How to Get There
Stayed for three nights with my husband who had never been to SOBE. Perfect location! Never have I met kinder people working at a hotel..from check-in, to the restaurant, to the room cleaners. Hotel is clean and well-appointed. Shower was a little small, but expected for Love that bikes and beach chairs are included (but take note, will need to pay $20 for an umbrella). Had two incredible meals at the restaurant downstairs. Pricey but worth it. They pay attention to the little details and it did not go unnoticed. Highly recommended hotel!
I booked this hotel because I wanted to be close to the beach and because the pictures showed a renovated hotel. The reviews were also good.
Upon arrival we were overwhelmed by the smell of food. The entire lobby smelled like scallops.
The rooms were a decent size, but it looked like the renovation was done a while ago. There were corrosion on the mirrors, the blinds had some stains, the dresser was OLD and the bottoms of the drawers were puffy from being wet. The bathroom had spots with mold...
We had breakfast at the restaurant of the hotel and it was pretty good, besides the coffee that was served warm/cold and they were unable to serve us hot coffee.
Other than that the staff was nice and very accommodating.
Yes, the building was built in the 30’s and sees a lot of wear and tear from beach/ocean proximity. The room was large – we used a Marriott upgrade to get an oceanview room and it was well worth it to watch the sun rise while doing yoga in the room! Even with a king bed, there’s plenty of space to move around, two easy chairs, a desk, refrigerator. Bed was a bit too hard for my liking. The nightstands have some shelf space, but wish they had the dresser in the room instead of in the closet. Closet is kind of small, as is the bathroom. Not much counter space in the bathroom, but there’s a large drawer and a slide out shelf that make it work. The windows are super thin, so if you’re here on a weekend and want an ocean view, be prepared for the street noise (people walking south beach) until 2am or so! We kept the tv on to deal with it, but it could be annoying to some. We did get some drinks one afternoon from the lobby bar and take them up to the roof - it's not a direct overlook to the beach, but you can see it from the side - but it's not a rooftop bar. Room was cleaned well, with towels replaced as we requested by leaving them on the floor. People talk about the staff here for a reason: they are so friendly and helpful, remember you and ask how everthing’s going, wanting to help make your stay even better. Valet does take a while – be prepared for 35+ minutes, or more if it’s a high traffic time (10am). One day it was over an hour! The traffic can also be prohibitive on the weekends, but if you're determined for South Beach, it's not any different than anywhere else. It's easy to walk to so many places, there's access to the park and boardwalk path right across the road, and a pretty good beach on the other side of the park. We would stay here again if we decide on South Beach.
Flying over to Argentina, so we spent about a day and a half in South Beach before taking and overnight flight to Argentina. We are Marriott rewards members and were able to book a night using our points. We wanted to stay in a nice hotel in South Beach so we could take in as much before we flew out that night. What a great boutique hotel that met our needs perfectly. Great location, wonderful staff and the room was excellent. Able to step out of the hotel and right into South Beach. One of meals was at the attached restaurant called Il Bolognese On Ocean, which we will do a separate review of, but was excellent. We had arrived early the day before and the hotel had a room available and allowed us to check in very early so we could explore the beach. Also since we had a late flight the following night, we were to get a late check out and they held our bags until we were ready to go to the airport
I will start by saying the staff made this hotel amazing! If they were not that wonderful I am not sure of the review I would give. Banbaro the bellman was AWESOME, friendly, joyful, helpful just great to see his smiling face every morning. He helped us get bikes out, took pictures with us. Just great. I give him alone a 20 on a scale of 1-10! The restaurant manager Leanella was also so wonderful. She does a great job. She also always welcomed us with a smile! And we always had great service. The front staff folks were always there to help they we so happy and helped each other out when things got busy. The morning and night bar tenders were also fabulous ... I did not get their names but we were there on the 8-11th. The location was great, the bikes were fun to take and just explore. The roof top was pitiful! A bar and pool up there would have been great but there was nothing but a few chairs. Now with all that being said the room cleaning service was poor. We had 4 people in our room and each day we were provided less and less towels to the point we had to go into the hall closet out selves and get our own towels. One day we had no wash clothes and only 1 body towel! The coffee was not refreshed and the champagne glasses from the day before not taken. Having the beach across the street was great getting a chair on the other hand was a struggle you had to wait in line and provide a name and room number glad to have 2 chairs but it did not come with an umbrella and the beach chair staff that is not affiliated with the hotel were rude. Although not Marriott staff you might want to think about who you affiliate with. Also, not being able to have cocktails on the beach was a let down.
