Boutique Art Deco hotel in the heart of Miami’s South Beach nightlife scene

The Lowdown

Just steps from the sand and surrounded by South Beach’s hottest nightlife, this 99-room Art Deco–era property has a modern, artistic look. Guest rooms are a minimum of 350 square feet and feature iPod dock stations, Keurig coffeemakers, plush bathrobes, flat-screen televisions, and rainfall showers. The trendy décor blends colorful patterns with futuristic furniture. For relaxation, a rooftop terrace offers shaded lounge chairs and views of the bustling scene, and the glassed-walled plunge pool offers another spot to unwind. Towels are provided to guests lounging at the beach, and there’s live music in the evening at the hotel’s seafood restaurant and bar.

In the Area

Just next door to the property is the iconic Mangos Tropical Café, a sizzling restaurant with nightly shows that feature belly dancers, conga and samba. Free bicycles are included in the resort fee, and a short ride will take you to Nikki Beach, a landmark beach club and cabana bar that’s perfect for Sunday brunch followed by lounging in the sun. Miami also has an underwater playground, so scuba divers can explore numerous coral reefs, shipwrecks and the unique — but slightly creepy — Neptune Memorial Reef (an underwater cemetery). There’s also sailing, kayaking, hang-gliding, windsurfing, and an array of other water sports. For a fabulous dinner and creative cocktails, head to the Bazaar by José Andrés for unforgettable tapas and indoor/outdoor dining.

Mediocre-you can get something better elsewhere
Reviewed 5 days ago

Noise level (DJ in front in an open-air bar from noon to 4 a.m.) is so obnoxious and loud that I had to wear noise-cancelling headphones at night. And at the restaurant in front, service was crappy (they automatically charge a 20% tip which is totally not earned!), drinks were ridiculously weak, and when I paid my bill for $41.62 with 2 $20’s and 1 $10, I got a $5 bill and 3 $1 bills—I am pretty good at math, and knew that they had short-changed me; not by a lot ($0.38), but when I asked where the rest of my change was, the manager was offended, and only when I “pushed” him did he begrudgingly give me my remaining change. He must be taking those nickels and dimes home every night. You can find many nicer, quieter hotels in the area. Avoid this one!

Rude, Unprofessional, Dirty - Overall bad experience

We prepaid for the room for $300+ nearly a month in advance. We also added the several other people staying in the suite with us to the reservation. The day of the trip my flight was delayed until nearly midnight and the though the room was prepaid completely and the fact that one of your employees "Angelica" told us we could have one of the others get into the hotel they denied the people when they got there. To add to this your website never said that it was "Pride day" and that your hotel would be blasting music until 4am. Seriously we couldn't believe this. How are you going to not tell guests this before they arrive. We had a cruise to show up to the next day and we barely got 2 hours of sleep because of this. Lastly the the room was super dirty with stains on the bed and filth all over the floor. When we brought it up to staff they were rude and did nothing about it. All of these things together made for an awful experience and I will not recommend you to anyone.

Geat rooms - terrible service

Firstly this isn't the hotel for you if you're looking for peace and quiet as the hotel is placed above a nightclub and the music starts from mid-day to 4am - we were aware of this so it wasn't a huge problem.
We were placed in part of the hotel where once checking in, you had to walk through reception, the nightclub, a restaurant, ice cream shop to get to the lifts - a little inconvenient and weird. The lifts were broken on the day we got there (once opened up to find water trickling from the top of the lift like its raining in it) my sister then got stuck in another lift also which was a scary experience for her. Climbing to the 4th floor back and forth also got a little restless. The windows didn't open, so upon request they changed our room to the main part of the hotel. no one came to help with our bags or carry them down the stairs. the staff were rude, unresponsive and passive aggressive.
We made a rookie mistake of not tipping Christopher on arrival who showed us to the lifts (not to our room) as we didn't have cash on us upon landing and its easy to forget if you're from the UK, he was then rude and continued to give us bad looks every time we bumped into him, we figured this was because we didn't tip.
Our main light broke in the room, it took the hotel 1,5 hour to send someone up, so we sat in the dark.
on a positive note; the rooms are large, huge beds, big bathrooms, nice towels, it was good to be provided with beach towels and hotel is on a great location if you want to be in the hussle bussle of it all.

Plastic mattress cover, house keeping changed sheets once in 4 days, loud music until 4AM every night, broken furniture, elevator didn’t work, pool was filthy, front desk was rude, thought it was a 4 star but really a 2 star at best. Total rip.

Winter blues getaway!

Breakwater was an awesome hotel. The location was close to everything. Hotel staff was very helpful and accommodating. The roof top pool was a plus in the evening when getting away from the crowds. I look forward to booking the Hotel Breakwater again next spring.
