Polished contemporary sleep in the heart of Mendoza, with stellar restaurants and bars, a casino, and a spa
Spread over the foothills and high plains of the Andes Mountains, the northern Argentine city of Mendoza is a favorite with tourists of both the active and foodie varieties, thanks to its easy access to hiking, horseback riding and skiing, plus some of the best vineyards in the country. In a central location on Plaza de la Independencia, the Park Hyatt is arguably the smartest hotel in town, and a go-to base for active (often American) travelers.
Bed and Bath
While the beautifully restored white façade is 19th-century Spanish Colonial to a tee, the interiors are strictly contemporary. Guestrooms are done up with crisp-sheeted platform beds (Kings or Twins), curved glass desks and modern bathrooms decked out with lots of glass and mirror. Bath and body products come courtesy of the hotel’s Kaua Club and Spa, where the treatments incorporate such local ingredients as wine, grapes and olives.
Just off the main entrance, Bistro M serves a tasty breakfast buffet from its open kitchen, while Las Terraza café is popular for alfresco drinks and snacks. The two-story reception atrium has a centerpiece glass wall overlooking the furnished courtyard of the hotel’s traditional Argentine grill restaurant, Q. (You’ll want at least two orders of the empanadas here.) At the very back of the ground-floor space, a door leads to the Regency Casino Mendoza, where you can try your luck at the slots or 22 gaming tables until 6 in the morning. Mendoza’s sunny, dry weather makes the small outdoor pool a popular place, and you can work off all the gourmet indulgences in the decent gym, which looks out at the pedestrians strolling Avenue Sarmiento.
