How to Get There
My husband and I very recently spent four nights here. Our room was spacious and clean. The balcony was huge and included and outdoor shower which confused us since we were on the third floor. The hotel housekeeping staff was second to none. They were friendly and did such a great job servicing the room. Most of the staff members we interacted with were also friendly. I just had difficulty with the prices in terms of the amenities that were offered. They charge $250 on your card per day for incidentals on top of the $40/day resort fee. The incidentals fee is refunded at the end of your stay if unused but it’s impossible not to spend at least that much per day. One morning we spent $90 on breakfast for two people with no alcohol. That was eggs, potatoes, toast and coffee. The food was good- but $90? Speaking of coffee- the free coffee included in the resort fee is from the coffee bar downstairs. We didn’t realize this until our last day. Order a regular coffee and it’s free! I would have opted for that instead of my $7 almond milk latte. Also, the Bliss spa was closed for renovations which was a total bummer since it rained a lot. A spa day would have been awesome when we were confined to inside. The lobby ran out of umbrellas every day. They gave you chairs at the beach but charged you if you needed an umbrella to block the sun. We enjoyed our stay there- it just felt like Ritz prices without the Ritz experience. If money is no object then this place is awesome! Well, it’s already awesome just hurts your travel budget a bit.
I took my kids here for 5 nights during springbreak (yeah wanted the kids to experience it at miami south beach before they are old enough to drink). Heard and read a lot about W south beach being a luxury hip hotel and were happy to finally got a chance to experience it. The hotel is right next to the beach with its own private section. The resort fee you pay everyday includes beach loungers so you can always get some sun while stay at the hotel. The hotel itself is pretty nice. Mostly fitting the hype and the hyped up price ;) we got an ocean view "suite" which is more like a studio with 1 king sized bed. the kids slept on the sofa lol otherwise I will have to pay $75 a night for a roll-away bed. The view is great on the balcony and we took a lot of pictures on it. The rooms are generally clean and well taken care of. The chairs outside on the balcony are so comfortable I can fall asleep on it. BUT there are some white stains on the cushions being outdoors; I am guessing sea gull poop stains. I didn't really want to think too much if it were something else... It's not too bad really once you got over it after taking in the view. To the hotel's credit I do see signs of attempt to remove it but some stains are just hard to clean. The cleaning crew is friendly and professional (what I have come to expect with hotels at W's level) The kids loved the chocolates they get at the tune down service every night. And the housekeeping ladies always leave extras when they see the kids :) thanks. We did eat at Mr Chow which is right next to and have a door connecting to the hotel but I am not sure if that's considered a hotel restaurant or not. Didn't eat in other hotel restaurants so I can't comment on those. We did get room service for breakfast couple of times but it's typical hotel room service, expensive but food is not bad. Used grubhub for some food delivery and it can get noisy at times even if we are pretty high up (15th floor) Don't think people have drag racing on the beach every night but it did sound like that most of the nights. There ARE a lot of luxury cars around so maybe people are just having fun during springbreak. I still remember when I was young so I will cut them some slack over the noise, Definitely not a problem of the hotel. The pool is nice if you don't want to get salty water on you or it's too cold (the pools are heated). The main pool is also usually crowded and noisy (my kids included in the bunch of screaming little monsters :D but god we love them right).
This is a memorable springbreak for the kids that have them talking about months after we came back. I am hoping it was a quality family time that they will remember for years to come. Great stay.
In general I am disappointed with the hotel. And the main problem is the attitude of the personnel. Security at the beach pool are just rude - they way they talk to people is simply unacceptable. Then the waiters in the restaurant - they are better than security but also not really happy to be there and are far from efficient. Then the guys at the concierge - these are semi-helpful and mainly disconnected from the conversation with you. The cleaning lady for example puts used coffee capsules back instead of bringing the new ones. Room cleaning often happens in late hours (after 2 pm). We had to wait for half an hour or more or the room though we arrived at 4 p.m. same was happening with all the other guests. The atmosphere of unfriendliness is in the air. Despite the fact that everyone is smiling at you.
Apart from that the hotel is good - rooms are spacious, location is great. A welcome card from the hotel director and the private concierge together with a bottle of wine was there. There are free bicycles to use, they change carpets in the elevators depending on which part of the day it is, the breakfast is good.
If the service is amended, this hotel would be a great place to stay. But today it is not the case
We went for a 'Staycation' this week and even after two years still a fantastic couple of days.
Our Elite Ambassador, Kesia, was a delight to work with. we had a minor issue and she was all over it and followed up with us regularly o make sure we were enjoying our stay.
As a matter of fact, all of the staff from check-in to pool service to valet were all super friendly and courteous, couldn't have been better.
The hotel upgraded us to a 2 bedroom corner suite which was much larger than we needed, but it was very comfortable with a full kitchenette and 2 full baths. The bedding was super comfortable and being basically a suite hotel makes this property very attractive.
We rented a poolside cabana for the 2 days we were there. if you're going in the summer months I highly recommend it. The fan in the cabana drops the temp a bit and during the 'fly by' rain showers it's a plus to be under cover ( and shade ).
We would usually go to the beach for a day, but if the winds are easterly, the seaweed can be an issue so we chose to stay poolside which was great.
Lunch by the pool is very good as well and the pool service staff couldn't be nicer.
All in all this is the hotel to stay at in SoBe if you are looking for a nice pool vibe, fantastic hospitality and service.
We arrived late at night and were greeted with smiles all around then checkin was fast. The room was large and excellent including a large private balcony, very spacious, plenty of plugs and USB points, and it had everything we needed.
We spent days on both the beach and at the pool. There were plenty of servers in both areas, lots of sunbeds as well, and everyone in the hotel went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. As an example, one day we left our key in the room and the hotel called security to take us to the room and check our ID upon entry - entirely what we would expect - the security guy was very friendly and chatty again making us feel welcomed.
This is a top class hotel with staff trained to the very highest standards.
