Boutique Art Deco hotel in the heart of Miami’s South Beach nightlife scene

The Lowdown

Just steps from the sand and surrounded by South Beach’s hottest nightlife, this 99-room Art Deco–era property has a modern, artistic look. Guest rooms are a minimum of 350 square feet and feature iPod dock stations, Keurig coffeemakers, plush bathrobes, flat-screen televisions, and rainfall showers. The trendy décor blends colorful patterns with futuristic furniture. For relaxation, a rooftop terrace offers shaded lounge chairs and views of the bustling scene, and the glassed-walled plunge pool offers another spot to unwind. Towels are provided to guests lounging at the beach, and there’s live music in the evening at the hotel’s seafood restaurant and bar.

In the Area

Just next door to the property is the iconic Mangos Tropical Café, a sizzling restaurant with nightly shows that feature belly dancers, conga and samba. Free bicycles are included in the resort fee, and a short ride will take you to Nikki Beach, a landmark beach club and cabana bar that’s perfect for Sunday brunch followed by lounging in the sun. Miami also has an underwater playground, so scuba divers can explore numerous coral reefs, shipwrecks and the unique — but slightly creepy — Neptune Memorial Reef (an underwater cemetery). There’s also sailing, kayaking, hang-gliding, windsurfing, and an array of other water sports. For a fabulous dinner and creative cocktails, head to the Bazaar by José Andrés for unforgettable tapas and indoor/outdoor dining.

Great stay & nice location
Reviewed 3 days ago

This hotel is in a perfect location. Mid ocean avenue, right across the street from the beach.
The front desk staff were amazing. Any issues that came up were addressed quickly by Dana & Chundavi. Initially, we were staying on the first floor. In the morning it was a little noisy due to the door slamming when the cleaners went in and out. Chundavi immediately changed our room to the fourth floor and there was no noise and the room was beautiful for South Beach. The manager Ali was also helpful with issues that came up and was very personable. Pablo also helped with our luggage and beach supplies we needed. Overall, we never heard no and we had a great stay.
We also didn’t hear any noise from music in our room as other people complained about. The first night we were on the first floor closest to the front of the hotel.

Thanks for a great stay!

5 Stars with a But
Reviewed 3 days ago

I enjoyed my quick one night stay at Hotel Breakwater South. The price was right; the location is fantastic if you want to be on the beach & in the middle of all the South Beach action. My room was large, clean and had a decent shower.

The staff were also friendly. I’ve stayed at several SB hotels and the staff are zombies and snots.

I’m giving it 5 stars for me because I like being in the heart of the action.

My But: My room faced the DJ booth, with music pumping into my room late into the night. I don’t mind noise like this so it was not a big deal. IF you are looking for a quiet quaint hotel, this is not for you! IF you enjoy being right on the action, go for it!

Check out Breakwater!! Ideal location & so accommodating!

Upon arriving to check out time it was all done with such ease and professionalism. Management was phenomenal, staff was friendly, and the rooms were clean and perfect for our stay! This hotel is literally in the center of everything and you cannot go wrong with staying here or visiting their restaurant (awesome food!). We needed extra towels and called front desk and they were knocking on the door within seconds!

This will be my go-to hotel for my future Miami visits!!!! Thank you Ali for making our stay fun, relaxing, and memorable!!!

Private Rooftop Pool! Excellent Staff! Prime Location!

If the penthouse with the private rooftop pool is available, get it! You won’t be disappointed! We started our mornings and ended our nights in the private pool overlooking the beach. Awesome! The rooms are spacious and the manager Ali and Samantha at the front desk went above and beyond our needs. Excellent customer service! Will definitely stay again!

Great location, weird staff

Room was nice enough, although a bit agitated that my travel card wouldnt be accepted for payment (even though it was used to reserve the room). Put me in a bit of a bind, and security deposit is taking forever to be refunded.
Definitely a great location, but the loud music all night is only for a certain demographic! Wouldnt say the front desk staff were fantastic, and definitely avoid the hotels restaurant (miserable service).
Having to get to the room through the ice cream shop was kinda fun (although weird when it was closed!!).
