Art Deco bones and a rock & roll soul — that’s the Marlin Hotel, located in the throbbing heart of Miami Beach. Built by beloved architect Laurence Murray Dixon in 1939, the Marlin stood for South Beach cool under record producer Chris Blackwell in the 1990s, and in 2015 it got a full refresh.
Bed and Bath
The 14 modern guestrooms are a tech geek’s playground, starting with the 55-inch LED screens behind wall mirrors. But it’s more fun to play with the built-in musical “moods”; whether you choose Relaxing, Urban or Pop, you can count on top-notch sound, thanks to the Tannoy surround system, with subwoofer. The look is ultra-minimalist, with a muted gray and white palette, clean-lined white and chrome furniture and abstract Technicolor paintings. Bathrooms have rainfall showers with sumptuous William Roam products and plush robes.
Chef Michael Pirolo is at the helm of Bází, the hotel’s Asian-inspired restaurant serving up innovative fare including duck udon soup, pecan-topped baby bok choy and eggplant kobra kai. Make sure to stop by the sleek, fashion-forward bar for a molecular gastronomy-style cocktail.
How to Get There
While we were only able to stay one night, we really enjoyed The Marlin Hotel. The location is great (1 block off Ocean) the room was quiet, even on a busy street during The Rolling Loud Music Festival and it was spacious, clean & well appointed.
First trip to Miami, 14th wedding anniversary with my wife. Having researched the area extensively, I decided on the Marlin. It was the perfect fit for the occasion. The hotel is very clean, very smartly decorated, and well staffed. From (early) check-in, the staff was always very pleasant and helpful. The property looks as good in person as online, chic/boutique/modern/tasteful. The room itself was large, bright, and had a cool/beach/modern vibe. The bathroom was very clean/modern. Bedding was very comfortable and the bathroom products very nice. Nespresso machine in the room was very much appreciated, and served as our first caffeine infusion before obligatory Cuban coffee on the street. Room was generally quiet, although some loud car noise was heard one night from the street. I think others would view this a some blight on the hotel- it was not- more of a momentary exception that would happen literally anywhere. Lounge/lobby bar was small but nice. Happy hour food and drinks were very good and reasonably priced for the area. Front patio for drinks and food was also a huge plus, right on Collins. The location was superior- on busy and interesting Collins, but off of crazy Ocean, 4 minute (and very enjoyable) walk to South Beach (right past the Versace Mansion). Walking distance to "clubs" (although we were there to relax), great/easy casual food nearby, easy/scenic walks to nicer restaurants, other hotel bars, etc. We had a rental car, and valet was efficient, easy, pleasant. Worth the cost, no doubt.
There really is only positive things to say about our stay. We had a great time, really enjoyed the property and its location, and would definitely return. Highly recommend.
Perfect and extra clean hotel in lovely south beach. This is what I can say about our stay in Marlin hotel-South beach Miami.
It was the exact hotel we were looking for in South Beach Miami...
Location is ideal, just one block from the beach and walking distance from numerous restaurants and shopping places.
Rooms are very clean and spacious. We stayed in a deluxe suite which was perfect and ideal for us and the two children.
Hotel stuff were very nice and helpful in every aspect. I would definitely stay in Marlin hotel again and would recommend it for anyone looking for the perfect stay in south beach.
Breakfast was great... was not the super buffet but was the essential breakfast you would look for.
We chose this hotel as it was off ocean drive but in South Beach where we really wanted to stay. The hotel staff are friendly and the rooms clean. Our room looked out onto a wall but as we were only there for a couple of nights and only planned to use it as a base didn’t bother us. Breakfast @$12 is pricey and very continental you’d be better off to go along ocean drive. We liked News Cafe. The free WiFi is very quick. There is a small bar but no real lounge and the bar doesn’t open till 5pm. If you are a smoker bear in mind that you can’t smoke on the seats outside after 5pm.
No one to talk to
One sheet per bed
No one to take your 3 heavy suitcases even if you want pay for it
TV: impossible to use Direct TV and do not expect anyone to answer the phone and explain how to use it.Bathroom is wonderful as well as the different soap provided. Well positioned on the coast but not on the beach as the map may suggest
It is located on Collins and 12th st.
