Art Deco bones and a rock & roll soul — that’s the Marlin Hotel, located in the throbbing heart of Miami Beach. Built by beloved architect Laurence Murray Dixon in 1939, the Marlin stood for South Beach cool under record producer Chris Blackwell in the 1990s, and in 2015 it got a full refresh.
Bed and Bath
The 14 modern guestrooms are a tech geek’s playground, starting with the 55-inch LED screens behind wall mirrors. But it’s more fun to play with the built-in musical “moods”; whether you choose Relaxing, Urban or Pop, you can count on top-notch sound, thanks to the Tannoy surround system, with subwoofer. The look is ultra-minimalist, with a muted gray and white palette, clean-lined white and chrome furniture and abstract Technicolor paintings. Bathrooms have rainfall showers with sumptuous William Roam products and plush robes.
Chef Michael Pirolo is at the helm of Bází, the hotel’s Asian-inspired restaurant serving up innovative fare including duck udon soup, pecan-topped baby bok choy and eggplant kobra kai. Make sure to stop by the sleek, fashion-forward bar for a molecular gastronomy-style cocktail.
How to Get There
Our 3 night stay prior to a March 1 cruise and post cruise one night stay were very enjoyable. The location is great, just a block from all the action on the beach strip, but is nevertheless surprisingly quiet.
The Art Deco building was spotlessly clean with well maintained lobby, elevator, hallways etc. Our large room was bright, well furnished and equipped and everything worked. It had a huge bathroom and shower, a very comfortable bed and loads of closet space.
We found the staff to be mostly courteous and accommodating, particularly Virginia on the front desk who during both our visits was extraordinarily helpful, bright and friendly.
The only negative, albeit a small one would be at the small buffet breakfast, included with our room rate. The portions laid out were very small and when they frequently ran out, the individual in charge seemed more interested in chatting with the kitchen staff than in replenishing coffee, fruit, bagels etc.
All in all a very pleasant stay which we'll repeat when in Miami again.
Perfec location, not too much noise, very clean.
Friendly staff,nice restaurant.
Clean room,perfect size.
The hotel is located near restaurant, store and one block from the fun places.
I will recomende to friends and familys
I want so much to give this hotel a 5 star. In the end my experience is a 5 star but the start of my stay was not. I was given a deluxe studio on the 2nd floor. The tv didn't work, the shower handle came off, the first iron I requested (not sure why it wasn't in my room) didn't work and I hated the bathroom door setup. Basically it is a glass sliding door that leaves an inch on either side (ie: no real seal on the door) so you can hear everything that goes on in the bathroom plus the bathroom lights up the entire room due to it's frosted glass window into the bedroom. Positives of this room was it was very quiet and I love the couch in the room and the size and set up of the room in general. After enough complaints we were moved to a corner suite. I would 100% give this room a 5 star and will only be staying in this room when visiting again. Although this room was smaller in size it has a real door to the bathroom and an amazing view of Collins ave. It is a little noisy at night but nothing a sound machine can't drown out. Love the double sinks in the bathroom and the amazing bath products.
Overall I loved this hotel in the end but the beginning was a rough start, my favorite things about this hotel are the amazing smell of the hallways, cold water in the lobby, staff in lobby at all times, motorized drapes (only in my 2nd room), sound proof rooms (but you can hear doors closing on your floor) and nespresso machine in the room.
Also do yourself a favor and eat dinner at the Italian restaurant downstairs, I would give that place 10 stars if I could, especially the staff. They also have an amazing happy hour from 5-7pm every day.
The location is great for exploring South Beach, and it's fun to stay in a true art deco gem. However, I suggest if you stay here to avoid room 106. It didn't matter what time of night or morning it was - the room was very loud. The room was over the bar and maybe kitchen, so maybe that's why we could hear a TV at all hours. Not to mention other couples enjoying themselves. We actually don't have much of a problem with ambient noise, but this was over the top. Earplugs recommended if you stay here.
The staff was nice. We enjoyed the restuarant and sitting on the front patio people watching.
Lovely team, service in a perfect location. Unfortunately no pool on the property though. We had room 310 - maybe request a room further away from the elevator as the sound of the elevator doors opening is quite loud. Otherwise perfectly equipped and stylish rooms/hotel.
