How to Get There
We stayed on a little getaway, first of all when we arrived I asked the manager to put the stay on my credit card as my wife had put a deposit down to hold the room and I wanted to use my card to use the points! The manager told me she had already charged the entire amount for a three day stay on my wife’s credit card almost 2 weeks prior to our arrival almost $2000 canadian dollars long before we even arrived!! I politely asked her to reverse it and put it on my card she made a big deal out of saying she sis not know how to do it but would look into it!! I inquired 3 more times during my stay and she said should would email me when it was done! She emailed us to say it was done but it never happened I had to go through a huge hassle with visa to change this when I got home!! Our room was tiny with a microscopic bathroom with no counter space had to ask for a hair dryer and the TV did not work managers reply was no big deal I have not watched TV in Years!! The manager prepares breakfast somewhere and brings it in just light munchies with a coffee bar fulll of cold coffee!! They charge huge prices for not a lot of service! The managers attitude was not hospitable at all !! I paid less money to stay at Ruebens at the Palace in London England and was made much more welcome with no rude behaviour and no sarcastic remarks from the manager the rest of the staff was very nice!! There is a much nicer hotel with many more amenities a block closer to the water for one third the price!! I would never recommend this place. We had to take turns getting ready to go out because the bathroom is so small and my wife was waiting for me in the courtyard and the manager told her to “forget your husband go shake that booty at the beach without him”. Do not even think about staying here!!
We had a tremendously satisfying experience staying at The Sydney last week. Allison and Haley were so helpful and warm in welcoming us and made our entire stay truly enjoyable. Being their guests from South East Asia, we're very pleased with the hotel's strategic location and impressed with the quality of the rooms. Clean, comfortable, and modern-feel. We will definitely come back to The Sydney. Two thumbs up!!
Allison runs this little gem with the friendly engagement of a B&B but the luxury of a boutique hotel. From the lovely breakfast and warm cookies to recommendations throughout Edgartown you will have a great time - and the beds are super cozy so you’ll be well rested!
We were there off-season, so it was quiet. The hotel is in charming Edgartown, beautifully decorated, with great public spaces indoor and out on a small scale. The bed was very comfortable (great linens) and the breakfast was outstanding. There were much-appreciated personal touches. Highly recommended.
I stayed at The Sydney during the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival in August 2018. I stayed the weekend between August 10-12, 2018. The hotel is located in Edgartown conveniently close to many shops and restaurants.
The room was very spacious and had new showers and appliances. I was greeted with a warm chocolate chip cookie and a welcome note. The television was equipped with NetFlix. I was able to watch all of my shows. The privacy blinds were a nice touch to keep out the sunlight. There was ample parking if you drive. There's also nice seating areas for conversations with other guests or to just enjoy the ambiance.
Breakfast was so wonderful! I'll post a picture of the spread. The food was fresh. My favorite was the variety of teas and the overnight oats with fruit. There was fresh fruit, eggs, oatmeal, yogurt and homemade blueberry and chocolate chip scones. The coffee was so fresh and there was a selection of milk and creamers.
Transportation: Departing from the airport their were taxis right outside that drove us to Edgartown in groups. The ride seemed to be no longer than 15-20 mins. I was dropped off on the corner and it was an easy walk to the front door. When I left I caught a local taxi called by the front desk. I easily used Lyft/Uber to get around the Island and there were local buses that were inexpensive and convenient.
Arrival: I believe the entrance and the facilities where I stayed were new. I see in previous reviews there wasn't a front desk. The arrival instructions (need to be updated) still had the old location and the lock box details. I discovered there's an entrance with a Front Desk agent and another entrance where the lock box is located. Both locations are right next door to each other. Once I found the right entrance, I checked in with the front desk agent. She was friendly and available for questions throughout my stay. I also met the Manager of the property who was also friendly and welcoming.
Overall stay: This hotel was very peaceful. It's confidently located to all the local shops and great restaurants. I was able to easily walk to the lighthouse. The quality of the rooms, the breakfast and the hospitality was far worth the cost of the stay. I loved that I could book just the weekend. My full room deposit was due upfront but that seems standard for Martha's Vineyard properties. Overall it was a delightful stay. I'd book this hotel again and suggest it to others. My favorite part was the breakfast!
