It’s hard to miss the sex appeal of The Standard Spa, an oasis on a small South Florida island a 15-minute drive from the bustle of Ocean Drive. The hotel brings some retro Palm Springs style to Miami, with Midcentury Modern teak consoles and side tables, tufted midnight blue lounges and such natural touches as terrariums, potted trees and a driftwood console table.
Bed & Bath
The room decor at the Miami property is simple and more subtle than at the other Pop Art–inspired Standard hotels, with a serene sand and white palette accented with denim blue. Clean-lined, modern pieces mix with vintage campaign-style chairs and daybeds inspired by camp cots. Funky marble bathrooms have open showers with vintage chrome fixtures and custom organic products.
The Standard has vamped up the time-honored spa, combining up-to-the-second techniques with ancient massage traditions, from a Turkish hammam “Rub and Scrub” to a dip in the sound pool. Locals gather for Friday’s yoga events, combining classes with DJs and live musicians. Refuel on the sun-kissed, organic Mediterranean fare and biodynamic wines at the Lido Restaurant & Bayside Grill, and retox over drinks and ping-pong or film screenings at the hotel bar. There’s also an infinity pool and a shop with slick resortwear by Tucker, Lemlem, Haute Hippie and Mosely Tribes.
In the Area
The property is within striking distance of the South Beach action but removed from the late night fray. You’re entitled to indulge in some caloric bad behavior with chef Scott Conant’s fresh pastas at Scarpetta or bourbon and fried chicken at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar. SoBe’s Frank Gehry–designed New World Center makes high culture hip with a theater that transforms into a nightclub-style venue mixing electronica and classical music.
How to Get There
To start, the service from prebooking to departing was spectacular. I had help every moment of this trip- booking with Stephanie, checking in with Jorge, bag help from Rob, Jose at the pool. Everyone was loving and happy and truly welcoming to me and my large group of party ready women. The spa was amazing, and while pricey, a true value for services provided. Thank you Max and Juan! The coffee shop and sundries shop were amazing and exactly what you needed if you wanted to never venture off the property. This hotel seems like a 1950s revival, with thoughtful vegetation and perfectly designed to the mid century moment - but all clean, well cared for and thoughtful. The best part of the hotel is the adult only nature. It seems everyone is there for an adult mature time, and I appreciate this as a young mom looking for a break. Would 100% go back to stay, but also just to go spend time with the crew working this magical place — thank you for sharing it with us! Final notes: excellent food, drinks and vibes — so rare for a hotel these days.
Reception has undergone staff changes however the service excellence is unchanged. Thanks Teryn for always making feel part of the family. Jorge, Terence and new boy Josh and rest of team are still my favourite front desk in Miami. However the biggest thank you is to Vinnie who went the extra mile to make sure my stay was exceptional and gets me as a guest which not many others do.
House cleaning as usual pristine. Chris from sales thanks welcome touches in room on my arrival
Poolside (Weekdays) - HEAVENLY
The service here has improved hundred times. This for me was the best part of my stay. (Which never been in the past). I was able to chill out. The service was on point especially from Peterson and the servers who made sure I was always looked after. The other guests were the sort of guests I expect to see and mingle at the standard.
Unfortunately this is the Achilles heel of this hotel. Service since last time I stayed has again improved vastly
However food is hit or miss with incorrect orders and inconsistent food standards. After trying out the new London standard where the service and the food as set a very high benchmark in service excellence I am probably making an unfair comparison no doubt many will in the future.
The pool is full of nouveau riche day guests talking out of their proverbial backside. So chilling out was not really not an option (Some call that a vibe). I now prefer to avoid staying here at weekends. However weekday you can’t beat the best place to be in Miami.
Ideal hotel in Miami if you are not a Beach lover! I had fun and enjoyed the pool and the restaurant by the water. Rooms are spacious (larger ones at least). Was late to join a Sunday Part, next time I will check for special events!
Fantastic for couple’s get away since they don’t accept minors.
