How to Get There
We traveled four hours in bad traffic to attend a wedding and stay here.
The woman at the front desk was so extremely rude that I could not believe it. Forget a welcoming spirit.... she was unprofessional, mean, sour and unwelcoming. We did nothing to deserve this.... we gave her our name, tried to be nice and told her that we were checking in. First impressions of a place come from the way one is treated upon arrival.
She could not have tried harder to ruin our stay. It was like she was “put out” to have to wait on us. If I was in management I would do extensive training with the front desk on how to treat people.
Travel is hard. People are tired from driving long distances. We were here to celebrate and our treatment upon arrival killed the happiness and excitement that we felt.
Her behavior was totally uncalled for. I would never go here again based upon the rudeness we encountered. We travel a great deal and have never been treated like this! Quite a shame that this was our first and final experience with this hotel because the rooms and housekeeping lady were lovely.
Attended a wedding at old St Marys on the river, 1 block from church. Close to Colony club reception also. Clean, comfortable rooms, great service. Shuttle service available every 15 min.. Valet service was perfect for parking car and ubering to venues.
We really enjoyed this hotel. The room was huge and beautiful. Pretty views. We had no problems with noise. We Hotwired our room and I don’t know that I’d pay $250 retail but out of all the places we have stayed in Detroit, this was our favorite so far. Super speedy check in. We really appreciated the shuttle. Self park in the garage across the street. We did eat at Fishbones downstairs and we didn’t love it. Pricey.
My absolutely favorite place to stay in detroit/greektown..wish I had more time to stay..always go to either lions tigers or red wings game when in town..nice quiet bar great service and steps away from casino..awesome
If you are looking for a hotel room with room to move around, The Atheneum is a good option. The room had a nicely sized living area. A down fall is the livingroom sofa was not a pull out and not a size where someone could comfortably sleep. The bathroom was very large, especially for a hotel bathroom. I did not care for the glass block wall in the shower that curved from the 'hall' area to the bedroom area.
Check in line on a Saturday was long and it was a bit difficult to figure where the line ended, however it did move at a decent pace. The check out line was equally as long, rather than wait I left the room keys behind on the security desk.
The biggest down fall was the very poor staffing of the hotel bar on a Saturday night, when the hotel was booked. It appeared there was no bar tender, just a hostess or server. At 11:45pm, 4 of us entered the bar and took a seat. Long story short, we were treated very poorly, specifically being told we may need to leave and go to the lobby. We were not permitted to take water or glasses to the room, I've never experienced that in any hotel. After ordering 4 waters and a glass of wine we only received 1 glass of wine.
Hotel rooms, thumbs up.
Hotel bar, thumbs down.
