Awful attitude by the front desk person
Reviewed 17 hours ago

My partner and I recently stayed at this hotel. We originally thought that it was a great find - close to the beach and the Triathlon race that we were attending, plus close to bars, restaurants etc. We liked that the room was big enough for our bike and race kit, the room was clean and WIFI worked well. All good. We checked in about an hour earlier and the room wasn't ready, so the young lady on the front desk told us that we could leave our bags at Reception. When we asked about where we could store our expensive bike, she told us 'you can't leave it in Reception, you have to leave it outside in the terrace area'. We told her that the bike is worth $20,000 and no we are not leaving the bike outside unattended. She said that we didn't have any other options, and her attitude was that she didn't care one jot. So we had to wait one hour for the room to be ready as we obviously didn't want to leave the bike unattended outside.
We knew that the race finished close to when check out time was due on the Sunday, and we were told when we checked in at the official check in time (with a different person) that it should be possible to have a late check out, however to check with the person on the front desk on the check out day.

Fast forward 2 days, and the young person on the front desk on check in day was the same as the person on the front desk on check in. We asked for a late check out, and she said we could have until 1115am. I said 'that is only 15 mins extra as normal check out is 11am'. She said that is correct, she had 8 other check outs that morning and we couldn't even have until 12noon. I explained that my partner was at the race that morning and we weren't sure what time he would finish and get back to the hotel. She said we 'could have 11am or 1115am and not a minute longer'. Really?! That's great customer service for you. Are you telling me that 8 people are all checking out at 11am, and 8 sets of cleaners need access to your room at 11am to get it ready for the next guests? OF COURSE NOT.

Beware if you are leaving luggage at the front desk, it's not secure as this person clearly doesn't care if you leave an expensive bike or anything else.

So if you are staying at this hotel, I hope you don't get the young lady called Nathalie at the front desk when you check in or check out, or ask her anything that might be helpful to you such as one extra hour after check out. Because she should be in a different non customer facing role. It's such a shame that one person can spoil an otherwise a good hotel.

Great location and experience

Really liked hotel. Staff very helpful and nice, from restaurant recommendations to arranging transportation to airport. Small things needed repair in bathroom and water pressure in shower made it difficult to rinse hair - otherwise would have been a 5.

This property is not really central to South Beach - it is towards the very edge of the "tourist areas," with central South Beach being perhaps 6 blocks away. One strength is that it is only a few steps to one of the free circulator bus stops. The room was large, but a little shopworn. There was no temperature control - the thermostat could not be adjusted from my room. The room was humid, and swimsuits would not dry out overnight; there were traces of mold in the bathroom. A very limited breakfast is provided, and eaten on a very nice outdoor patio. Cereal, yogurt, and raw eggs are provided, together with hot water in which you can either soft or hard boil your own egg. Towels and chairs are provided that you can carry to the beach, which is perhaps four blocks away.

The inability to control temperature and humidity were, for me, major negatives. The price is good, but it is good for a reason.

Awesome hotel

My triathlon was delayed due to a death on the course. They understood and accommodated a very late checkout without issues. They stored my bike and went well above and beyond. I would only return here.
