Need to lower my expectation next time

Maybe I was spoiled by other Sheraton hotels and I felt a little bit disappointment at this hotel. However, I think 4 of 5 stars needs to be given.

Front desk was professional and the check in process was smooth. As an elite member, I got what I entitled. It was surprised that they charged parking fees and don't waive for the top elite members.

Room was OK, standard and spacious. It looks like there was no suites in this hotel

There was a mini lounge at 5th floor which sharing the space with the elevator...

Wonderful hotel, staff and beautiful area

We stayed here two nights and loved this hotel. First of all, as soon as we walked into the beautiful lobby we were greeted by several welcoming staff members. Check in was a breeze and one staff member even made sure to tell us of the beer and food tasting that was scheduled for the evening. The room was very clean and comfortable. We loved the decor. The bathroom was great- plenty of room and clean and updated While it seemed like they had a lot of guests based on the number of cars in the parking lot and people in the restaurant, it was a very quiet hotel. We had no noise issues at all. The hotel is a long walk or short drive to the Shady Grove Metro station which we used to get into DC for a day of sightseeing. In addition to the metro, there are several restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance - about a mile. The surrounding area is residential and beautiful with wide clean sidewalks and beautiful views. We did not realize how pedestrian and bike friendly the area would be so we did not have our bikes but it would have been a perfect place to bike. There are bikes you can rent on the sidewalks too. We did not have an opportunity to eat in the restaurant for anything other than breakfast but they did have a big crowd for happy hour and the food sample we had were delicious. The staff at this hotel make it a 5 star rating. There were always people around who were smiling and friendly. They greeted us every time we came back into the hotel saying “welcome back”. I can not say enough great things about how well run this hotel is. Also the hotel is close to the Rio Washingtonian Mall which was a great place to spend an afternoon. We also enjoyed that it was such a great area to take a walk and get some exercise. We walked both at night and during the day. It felt like a very safe area. We can’t wait to go back !

Lowering my rating

My wife and I have stayed here 2 or 3 times a year, usually for more than 1 night, for the past 6 or 8 years. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean but showing their age and the restaurant is pretty good but used to be better. Even with the slips, however, we’d probably continue to stay here but...that’s not going to happen. The reason: a ridiculous, and exorbitant, pet fee.

In the years we’ve been guests staying with a pet went from costing nothing, to $75 dollars and now it’s $100. That’s about half the cost of a room night. That’s highway robbery. A fee of that amount, or even higher, is reasonable if it’s refundable if no special cleaning is necessary following checkout. But when no extra cleaning (cost) is necessary 100 bucks is just gravy for a hotel and I’m not pouring any more gravy.
