An eco-friendly oceanfront sanctuary in the heart of Miami Beach with a pool, spa and restaurant

The Look

Built in 1939 by renowned Art Deco architect Roy France, the 251-room Palms Hotel and Spa is an eco-friendly oasis that brings a Caribbean-vibe to the sands of Miami Beach. In 2009 the hotel underwent a full renovation, joined the Preferred Hotel & Resorts Group and saw the addition of the award-winning Essensia Restaurant and Lounge. The 3,000-square-foot lobby showcases high ceilings and grand columns, and has a safari vibe. Out back, the hotel is a quiet hideaway that spills out onto a stretch of soft ocean sand, highlighted by a jogging boardwalk that extends to trendy South Beach — just one mile away.

Bed and Bath

Spanning 12 floors, the guestrooms overlook the Miami cityscape, the Atlantic Ocean or the tropical garden and pool area, which overflows with bamboo, palm trees, orchids and two colorful parrots. The rooms and suites are done in calming sand-and-sea earth tones and are fitted with mod cons such as flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations, plush bathrobes and fully stocked minibars. With Sealy Posturepedic pillowtop mattresses, down comforters and Egyptian cotton sheets, the beds are so soft you feel as if you’re melting right into them. Showers and toilets are completely separate; they feature rainfall showers, mosaic glass tilework and Aveda bath products.

The Essensia Restaurant’s crescent shape and its lotus flower chandeliers give the space an exotic feel, while the seasonal menu uses locally grown ingredients, including some from chef Venoy Rogers III’s garden. The outdoor seating on the shaded patio is the perfect place to sip a specialty cocktail or discover an under-the-radar microbrew. There’s a tiki bar that serves drinks to those lounging by the heated pool or in one of the shaded hammocks. Private cabanas serve as additional treatment rooms for the 5,000-square-foot Aveda spa, and beverages, umbrellas and towel service are provided to guests relaxing on the beach.

In the Area

South Beach’s electrifying nightlife is just a few blocks from the hotel, and clubs like Set and Liv heat things up late into the night. For a taste of Latin culture, Mangos is the place to be on the weekends for dinner and dance shows, while Española Way offers salsa lessons. At the nearby Miami Beach Marina, scuba diving, boat rentals and deep sea fishing are offered. A short drive to the south, adventure seekers can soar like birds with Hang Glide Miami, a unique boat-towed hang-gliding operation that grants stunning views of the city. History and architecture lovers can admire the Renaissance-style Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, and the Miami Design District is home to numerous art galleries and high fashion emporia.

Been there for spring break week with our son. Overall a great place. Hotel room was recently refurbished and quite nice, just a bit small, but that wasn’t an issue. Pool and garden are really great and well maintained. The beach access is outstanding, the board walk out there equally. Only point to mention is that service can be a bit slow but staff is very friendly.
Hotel location requires a bit of walking to get to some decent restaurants.
Overall a very good choice, highly recommend!

This visit was our 5 time in Palms! Every time is absolutely perfect! Our best helper with everything around is hotel concierge Karina. She always manage our time for new restaurants( we are big gourmands), to do things and see always something new. etc. Her knowledge about Miami is beyond! Hotel is always nice clean, really like the new room update. Beach is beautiful, family and kids friendly. The garden and pool is is so pretty with all palms and flowers, is just paradise!!! We always also love to enjoy the hotel breakfast, buffet style, always something new on the menu. And I have to mention also young lady name Astasia( probably spelling wrong) she welcomes us always with big smile and warm words bc same like Karina they remember us. Thank you to all of you in hotel how you take care about guest!

Perfect Stay!

After having so issues in a hotel nearby, my friend and I decided to move to The Palms. The best choice I have ever made.
Everyone at The Palms made us feel welcome and at ease after our traumatic experience in a different hotel.
A massive thanks to Maynard (front desk), Rolando (front desk) and Fritz (house keeping) who made our experience at The Palms so much better.
The best place to stay in Miami Beach for sure!
Very nice rooms, clean and impeccable service.

beautiful property
Beachfront with direct access to boardwalk
North of the SoBe mayhem
Comfy beds
Delicious food at Essencia

18% gratuity keeps staff from stepping up their game (you can wait an hour with your drink flag up for a server on the beach)
Quiet, too quiet - no nightlife, no activities, no entertainment
Until it’s noisy...City side rooms are noisy with traffic and it’s easy to hear other guests in rooms next door
Bathrooms are tiny
Be prepared to spend a lot of extra $$. Drinks and food are pricey
Concierge was lame. Had no recommendations for a rainy day and didn’t offer to help us purchase tix online to a museum but suggested we might want to do that. Hadn’t heard of several of the restaurants I asked about that had come up as highly and frequently rated on yelp and other review sites.
Got in at 8:30 am and requested early check in. Nothing was available until close to 3:00 (1 hr before regular check in) and only one of our two rooms was available. Our kids ended up on a different floor. Not a big deal but just inconvenient.

Exceeded our expectations

This is a relatively small hotel with a lovely ambiance, great decor and friendly staff. It is located in a relatively quiet part of South Beach that boasts exclusivity. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days at the hotel. Special thanks to the amazing concierge Karina Jureko for planning the best use of our time, including places to visit and restaurants to try. She makes everyone feel special! Highly recommended.
