How to Get There
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Pelican Hotel for our 6-year anniversary. We were aware that the location was prime for tourists, so we weren't expecting the such personalized service that we received at The Pelican.
The first day, Carlos helped us find restaurants in the area to find and was extremely helpful in getting around. Not to mention we are New Yorkers and so is he! So, that immediately made us more comfortable. Since there is a discount for guests at the hotel, we decided to eat at the hotel more than any other hotel on Ocean Drive. Consequently, Miguel Lara was our waiter for both lunch and dinner in the same day and was amazing. He's humorous, kind, and made sure we had everything we needed.
On our last day, we had the same waiter, Rafael, for lunch and dinner. Rafael was incredibly nice, especially when he found out it was our anniversary, and capped off the last night of the trip with great service!
The property is right on the beach, which is exactly what we wanted. The hotel room was spotless every day when we got back from the beach due to the exceptional maid service. All in all, the staff here is nice and the location was exactly what we needed! My girlfriend and I had an awesome time!
We stayed at the Pelican for 6 nights recently as part of a loner Florida vacation. We've stayed at Miami Beach before and , there's no doubt about it, staying on Ocean drive in an art deco hotel is the perfect location. The Pelican fits the bill exactly. Location couldn't be better.
The rooms are a little quirky and all individually themed. Ours was all based around vintage aircraft and flying. Various artefacts had been crafted into lamps, wall hangings etc. I love aircraft so suited us perfectly.Other rooms had different themes and the corridors reminded me of the 'Tower of Terror' ride at Disney - being a bit industrial chic. One thing you will sacrifice by staying on Ocean Drive (in older hotels) is space. The rooms aren't small but by modern standards they aren't spacious either. In our room the aircon was particularly noisy but, being at the rear of the property it was quiet otherwise.
All the older hotels on Ocean Drive have an all day restaurant/bar business. the Pelican is no exception but it's a little classier than some. I urge you to eat here. You get a discount as a hotel resident (which is well worth it as restaurant prices are high) but the food was genuinely good.
As a resident, you get breakfast and two cocktails a day included in your 'resort' fee. It's worth taking advantage as people watching from the hotel terrace is 'the' number one activity in South Beach. You also get complimentary beach towels and lounger BTW.
Parking is valet only. It's easy and efficient but not cheap. However - it's no more expensive than anywhere else.
Service levels were good but variable. We had the best service from the older members of staff at front of house but it was always ok - just a little inattentive sometimes.
Overall - it's a cool hotel with a little difference. It's in a prime location just near the News Cafe and a few yards from Mango's and the rest. If you come to party and people watch, you won't get a better base.
Our family had 2 rooms at the Pelican in November. The location is great and the service outstanding. We had to leave for a 6:30 AM tour and the manager got us packed breakfasts to take - definitely above and beyond. The rooms are uniquely decorated and larger than I had expected given the prime location. A little more storage space in the room e.g a dresser would have been helpful personally speaking but the bathrooms were excellent with plentiful hot water in the showers, not the economy showerheads in most chain hotels. The beds are nice and firm. Highly recommend for location and service.
I've stayed in Miami several times but this was my first time staying at a boutique hotel. The check-in process was quick, the staff was nice. This is the first hotel were the resort few didn't feel like a pure scam
They have a vendor that provide you with chairs on the beach and breakfast is provided. The location is amazing. Great hotel for couples or singles. I'll stay here again.
The food was amaizing. We had fish and pasta. Everything was superb! Andres, our server was kind, thoughtful, wonderful! Highly recommended if you’re looking for a great gastronomical experience in SOBE.
