How to Get There
Inn keepers, Joan and Steve, were wonderful hosts to myself and friends attending our 50th Northfield Mt Hermon reunion. Comfortable rooms and great breakfast. Highly recommended for pleasure or business travel.
My first time trip to New England was initiated by a business situation that required me to be in Northfield, MA for an unspecified period of time. Not knowing what I was going to encounter and for how long, and additional business in Pennsylvania, I drove cross country from my office in Costa Mesa, CA to Northfield. While I travel a great deal, flying provides no sense of the "Country" nor the variety of it's beauty. The farther Northeast my progress took me the more I was impressed by the increasing beauty of this magnificent land in which we live. My six day excursion ended on Saturday the 6th of May. Accommodations had been prearranged and when I arrived in Northfield at the Centennial House, I was immediately taken with the overall beauty and tranquility of the area and the peaceful tranquility that I felt.Meeting the owners Joan and Steve immediately put me at ease and I knew I had arrived at a special place. The accommodations are spot on period correct with rooms that embrace the New England experience and yet provide the required comfort and cleanliness that is so necessary for today's traveler.
Then there is the included "Continental Breakfast" freshly prepared by Joan every morning. The fresh strawberry/rhubarb tort, the fresh pear tort, the fresh berries, the backed eggs, the maple cured bacon and the coffee/tea options, each contributing to the magnificence of the "CB", makes starting the rest of your day problematic.
Delightful place, cared for by delightful informed, accommodating, gracious and generous purveyors makes the Centennial House a must include experience choice for your New England excursion. John K
Charming inn and innkeepers.!!!Joan's breakfast alone would be a reason to stay! Thanks to both Joan and Steve. Our room was very comfortable and the new a "dream"!
We will certainly return from Rio de Janeiro!
Our visit to Northfield, MA, was prompted by a desire to mark the resting place of my grandparents' ashes. My grandmother grew up in Northfield, a lovely village. She directed that her ashes and those of my grandfather be shipped to Northfield and buried near her mother's grave. The quest to find my namesake's grave and her headstone was realized two years ago. This trip was to determine where a marker could be placed and meet with a city representative. Our stay at the Centennial House B&B was the perfect place to headquarter.
The history of the inn is revealed in the lovely rooms and furnishings. The bed was so comfortable! Our room had a nice view of the front garden, which I explored and photographed. The bathroom was modernized just enough for ease of use without interfering with the historicity of the inn.
Breakfast was delightful! Beautifully presented and more than a person can eat in a sitting, it was freshly made and baked. Our host and hostess are a lovely couple, helpful and discreet. Fortunately for me, they were interested in my quest.
Northfield's Center Cemetery, where my ancestors are buried, is the oldest cemetery in Northfield. Our friend and historian, Joel, joined us for breakfast and the cemetery visit.
When a marker for my grandparents' is ready for installation, we will certainly return to Centennial House for another visit!
We were celebrating my birthday and our anniversary so we scheduled a mini golf trip. The Centennial House was recommended to us. We were warmly greeted at the lovely 19th century home and enjoyed the lovely Strawberry Bank room. Our breakfast was a wonderful combination of fresh, home baked rhubarb scones, delicious banana bread French toast made with Grand Marnier, bacon and maple syrup. It was a delightful stay and we look forward to returning with our family for them to enjoy this lovely B&B with us.
