How to Get There
I was in Miami last week prior to a cruise. I arrived at the Epic, and was quickly checked in, and headed to my room. As luck would have it, I was right above the pretty loud pool party area. I went back down, and they had no problem switching me over to a city view room, that didn't have the incredible view, but was much quieter. The room was nice, and the bed was comfortable with nice pillows. They provided an array of soaps and lotions, and the bathroom was of great size as well. There was a free coffee station set up in the lobby the next morning, which was a bonus... I would definitely recommend...
I would recommend the Kimpton Epic hotel to all of my family and friends!! They have one of the most famous restaurants in the city, amazing balcony views overseeing the bay, a beautiful pool lounge area equipped with a bar and excellent service. Sergio, Gisselle, Kelly, Zagala, Jose, Santino, and Juan are an amazing staff! They are on point and work as a team to fit your needs! Again highly recommend!
I'm an IHG Spire Inner Circle Member; I spend a lot of nights at hotels (many of them at Kimptons). My comments are going to focus on some of the benefits afforded members with similar status.
My wife and I had a one-night stay recently. Our Premier King (Points Award) room was upgraded to an EPIC 29 Junior Suite and we very much enjoyed the extra room and spectacular bathroom. As the name suggests, the suite was located on the 29th floor and had a nice view of the Miami River along with the pool deck on the 16th floor. To the distance we could see Marlins Park in LIttle Havana and MIA Airport. We found the living area to be very spacious and overall, the decor was very modern and chic. The bed was comfortable with very plush linens (kudos to the property for having hypo-allergenic pillows that are still plush and supportive). There was a small balcony adjacent to the bedroom but it was too hot and muggy to linger out there, The bathroom was huge with a dual sink vanity, shower stall and separate spa tub. The overall noise was very quiet except for a few heavy planes departing from MIA that passed over us.
Note that there is an executive lounge on the 29th floor and while it is layed out like a regular hotel lounge, it is not staffed or stocked as one. Basically, it is a large room with tables, a balcony, a restroom, and a Nespresso machine. You need to use a room key to access it.
Now, on to the delivery of Inner Circle benefits. The room upgrade was, of course, provided and much appreciated. The personalized amenity was, sadly, underwhelming and mediocre. Most Kimptons will personalize the amenity and have it provided in the room. Mine was not present so I mentioned it to the Front Desk; about 15 minutes later, two bottles of San Pellegrino and a chocolate bar was delivered. My sense was that they forgot to prepare an amenity and scrambled to get something to us. A local newspaper was delivered to us at the time promised.
We had dinner with family and guests at Area31, the restaurant on site. This was a mixed bag; mostly good (service and portions) with some lesser things (due to construction, we seemed to be seated in a temporary space, dishes served seemed to be missing ingredients listed on the menu). The complimentary Inner Circle Chef's Taste served to use was the same goat cheese puffs that was served during wine hour. Like the amenity, it was pretty mediocre.
Overall, this is a very nice hotel with great rooms and an overall modern and chic vibe. Pluses are good IHG elite recognition, friendly staff, fresh decor, and nice location away from the crowds of South Beach. Some negatives would be that outside of the immediate area, the business district gets pretty sketchy at night and there's not a lot to see. The wait for a car from the valets averaged 15 minutes or so; as suggested by the valets, one should call or text for one's car well in advance. There's some construction going on at the hotel but other than some noise at the entrance, it wasn't intrusive. Finally, for Inner Circle members, I found that the welcome amenity and food at restaurant was not up to par with other Kimptons.
Now that this property is IHG, I will be saying goodbye to the InterContinental Miami. This property is superior in everyway. I recently stayed in room 3002 and was completely blown away by the welcome, room and overall stay. Immediately recognised as a Spire Elite member, given a top floor room with the most amazing view ever! Welcome bottle of Prosecco and cookies were an added treat.
The bathroom was also extremely impressive with quality amenities, a great powerful shower and huge tub. Everything about the room seemed very high quality and I honestly didn't want to leave. The pools were also huge and clean. I thoroughly enjoyed them. Anytime I return to the downtown Miami Area, this will be my #1 spot to stay, hands down!
Thank you for the EPIC stay!
From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the staff they were very professional and courteous. The young lady at the front desk greeted us with a smile she was very knowledgeable and advised us on everything the hotel had to offer. Her name is Carina Boney. I will never forget this stay, I really must say I didn’t want to leave. I will surely be returning in the very near future. It was my husbands birthday and he really enjoyed himself. Thanks Ms. Carina Boney and staff.
