How to Get There
My wife and I just returned from a weekend getaway at Glendeven. This is the fourth consecutive year we have visited The Inn and Mendocino and we look forward to our next visit as soon as we leave.
John, Sally, et.al. do an excellent job in every aspect of hospitality. The rooms are all very comfortable and breakfast is a treat not to be missed. The grounds are beautiful, there is a great beach just down the road and Mendocino is two miles away.
Book that stay with complete confidence.
We stayed in the Carriage House Suite for our 4-year wedding anniversary for 2 nights. The room was huge, as well as gorgeous and unique. The bed was comfortable, the wifi worked well, the bathroom was nice, but mostly what made it special was the character of the place. There were 2 fireplaces inside, and some cute reading nooks. And from the balcony you could always see bluejays feeding at the bird feeders.
Outside you could feed chickens and walk in a pasture with llamas and the most spectacular ocean view. There was a gourmet breakfast brought to us each morning, and there were always cookies and brandy in the tea room. Wine hour was a wonderful addition as well. Overall, just being on this property was extremely relaxing, and we had a phenomenal time.
This place is a hidden gem close to Little River and about a fifteen minute drive from Fort Bragg. The inn offers great views of the Pacific and has its own little farm and chicken coop and Llamas!!. We loved the weekend stay at the Inn and would definitely recommend this place for families and friends longing for a serene getaway.
We treated ourselves with a mid-week get-away at the Glendeven Inn and once again it exceeded our expectations. Beginning with our arrival, Scott was there to welcome us us and set in motion a restful and much needed break from our daily lives. Everything is so thoughtfully provided by the innkeepers John and Mike. We especially enjoyed watching the whereabouts of the llamas, wood burning fires, wine and cheese in the wine bar(n), and the amazing breakfast basket that was hand carried to our room each morning. Just taking time to slow down at this geographical gem was a much appreciated mini-vacation. We feel rejuvenated and ready to jump back into our hectic schedules knowing we are already planning our next visit to this amazing Inn in June. Gratitude to all the staff for their thoughtful and attentive care of us during our visit.
My boyfriend and I stayed in the new lodge building, which apparently was a neighboring inn before it was acquired by Glendeven and refurnished. Our room, #202, was a large corner room upstairs with pleasant views over the llama pasture and chicken coop on one side, and over the parking lot on the other. Trees were all around. The queen bed was really comfortable with good linens, and the room furnishings were new and modern. The bathroom was small, with a standard hotel tub/shower combo with a shower curtain. Everything was spotlessly clean.
Some small negatives: The TV in the room was positioned so it wasn't very watchable from either the sitting area or the bed. We aren't TV people so it wasn't a big deal to us, but it might be important to those who are considering this room over others at the inn because it includes a TV. Also, the common areas of the lodge felt a little sparse and unwelcoming to us, perhaps because the refurbishing is still underway and only a couple of the rooms are open for booking. It felt a little like an empty college dormitory. The coffee station downstairs was minimal, with no sherry or other "goodies" that have been described in the other buildings, at least none that we saw. There were no games, reading materials, etc. The building's outdoor deck and soaking tubs were not available for use. Again, all of this may be due to the fact that the new building is not fully finished yet.
We loved the chickens and llamas on property, and the hiking trails that were easily accessible. Having breakfast delivered to your door is a really nice feature of the inn as well, and the staff we encountered were friendly and service-oriented. We would like to return to Glendeven and try one of the other rooms next time. The ones with the private decks looked awesome.
