How to Get There
I was extremely skeptical at first since this is the first time I've stayed at a boutique hotel. I was contemplating between this property at the Shore Club or Confidante. I'm so happy I chose this property for multiple reasons: Clean, Comfortable, Location, Food, Ambiance, Security. Everything was top notch. The location is perfect - right across from the beach with amenities like beach chairs, towels & designated area to lounge, they have a restaurant and bar that is conveniently located at the front of the hotel. The room I received was spacious (fifties suite) and had surrounding windows which was amazing since I like breathing in the fresh ocean air in the morning when I'm on vacation ;) Lupe Castillo is by far one of the most responsible and caring managers - I didn't even get a chance to properly thank her for the upgrade which is why I've decided to leave this review! In addition, the artwork by Diesel throughout the property is beautiful. Included in your stay is 2 drinks at the bar per day - this will definitely get you started :) You also have 2 regular bottles of water along with sparkling water in your room every day. You'll also receive complimentary breakfast - this is where they got me. I do not appreciate buffet breakfasts since i think they are very messy and the food is lacking in flavor. The Pelican offers you one a la carte breakfast option per person from a short but sweet breakfast menu. All in all, I'd recommend staying at this hotel and if you're wondering what I'm used too it's 5 star hotels like the Confidante or the Mondrian in LA (not too say it's as fancy as these hotels but the cleanliness, location, and overall ambiance is something I appreciated)
Really enjoyed everything at the hotel during my 6 days stay Jan/feb 2019. Great location, nice rooms, helpful staff in reception, great restaurant with good breakfast included and the beach just across the street. Only minus was some noise from outside ventilators, but Will definitely consider staying at the Pelican again if returning to Miami.
Very quaint. Great service. Rooms are clean and right on the main strip. Happy hour was nice. Very retro. Wifi worked in room. Liked the towel and beach chair. Would definitely book this room again. Air conditioning worked well. If room isn’t ready they store it no problem. Food was very good and discounted if you stayed at the hotel. Uber was great from here to ship pier
Another reviewer stated that the Pelican Hotel is not for everybody, and I agree. However, there are enough good things to make this worthy of consideration for many travelers. The pros: 1) a super friendly and helpful staff (Wendell at the front desk was terrific!) 2) great location right in the heart of activity on Ocean Drive and just across the road from the beach 3) fully equipped bathroom (hair dryer, soaps and shampoos, nice fluffy towels) 4) there is a resort fee of $20, but you get the use of beach chairs, beach towels, and a glass of wine (or 2 mojitos) at happy hour 5) a good breakfast (choice of five items such as pancakes with fruit; two eggs with bacon, potatoes, and toast; or yogurt with granola and fruit). The cons: 1) it is an older building, so glitches are possible 2) rooms on the smallish side 3) no real lobby/public space. The rooms each have a "theme" and are decorated accordingly (which may not be some people's taste), hence the quirky ambiance. If you have a car, valet parking is offered for $25 a day. There is a restaurant downstairs with inside and outside seating (20% off for hotel guests). We enjoyed our stay at the Pelican, and the cost was very competitive considering the location, so I'd give this a thumbs up overall.
We spent a night there with our infant daughter. The front desk staff were lovely and friendly. Included in our night was 2 free mojitos - delicious. And the breakfast was included as well. Full hot breakfast! Our room was small but comfortable. They set up a pack n play for our daughter. Pleasantly surprised. Would definitely return!
