How to Get There
Colonnade hotel is a a friendly hotel about a mile from Boston Common and near Copley Square. Rooms are well fitted out with a small fridge, air-conditioning and comfortable beds. Hotel has a small pool area on the roof which can get very busy. Food and drinks are expensive but then again on par with other establishments in Boston.
Stayed in the “Luxury King Suite” while attending a conference last October. At check in, had to unload our luggage in the pouring rain by ourselves—not a bellhop in site. After check in, asked for sheets and a pillow for the pullout bed, and no one could locate any. And when we checked out, no one to help with luggage (again). Also never saw anyone staffing the concierge desk the entire 5 days I was there.
The hotel itself is old, and not in a charming “Grand Hotel” way, but more like a tired 1970s-era Holiday Inn, badly in need of a refresh. Hotel is also not particularly clean, like you would see at a truly upscale hotel such as the Ritz or the Four Seasons.
As a hotel snob it is not difficult to disappoint me, but the Colonnade (at $1000/night) was absolutely disappointing—probably the most disappointed I have ever been with a hotel experience. I had honestly looked forward to staying here, but I don’t think they’ve figured out what people want/pay for in a luxury hotel experience. You can certainly do better in terms of service and value at an Embassy or Homewood Suites at $250/night; stay there instead.
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful one night stay at the Colonnade Hotel recently. The staff members were incredibly hospitable throughout our stay and the room was very comfortable. The highlight of our stay was spending most of the day relaxing in the sun at the rooftop pool, which is such a unique aspect of the property. We enjoyed a great lunch with a few cocktails on the roof and had a wonderful time overall.
I highly recommend this property for anyone who wants to enjoy some time in Boston at a unique property with "5-star" service. If the weather is nice spending time at the pool is a must as well!
The room was lovely, spacious, quiet and clean with lots of good lighting. Self-parking was convenient and easy. They were very generous with early check-in and leaving my car after check-out while we went off on one final tourist excursion. Lunch at Roof Top Pool was great but crowded. But the best part of our stay was the customer service. Really the best any place I have stayed. They go out of their way to be helpful, friendly and accommodating. Staying in Boston is always expensive (and so is The Colonnade), but here you really get some value for that money!
I would just like to say that this is the best service I have ever had at a hotel. From the first interaction checking in, the receptionist was extremely nice and accommodating. When I later called the front desk to ask for a late check out, again, I was amazed by the friendliness. It just goes to show that all it takes is friendliness to create a great service environment. Whatever you're doing, keep it up!
