It’s hard to miss the sex appeal of The Standard Spa, an oasis on a small South Florida island a 15-minute drive from the bustle of Ocean Drive. The hotel brings some retro Palm Springs style to Miami, with Midcentury Modern teak consoles and side tables, tufted midnight blue lounges and such natural touches as terrariums, potted trees and a driftwood console table.
Bed & Bath
The room decor at the Miami property is simple and more subtle than at the other Pop Art–inspired Standard hotels, with a serene sand and white palette accented with denim blue. Clean-lined, modern pieces mix with vintage campaign-style chairs and daybeds inspired by camp cots. Funky marble bathrooms have open showers with vintage chrome fixtures and custom organic products.
The Standard has vamped up the time-honored spa, combining up-to-the-second techniques with ancient massage traditions, from a Turkish hammam “Rub and Scrub” to a dip in the sound pool. Locals gather for Friday’s yoga events, combining classes with DJs and live musicians. Refuel on the sun-kissed, organic Mediterranean fare and biodynamic wines at the Lido Restaurant & Bayside Grill, and retox over drinks and ping-pong or film screenings at the hotel bar. There’s also an infinity pool and a shop with slick resortwear by Tucker, Lemlem, Haute Hippie and Mosely Tribes.
In the Area
The property is within striking distance of the South Beach action but removed from the late night fray. You’re entitled to indulge in some caloric bad behavior with chef Scott Conant’s fresh pastas at Scarpetta or bourbon and fried chicken at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar. SoBe’s Frank Gehry–designed New World Center makes high culture hip with a theater that transforms into a nightclub-style venue mixing electronica and classical music.
How to Get There
The Lido Bayside Grill was what mostly drew me to this hotel. Not only does it offer amazing views of the bay, but the staff is phenomenal. My server, Michael was very attentive and friendly. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great service with a smile. Amazing service. Maria, one of the managers came to my table and made sure that everything was ok and I could tell that she was very passionate about customer service! I absolutely recommend the breakfas here. The Avocado toast and eggs Benedict were the best I have ever eaten! 5 stars!!
Chris and Rebecca are so hospitable. They make me feel at home whenever I visit from freezing cold New York. The pool was heavenly and just the right temperature. I love the tater tots. Thank you guys! Amazing as always
Gabriel in the valet had the greatest customer service. Attended me promptly even though there was a line to get in. Was quick to receive my vehicle when I was ready to go and was very polite. The staff at the spa was not as accommodating seeing as they double booked and I had to wait a few hours. Karen took care of me in the spa and she was magnificent I felt leaving brand new.
Stopped by Standard to meet friends for a drink and dinner. Everything was great and food was delicious. Gabriel from valet was wonderful and friendly. I cant wait to go back. Its the perfect spot for a great Sunday
This spa was so accommodating and peaceful. One can truly feel that they are in completep control of their pleasure and needs. The staff was friendly and the the management really demonstrated that they cared and were concerned about the wellness of their patrons; especially Erin clark. She addressed our concerns and made sure that every need was addressed. Will definitely come back.
