How to Get There
Fascinating place each room has a different theme. The food is excellent, large helpings and great quality. The free breakfast is out of this world. Free drinks at the bar. If you are fortunate enough to be checked in by Wendell you will find him extremely helpful in every way, he just can't do enough to make your stay comfortable.
We (my family) were walking down Ocean Dr. Looking for a cheap breakfast. The Pelican was not crowded early in the morning so we stopped there, we started out sitting outside by the sidewalk in the sun. My mom was in a wheelchair and the sun was beaming down on us it got too hot. We asked could we sit elsewhere the young workers looked confused, then we were RESCUED by this wonderful (older)gentleman who showed us the wheelchair access and sitting on the upper balcony he even moved the outdoor fan.Thats what I call service plus the food and coffee was delicious.THANKS for GREAT FOOD and GREAT SERVICE!!😁
This hotel is right on Ocean Drive which is the main drag in the South Beach area. It is in the middle of all of the Art Deco hotels that are pretty and interesting by day and even prettier by night. Each hotel is fronted by a restaurant/bar and clubs are plentiful and hopping late into the night. The Pelican was built in the 1940s. That is both cool and old. All the rooms have a theme. Our room was small by modern standards, but still adequate. There was a small walk in closet and a safe and refrigerator. As far as the old part is concerned, there was a leak from the ceiling over the shower area and the sink faucet dripped a little. Other than that it was nice. DEspite the loud clubs along the street our room was quiet. The hotel featured a happy hour from 4-6 where guests could each have two Mojitos. They were very good and they didn’t skimp on the alcohol. The restaurant in from of the hotel was also good. The drinks are expensive, but the food was reasonably priced and a great place to people watch. They also included a free breakfast for guests, but we had an early flight so we didn’t get to try it.
This hotel is close to shopping and night life and the beach. There is a resort fee but it covers water and lounge chairs on the beach and free breakfast and two free drinks. There are no curtains in the room we stayed in and some the blinds seemed a little flimsy but otherwise the beds were comfortable, and the room had the luxuries of a modern hotel with a funky design. (Sadly no coffee maker in the room). The WiFi never worked but the front desk manager visited our room personally to try and see what he could do. We had an issue with our remote as well but he also took care of that. The safe also did not work and maintenance needed to swap it out. The staff was extremely friendly. The bartender was AWESOME! Fantastic drinks and remembered what we ordered from the night before. I don’t usually stay at non chain hotels but this is a funky little hotel and I would come back. The air conditioner worked really well which was a relief being in Miami. So despite the minor issues that were all (except WiFi) resolved, it was a great stay.
The breakfast was very classy and included in our stay - not some cheap buffet but a nice sit down breakfast free. It was delicious food and the coffee was strong. We also were provided a half hour of extended check out at least.
I stayed at the Pelican over Memorial Day weekend and had a fabulous time. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast comes with the stay each morning and I appreciated 2 bottles of free water stocked in the fridge daily too. Wendell was there when I checked in late and made sure I was set. He checked in with me each day as well. The hotel provides a lounge chair at the beach--I spent hours enjoying South Beach in comfort. Thanks Pelican!
