Classic Miami glitz greets guests at this newly renovated, 75-year-old Art Deco boutique hotel, ideally situated on Ocean Drive. The palm tree–fronted all-white façade leads to a bold palette in the guestrooms of turquoise, orange-red or chartreuse, all set off by tufted white headboards and bright white furniture and linens. Pamper yourself with Pascal Morabito bath products and fluffy bathrobes (but be warned: The frosted glass bathroom doors are not for the modest). Fill up at the generous (and free) hot American buffet breakfast — eggs and sausages, as well as the usual muffins and cereals, are on offer — before grabbing a free beach chair and towel and walking across the street to the ocean. Take a break from the sun for a midday mojito at on-site bar and grill the Place (Hurricanes, Planter’s Punches and Sex on the Beaches are on the beachy cocktail menu), or make the seafood-focused joint your dinner destination. Start with coco-crusted shrimp with sweet chili sauce or calamari tempura with miso aioli before moving on to such main courses as panko-crusted scallops and Florida lobster tail with truffle mashed potatoes.
In the Area
A prime Ocean Drive location puts you within striking distance of South Beach’s charms. Sun worshipers can walk right across the street to the beach (the hotel supplies chairs and towels) to people-watch and work on their tans, while cultural types can check out the Art Deco Historic District. The nation’s largest such zone consists of some 700 buildings built between 1933 and 1949; book a guided tour through the Art Deco Welcome Center. Stock up on party attire along Washington Avenue, where you’ll find a mix of vintage shops and clubwear, or blow your budget on Collins Avenue, home to Kenneth Cole, Armani and Versace, among others. By night take in Ocean Drive’s iconic neon lights before letting loose at SoBe’s famed club scene; you can join the waterfront party at Nikki Beach or spy on celebs at Mansion (Jeremy Piven and Ne-Yo have been spotted here). To escape the tourist bustle, consider a daytrip to the Everglades; the 1.5 million–acre national park is home to bald eagles and panthers. Or visit Coral Gables’ Fairchild Tropical Garden, the largest tropical botanical garden in the U.S.
How to Get There
Stayed at this hotel for one night after getting off a cruise. The room we had was right at the back of the building and had a very strong smell of smoke in it. It was very dingy and dark. Bathroom was also very small. Glad we only stayed one night otherwise I would have found alternative accommodation. The location is good - about the best part of it. Needs some serious money spent on it. Wish we had stayed at The Mondrian where we stayed when we last came to Miami. A lot nicer hotels to stay in around that area
Great location, good price, clean room, friendly staff. Free breakfast was ok, but lacked decent fruit. Towels and beach chairs provided and just across from the beach. At the end of the “strip” so pretty quiet. Very enjoyable stay!!
My wife and I really enjoyed this hotel in the heart of South Beach. The building is a little old (appropriate for the area) but furnishings are modern. The staff really makes this place shine, Agustin and Matthew at the front desk were always welcoming friendly faces with great recommendations for the area. The room was big and clean, the bathroom was a little small (again, appropriate for the time of construction) and the bed was comfortable. Would recommend for anyone staying in South Beach and who wants to avoid the big resort style hotels.
My wife & I who are in our late 40s stayed a this hotel for 1 night 21st of January
We wher charged $375 for 1 night plus $100 SECURITY DEPOSIT
We don't drink and where in bed at 8 pm tired from the flight
The hotel has not returned our security deposit & will not answer emails or will put you onto an answer phone when you ring
Despit the high price of this hotel it is a crumbling 2 star at best
I recommend you stay at the marriott airport Hotel because this hotel is a run-down dump
we recently stayed here for 3 nights as part of a bigger holiday tour .. great surprise to find an art deco weekend taking place .. what is good about this holiday is the front desk staff they really go out of their way to help with tips and advice for the stay and always with fantastic banter .. directly over the road from the beach which has a fantastic sunrise and is a really good early morning walk .. the room we had was a good size with a very comfortable bed, as per other reviews the bathrooms really are small and the sink tap a bit of a hazard when my partner was having a shave .. there are bits of tiding up in the rooms that needs to be done and again it was mainly the bathroom and windows during our stay .. and the complementary breakfast is very basic so dont expect full continental etc .. but this would not put us off from staying here again .. lovely stay, ideal location and staff that go the extra mile
