It’s hard to miss the sex appeal of The Standard Spa, an oasis on a small South Florida island a 15-minute drive from the bustle of Ocean Drive. The hotel brings some retro Palm Springs style to Miami, with Midcentury Modern teak consoles and side tables, tufted midnight blue lounges and such natural touches as terrariums, potted trees and a driftwood console table.
Bed & Bath
The room decor at the Miami property is simple and more subtle than at the other Pop Art–inspired Standard hotels, with a serene sand and white palette accented with denim blue. Clean-lined, modern pieces mix with vintage campaign-style chairs and daybeds inspired by camp cots. Funky marble bathrooms have open showers with vintage chrome fixtures and custom organic products.
The Standard has vamped up the time-honored spa, combining up-to-the-second techniques with ancient massage traditions, from a Turkish hammam “Rub and Scrub” to a dip in the sound pool. Locals gather for Friday’s yoga events, combining classes with DJs and live musicians. Refuel on the sun-kissed, organic Mediterranean fare and biodynamic wines at the Lido Restaurant & Bayside Grill, and retox over drinks and ping-pong or film screenings at the hotel bar. There’s also an infinity pool and a shop with slick resortwear by Tucker, Lemlem, Haute Hippie and Mosely Tribes.
In the Area
The property is within striking distance of the South Beach action but removed from the late night fray. You’re entitled to indulge in some caloric bad behavior with chef Scott Conant’s fresh pastas at Scarpetta or bourbon and fried chicken at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar. SoBe’s Frank Gehry–designed New World Center makes high culture hip with a theater that transforms into a nightclub-style venue mixing electronica and classical music.
How to Get There
Stopped by for a visit to the pool and spa through a friend. Coming from hospitality and having a mutual connection to somebody at The Standard is always a plus. However, our visit was all the more special because of the manager, Oscar. He went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time ever. Oscar didn’t even know us upon first meeting but checked in with us multiple times, walked us to the spa and ensured we were well looked after. Our experience would not have been so wonderful had it not been for Oscar. Thank you!!
We had an incredible night at The Standard but the best part was the amazing service of Gabriel and José in the valet parking.
It makes all the difference when you get into a place and the service is impecable from the beginning ♥️
A girlfriend and I are both 6 months pregnant and spent a day relaxing by the pool - we had the best service and most perfect day. The mocktails were the best, as was the food (the living lasagne and avocado toast especially were great!) We thoroughly enjoyed lounging by the pool - we were treated the best by Liony Garcia who made the day extra special with accommodating 2 pregnant, tired, in need of a relaxing day moms to be! Thanks for a great visit!
Had a lovely afternoon lounging by the pool! Great views, quiet place, friendly staff, unique environment. The iced vanilla latte at the juice bar was amazing. Fried calamari by the pool is a must. No lack of entertainment and activities as there are many options available. Also saw a herd of manatees and a pod of dolphins from the dock.
The Standard Miami is heaven on earth. My solo zen stay was sensational and safe. Amazing. Quaint. Peaceful. But full of awesome activities. Like Pretty Woman poolside on the big screen. I didnt want to go to South Beach at all because everything was right there at the hotel. You must get a garden room. You must try the spa. You must stay here. A must. A must.
