A central SoBe stay at a recently renovated 1930s gem on Ocean Drive, just steps from the beach
If you really want a sense of Miami’s Art Deco legacy, don’t simply visit the Deco District – stay in one of its original 1930s hotels. Stepping into Cavalier South Beach is as close as you’ll come to stepping into Miami history, with its fabulous neon-bathed, palm-fringed stucco façade and vintage-inspired interiors. The new redesign may not have been around back in the city’s Golden Age, but the views of the Atlantic from its outdoor patio have hardly changed at all. In other parts of the property, you’ll also find terrazzo flooring and nautical touches, both original to the 1936 design.
If you want a sense of the Miami today, you only have to step out of Cavalier – you couldn’t be more in-the-middle-of-it-all if you tried. You’re on Ocean Drive, after all, which means that along with the beach being right across the street, the most popular restaurants, boutiques, bars and clubs surround you in every other direction. Dine on sushi at the Lincoln Road Mall, sip a mojito at a lounge on Collins Avenue, and go dancing to the tunes of the DJ of the moment at the hottest club in town.

Rooms are mostly contemporary, with Deco touches here and there; many feature exposed brick, and all beds are dressed in Egyptian-cotton linens. You’ll have a Smart TV with all the major channels, and in your marble bathroom, chrome fixtures, a rain shower and C.O. Bigelow bath amenities. Classic King rooms and Deluxe Double rooms are both the hotel's standard category; the difference is in their bedding configurations (one king bed or two double beds, respectively). Deluxe Ocean View King rooms are located in the front corners of the building, boasting views of the Atlantic.
You’re on famed Ocean Drive, within South Beach’s Art Deco District. This area of Miami is vibrant and eclectic, with whimsical pastel Art Deco buildings and the palm-tree-lined Lummus Park Promenade. Walk to the beach – it’s directly across the street from the hotel – and to the boutiques of Collins Avenue and Lincoln Road, for some unbeatable designer shopping. When the sun goes down, don your most club-friendly duds, and take to the many buzzing nightspots in town.
