- Tranquil atmosphere amidst the bustle of the city and its souks
Just a few steps from Marrakech’s mesmerising Jemaa el-Fnaa square, yet with a tranquil and laid-back feel, Riad Kumeia makes it easy for you to escape the city’s bustle for the night. Housed in a traditional building, its individually-designed guest rooms are set off a cool and cosy courtyard, where you can float in an enticing heated pool and gaze at the sky above. Public areas, including a welcoming dining area and comfy cushion-strewn lounge, are packed with quirky artworks and furnishings that add an eclectic, arty touch.
The riad’s high point has to be the expansive rooftop terrace, which overlooks the lush gardens of legendary hotel La Mamounia. Up here you can pop on a personalised straw boater, settle down with a good book and sunbathe in peace after an action-packed day roaming the souks. As the sun sets, order a cool drink and watch the myriad stars come out – you can start the day in style here, too, as you enjoy an excellent breakfast. Add to this the in-house massages and facials (both relaxing or invigorating) and a warm and helpful staff, and you have all the ingredients for a memorable stay.
Each of the rooms has a simple, relaxing feel and is individually decorated with original artwork – set off by subtle lighting. Artisanal bedsteads provide a good night’s sleep while en-suite bathrooms are well equipped.
A delicious breakfast can be enjoyed on the roof terrace or down in the dining room. For other meals previous guests have singled out the traditional tagine for praise, so make sure you place your order before you set out for the day.
Despite its tranquil feel, Riad Kumeia is just around the corner from the bustling action of Jemaa el-Fnaa square, packed with street vendors, food stalls, musicians and performers. Off the square lies the maze of the Medina, with its souks selling carpets, spices, woodworks, curios and more. You’re no more than 15 minutes from Koutoubia Mosque, Moulay El Yazid Mosque and Saadian Tombs.
How to Get There
This is a very small riad - maybe 5 rooms in total. The lady that takes care of it was always very cordial, prepared us a very nice breakfast and was very helpful. It is a very calm place but still close from the medina and other sightseeing places (walking distance to the medina). I would recommend it if you are looking to chill out
If you want to stay in a quiet, intimate place in Marrakech, but still very accessible by foot from the medina and other touristic spots, then this riad is perfect for you. It has only around 5 rooms and the lady that takes care of it was very cordial and prepared us a very nice breakfast in the riad's terrace.
We had a very pleasant stay at Riad Kumeia! From the moment we arrived, we were served a home made tea and sweets in the living room. Our room was very nice and need with everything needed for a good stay. Everyday, regardless on what time we were heading out, we were served and lovely and home made breakfast and we were amazed about the flexibility of the staff. Florence was very helpful with table reservations, recommendations and taxi pickups every time we needed it. If we go back on another trip to Marrakech, we would be happy to stay here again!
Nice room, a very nice roof terrace, One has to walk very far to get to the Riad and without local help, we would have been lost! There was plenty of secure parking space outside the Medina! Marrakesh was busy as usual!
We were there for three nights, the riad is super quiet and perfect to relax. It is outside the souk which is a good option if you want to avoid the rush. The terrace has views to Mamunia gardens, the breakfast is lovely. The owner has paid a lot of attention to decor and she is super helpful and warm.
