Confused about what they are trying to offer... just okay
Reviewed 2 days ago

I hesitated about a 2 star rating for this stay, but ended up thinking that was unfair. The rate was fine - we booked the Presidential Suite because it was a good deal on the weekend. We arrived about 11pm and the valet was helpful. This is where the strangeness started. The check in person said "congratulations good news, we've upgraded you to the presidential suite". I said to her - um, that's what we booked and she just fell silent. Okay.. The public area is done in the generic modern, bright lights and black and white photograph look that seems to be everywhere from Holiday Inn to Hyatt to various airports and I thought it looked cheap and already dated. The next surprise - our room was dated and looked as if it hadn't been touched since the 1980s. I felt like I was in an episode of Dallas. Despite being a suite for 6 there was only bedding for 2 so two calls and 20 minutes later we were okay. We woke in the morning to a dripping leak in the kitchen. Called downstairs to let them know and nobody picked up for TWENTY MINUTES. In the end we just hung up and told them when we got downstairs. Now to breakfast. Possibly the worst buffet I've seen in a hotel in years - generic, cheap looking fruit, cereal, baked goods. Needed to ask twice for coffee. It was just awful. You get a better selection at the HamptonInn After this we packed up and I was left scratching my head about what the hotel was offering and why it seemed to lack consistent attention to detail and quality.

Sarcastic and unpleasant staff

I am an Honors member, and booked directly from your website. There was a difference in the amount that I saw while booking, and the amount that was mailed to me in the confirmation email. I explained this to the staff - they acknowledged that this situation occurs, and got the accounts folks to help. The accounts people who spoke with me were Naomi Miao and Kevin Siu. They were sarcastic and unpleasant. Infact, the room was available to book at a much lower rate but they did not offer to make any compromise. We also wrote to Joe Barbiego, and have not received any response from him. We are certainly not booking any Sheraton properties going forward!!

Good hotel in Cambridge

Only stayed for one night and the hotel met most of our needs. The decor of the room seemed fairly new and everything was neat and clean. While there was a wedding at the hotel with the party a few floors below us, we weren't bothered by it as the music or noise didn't make its way up to our room. There was, however, a connecting door to the room next door and we could hear everything from that room even when the guests were just talking regularly. Thankfully, they seemed to be out during most of our stay, so it didn't bother us, but could have been worse if you had a loud group staying next door.
Unfortunately, our shower didn't work properly on the morning of our check-out and we alerted the staff about this, but didn't have time to wait for someone to come and try and fix it. These things happen, so won't hold that against the hotel in this rating, but it was a little frustrating in the moment - if we'd had more time, I'm sure the staff would have sorted it out.
The hotel is just off the main street, so there's not a lot of traffic and you can easily walk to loads of restaurants in the neighborhood or walk past MIT and over the bridge to the area around Newbury Street.

Would consider again

Stayed at the Le Meridian Cambridge for several days. Like many hotels it has a modern contemporary style and nice amenities (the garden terrace is especially nice during the warmer months), but their top notch customer service sets this place apart from other hotels. Two examples: 1) Arrived at the hotel around 9:30am to drop off my bags so I wouldn’t have to lug them around town even though check in wasn’t until late afternoon. Not only was the room ready, but they also provided me with a free breakfast for that morning as well (Note: I had signed up for the bed & breakfast combo for the rest of trip.) 2) Patrick and the rest of the breakfast crew were excellent – remembering my order each morning without any prompting, always willing to help, etc., (Tip: In addition to the continental breakfast laid out, the cook is also willing to prepare omelets, pancakes, French toast, etc., )
Hotel is about a 5 minute walk from a “T” Red Line metro station. Being in Cambridge, aside from MIT & Harvard University, you are further afield from the key tourist attractions in the city (typically, a 15 minute metro ride), but the upside is experiencing more of the local culture and - for all those Instagrammers - there are some cool building mural paintings which make great background shots.
Biggest downside to the experience is my same complaint with many newer hotels – you can hear (almost) everything. I would walk down the hallway and could hear entire conversations while walking by a door. Thus, be sure to bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
Overall, good stay and will consider the Le Meridian brand again in the future.

Great for business travelers

Nice clean hotel. Big comfortable rooms, all amenities you need. Good food in restaurant and friendly staff. No lunch service or afternoon coffees, a bit disappointing. Overall, Excellent value and great location within minutes of Kendall square and all the local attractions.
