Overview

The Review

At the top of Nantucket’s historic Step Lane, the gingerbread-trimmed Veranda House is perched on one of the highest points on the island, its three wraparound porches affording unparalleled views of the famous sailboat-filled harbor. Hop off the ferry at Straight Wharf and don’t bother with a taxi; this seemingly tucked-away charmer is an easy walk.

Although Veranda House has the water views and breezy seaside ambience that Nantucket is famous for, not to mention lush gardens filled with hydrangea bushes, expansive terraces with wicker seats and a manicured lawn dotted with white Adirondack chairs perfect for cocktail hour. But the décor is something of a surprise: It’s thoroughly modern, with bleach-white walls and zebra print divans.{“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/967/prop-14118-1312403623-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”Cocktails are best enjoyed on the terrace or in one of the white Adirondack chairs on the lawn.”}

The result is an intriguing mash-up of modern sophistication and Old New England spirit. All 18 sun-drenched guestrooms have sophisticated decor and simple, clean lines. Whitewashed walls, crisp white Frette linens and Simon Pearce lamps provide the perfect canvas for one-of-a-kind, colorful accents like a tangerine antique Chinese trunk serving as a coffee table or a vibrant red armchair. The bathrooms are no less appealing; many are outfitted with rain showers, antique soaking tubs and deep farmer sinks.

With its inn-like warmth (gourmet breakfasts, champagne and cookies every afternoon on the veranda), it’ll be tempting to stay on the property. But the inn is an ideal jumping-off point to explore the beautiful 48-square-mile island, whether with a jaunt into the boutique-filled town or the easy 15-minute walk to famed Jetties Beach and the Brant Point Lighthouse.

We've been to Nantucket 3 times and stayed at The Veranda House every time. The only problem we had was that our most recent visit was for only 2 nights! I highly recommend this property. The staff is very attentive and ensures every detail receives proper attention. Book this place!

Excellent stay

My husband I stayed here last week for two nights. I echo other reviewers comments. The management, Carl & Nicole, were extremely helpful. The breakfast was excellent and the wine & cookies a nice touch. The location is fantastic. Highly recommend.

AMAZING Experience & Service

My husband and I stayed here for the weekend (2 nights) and we absolutely loved it!! Carl was accommodating in every way possible, from booking to checkout and everything in between. He was so nice and a pleasure to talk to. The overall staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful as well.

The 3 course complimentary breakfast was fantastic including the presentation, the complimentary nightly wine tasting was a nice touch in addition to the many other amentities provided. The decor was also very modern and inviting, yet still had plenty of Nantucket character. You can’t beat the location and it’s only a few steps to downtown.

We caught the late ferry out and they kindly stored our bags for us (this was SO HELPFUL). We will definitely be back again soon. Highly reccomended!!

We loved our stay! This was a last minute trip to the island and we’re so happy we lucked out on rooms at the Veranda House. The manager and staff were so welcoming and friendly. The complimentary breakfast well exceeded expectations. The lobby and rooms are quaint with a little zing of fun decor. The location can’t be beat...!! Highly recommend it!!!

Wonderful, Charming Hotel

We can’t imagine a more welcoming hotel than the Veranda House. We arrived very early - 10:30 AM - and were told that our room would be ready in 15 minutes or so and would we like some breakfast while we waited! Ideally located, the Veranda House is on a quiet street, yet only a 5 minute walk from the action. This is not a Marriott but rather a charming, quaint boutique hotel in a beautiful garden setting. The staff was outstanding in terms of service and helpfulness. The hotel also served afternoon wine (and cookies), which allowed us to chat with other guests. And the breakfast in terms of elegance, setting and food can’t be beat (remember we had two of them). We loved our stay at the Veranda House and will definitely return.
