It’s hard to miss the sex appeal of The Standard Spa, an oasis on a small South Florida island a 15-minute drive from the bustle of Ocean Drive. The hotel brings some retro Palm Springs style to Miami, with Midcentury Modern teak consoles and side tables, tufted midnight blue lounges and such natural touches as terrariums, potted trees and a driftwood console table.
Bed & Bath
The room decor at the Miami property is simple and more subtle than at the other Pop Art–inspired Standard hotels, with a serene sand and white palette accented with denim blue. Clean-lined, modern pieces mix with vintage campaign-style chairs and daybeds inspired by camp cots. Funky marble bathrooms have open showers with vintage chrome fixtures and custom organic products.
The Standard has vamped up the time-honored spa, combining up-to-the-second techniques with ancient massage traditions, from a Turkish hammam “Rub and Scrub” to a dip in the sound pool. Locals gather for Friday’s yoga events, combining classes with DJs and live musicians. Refuel on the sun-kissed, organic Mediterranean fare and biodynamic wines at the Lido Restaurant & Bayside Grill, and retox over drinks and ping-pong or film screenings at the hotel bar. There’s also an infinity pool and a shop with slick resortwear by Tucker, Lemlem, Haute Hippie and Mosely Tribes.
In the Area
The property is within striking distance of the South Beach action but removed from the late night fray. You’re entitled to indulge in some caloric bad behavior with chef Scott Conant’s fresh pastas at Scarpetta or bourbon and fried chicken at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar. SoBe’s Frank Gehry–designed New World Center makes high culture hip with a theater that transforms into a nightclub-style venue mixing electronica and classical music.
How to Get There
I decided to spend a 1 night, enjoying a great spa and pool day with my family. Chris Lizarraga went above and beyond ensuring everything I needed was done. It's so great to be in that environment, very relaxing, everything you need is right there, and such a great vibe.
Stayed at the Standard for a weekend in November with my husband. It was very expensive ($1,200 all in for 2 nights), but the property was great and honestly nicer rooms than some of the hotels on South Beach. The staff was super helpful and friendly which I appreciated. Also, they had some really great programming on premises (Yoga, crstal healing, pop-up shopping, fire pit etc.). The spa was awesome (and came in handy during a rainy day). Location is a short uber away from the main strip. Pool scene is awesome. Didn't find the restaurant food to be that great but wasn't that bothered by it.
Headed to Miami for a weekend away with a group of 20 and had THE BEST time. Chris Lizarraga (who leads group visits) was beyond accommodating and made sure our group was extremely well taken care of. The Standard has an amazing spa, incredible staff and service, and the best pool in Miami—book your trip now! We're already looking to book our next visit back.
