It’s hard to miss the sex appeal of The Standard Spa, an oasis on a small South Florida island a 15-minute drive from the bustle of Ocean Drive. The hotel brings some retro Palm Springs style to Miami, with Midcentury Modern teak consoles and side tables, tufted midnight blue lounges and such natural touches as terrariums, potted trees and a driftwood console table.
Bed & Bath
The room decor at the Miami property is simple and more subtle than at the other Pop Art–inspired Standard hotels, with a serene sand and white palette accented with denim blue. Clean-lined, modern pieces mix with vintage campaign-style chairs and daybeds inspired by camp cots. Funky marble bathrooms have open showers with vintage chrome fixtures and custom organic products.
The Standard has vamped up the time-honored spa, combining up-to-the-second techniques with ancient massage traditions, from a Turkish hammam “Rub and Scrub” to a dip in the sound pool. Locals gather for Friday’s yoga events, combining classes with DJs and live musicians. Refuel on the sun-kissed, organic Mediterranean fare and biodynamic wines at the Lido Restaurant & Bayside Grill, and retox over drinks and ping-pong or film screenings at the hotel bar. There’s also an infinity pool and a shop with slick resortwear by Tucker, Lemlem, Haute Hippie and Mosely Tribes.
In the Area
The property is within striking distance of the South Beach action but removed from the late night fray. You’re entitled to indulge in some caloric bad behavior with chef Scott Conant’s fresh pastas at Scarpetta or bourbon and fried chicken at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar. SoBe’s Frank Gehry–designed New World Center makes high culture hip with a theater that transforms into a nightclub-style venue mixing electronica and classical music.
How to Get There
First let me say how beautiful and cozy this hotel is, but what really brings it all to life is the warm and friendly staff. It felt so welcoming from the moment we checked in. The front desk person made sure they answered any questions we had without seeming rushed or bothered (like when is yoga and what time does the juice cafe open etc).
Our room was beautiful and so cozy. The water pressure was amazing and we LOVED all the goodies in the room. The swing chairs were fabulous, and so was the fire pit.
We worked with Amanda (in sales) to reserve our room and she was not only super accommodating and efficient, she was so fun to talk with. Amanda was warm and enthusiastic, making my experience of the Standard already 5 star before I had even arrived at the hotel. She really kept her cool even when it seemed the Standard reservation system seemed to be having issues and she couldn't send us a confirmation. No worries there, she was always following up and when all systems were back up she sent us the confirmation immediately. She also always answered my call too and made us feel very special. Amanda is truly a gem for the Standard...hope they realize it!
The staff in general was really lovely. The hotel knows how to hire well. Also must say I LOVED the Hamam and got the BEST massage in the Spa. I bought bath salts to soak in the tub and a candle for the room that smelled magical.
The Standard is truly a retreat, you don't have to go anywhere for anything. They have everything you need right there....food, drinks, spa, juices...along with amazing rooms and the view is fabulous.
I love this place and can't wait to go back!

This review is way overdue. I went to The Standard to hit the reset button on my life and I have to say this place is truly magical. I was greeted by David upon arrival who not only made sure my room was ready but had the kindest soul. My tour with Taryn wasn’t generic. She has an amazing ability to read people and knew exactly what I needed. Milton at the pool always catered to everyone with a smile and Leone at the spa made my experience delightful. In short, all I can say is that I will absolutely return to this gorgeous oasis and that there is nothing standard about The Standard!
As a local I enjoy coming to The Standard to dine at the Lido and the occasional Sunday BBQ. This time I decided to treat myself to a 60 minute Standard massage. This was the best massage I've ever had. Thank you Fazli!
