there were no rooms left. We were given a "complimentary" room at an off airport property.
Interesting that the flight crews checking in before and after us were given rooms. Apparently we didn't matter.
As an effort of customer service they had the valet walk us down to the shuttle area and he kept laughing about how the hotel was oversold.
After multiple calls to the off property Hotel they finally sent the shuttle. We got into our room after 2 a.m.
I hope my non-refundable reservation is refunded.
We always stay at this hotel when travelling especially in the winter. We have a two and a half hour drive plus a border crossing and cant take a chance of delays impacting us. The hotel is consistent in quality. I never hear any jets. Upgraded to the top floor due to my status as Lifetime Titanium Elite. The morning breakfast in the lounge is actually quite good and many choices. There are other comments that elite status is not mentioned on check in and that was true for us. I personally don't get upset by this. I did get an email after I arrived home from Stephanie recognising my status and that my business and loyalty is very important. The convenience and quality will keep me coming. I would like to make a comment about the hotel security access. Yes its convenient but what has been happening to me is i get very invasive searches every time; not a nice experience. As also noted by others the cost has risen significantly over that last year or two. As a result I used points.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Seriously, this is the perfect way to catch an early morning flight out of DTW. We live two hours north, so arriving the night before, getting a good sleep, and being able to walk right out to the gate was unbeatable. We even chose the valet parking so that on our return late at night, we could get the vehicle quickly. A couple of suggestions: 1) Realize that the security checkpoint in the hotel has a long line (with no TSA pre option), so either line up early (especially when the DTW tram is out of service) or do what we did--go outside and curb check the bags); and 2) Call the valet beforehand to avoid a wait for your car.
I can’t imagine treating one of our platinum passengers lesser than because their company paid for their ticket. It’s unbelievable to me that when I’ve stayed 75 nights a year at Marriott properties and because my company is paying for my room tonight I do not get any privileges of being Platinum elite.
Would never stay at this property on my own dime.
I have stayed at this hotel 31 times over the past 8 years. But this past time I was really impressed when Jeremy in security made it his mission to recover clothes I left in the closet. I received them thanks Jeremy for your extraordinary service.
