perfect year after year

i've been spending a summer week or 2 on nantucket for many years starting in the early '80s. initially, i rented a few different homes around the island with friends, and one summer stayed at a very nice B&B in town. but recently i've been staying at the white elephant; this past summer was my sixth visit.

"wow!" is the best way to sum things up. the view of the harbor from the 2nd floor 'veranda' rooms is quintessential nantucket. the hotel grounds are gorgeous. the staff go well above & beyond to keep guests happy. superb breakfasts under the outdoor awning in morning sunlight. this last trip, we had late lunch a couple of times at a table on the grass with friends.... yippy-fantastic! our room was perfect; bed, furnishings, AC (needed only occasionally), and shower completely beyond reproach. an easy stroll to town, super convenient private parking for longer excursions in the car. you really don't want to skip the ride up the harbor on the hotel's classy boat for lunch at the wauwinet!.... but reserve this at least a month ahead of time because -- no surprise -- they're fully booked well in advance. (we had such a swell time at the lunch this past summer that we didn't want to leave -- skipped the return boat ride & grabbed a taxi back to town.) just plopping down on one of the many lawn loungers, steps from the harbor... it truly doesn't get any better. sunday buffet brunch was way over the top! port and cheese mid-afternoon every day.... the W.E simply doesn't miss a beat!

pricey.... and absolutely worth every penny for us.

i can't imagine how there could be a nicer place for a couple to stay on the island. to the management and staff at the W.E.... please don't ever change!

Excellent Hotel

The White Elephant is a very fine hotel. It is located virtually adjacent to the Ferry Pier and is in walking distance to all of the town sites and restaurants. The rooms are commodious and the restaurant quite good. I have stayed there several times and the stays have always been excellent

A bit pricey, but the service was impeccable. All the staff, from the front desk to the shuttle driver, were incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was spacious, with a sofa, a gas fireplace, a desk, 2 dressers, a cabinet, a porch (complete with rocking chairs), a newly renovated bathroom, and lots of space to walk around and relax. The king-size bed was heavenly comfortable. Not something we can afford every time, but couldn't have wished for more! The free parking was great since we were traveling about the Island by car. Van service to downtown to coincide with the 2 ferry services, plus courtesy drop-offs at other times as well (although it's only a 10-15 minute walk to town center).

Anniversary/Business Trip to Nantucket

We decided on Nantucket to celebrate our wedding anniversary. After careful research, we selected The White Elephant for our getaway.

When we arrived the young lady at the desk greeted us with a smile, welcomed us and checked us in. She shared that if there was anything that we needed, just ask and we would be taken care of. We received our room keys and were directed to our room. When we arrived in our room, we were pleasantly surprised to see a mini cake with berries acknowledging our Anniversary along with a hand written note (see pic).

Our room was exactly what we expected to include a fireplace and full harbor view. The bed was decorated with the cutest signature White Elephant pillow and there was a box of chocolates from a local shop. It was quite cozy!
The grounds were immaculate and the view spectacular.

The hotel is within walking distance of shops and restaurants, which is great. In addition, they provided bikes for exercise and to ride to the beach. The wedding packages are great as well.

The staff was accommodating but as the week progressed there were a couple of minor issues that we experienced, once brought to the attention of the General Manager (Bettina), was handled very deliberately with care and professionalism. Bettina was fabulous and handled our concerns with ease. All in all, she delivered a “wonderful treat “ that we both were extremely happy with and it was a fabulous experience to end our stay!

Because of you, Bettina, we will be back and we can honestly say that we had an Unforgettable Nantucket Experience!
